But the Yankees have Jazz Chisholm Jr., a two-time All-Star, at the position.At first base, Ben Rice is playing at an MVP caliber pace in the absence of Judge, Cody Bellinger and Giancarlo Stanton, while Paul Goldschmidt has split time with him and played well doing so after re-signing with the team this offseason.Garcia, a left-handed hitter, could run in a rotation between designated hitter, first base and second base, if needed, to allow him to get regular at-bats in Aaron Boone’s lineup.There’s also the option that Garcia can return to second base, while Chisholm moves to third base, which he played at times during his tenure with the Yankees. But Garcia wasn’t a good defensive second baseman, which led to him moving to first base.It’s also worth noting that Chisholm will be a free agent after the 2026 season, which could lead the way to Garcia returning to second base full-time next season.For his Nationals career, Garcia has slashed .268/.301/.431 with 81 homers and 345 RBI across 708 games.Meanwhile, the Nationals are looking to bolster their pitching ranks, as they’ve struggled to win games despite having the most runs scored in MLB this season.
