This Day in Gaming 🎂

In retro news, I’m celebrating the 17th bday of God of War: Chains of Olympus, a PSP powerhouse spin-off. In this first game prequel (that occurs after God of War: Ascension), Kratos is still the Winston Wolf dogsbody of that Greek Godsbody corporate. My overriding memory of it is an array of weird unlockable skins that turned old mate into a giant spud, a bekilted Braveheart berserker, or a French mime. Ooh la la!

Amazon Has a Rare Skytech Prebuilt Gaming PC with Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 GPU for $4,800

March 26, 2025 Ogghy Filed Under: ENTERTAINMENT, IGN

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card is still night impossible to find a standalone GPU, and your best bet is to get it pre-installed in a ready-made gaming computer. For a very limited time, you can place an order for a Skytech Prism 4 Gaming PC equipped with the coveted GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card for $4,799.99 shipped. That’s a pretty reasonable price considering the fact that this GPU by itself is currently selling for $3,500-$4000 on eBay.

Update: The Skytech Legacy RTX 5090 gaming PC with similar specs can also be ordered.

Skytech RTX 5090 Prebuilt Gaming PC for $4800

The Skytech Prism 4 gaming PC complements the phenomenal GPU with some great specs, including an AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D processor, 32GB of DDR5-6000MHz RAM, and a 2TB M.2 SSD. The AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D was the reigning champ in terms of gaming performance before the new 9800X3D was released earlier this year, and even then the performance difference is practically negligible when paired with a powerful GPU such as this. It also uses less power than the new 9800X3D. A robust all-in-one liquid cooling system with a massive 360mm radiator keeps temps frosty.

The RTX 5090 Is the Most Powerful Graphics Card Ever

The Nvidia 50-series GPUs were officially announced at CES 2025. Although this time around Nvidia has prioritized dding AI features and DLSS 4 technology to improve gameplay performance over the previous generation GPUs, the RTX 5090 has still emerged as the most powerful consumer GPU on the market even if you only factor hardware-based raster performance. This card boasts a 25%-30% uplift over the RTX 4090 and with 32GB of GDDR7 VRAM.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 FE Review by Jackie Thomas

“The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 has officially taken the performance crown from the RTX 4090, but with less force than previous generations. When it comes to traditional non-AI gaming performance, the RTX 5090 provides one of the smallest generational uplifts in recent memory. However, in games that support it, DLSS 4 really does deliver huge performance gains – you just have to make your peace with the fact that 75% of the frames are generated with AI.”

Deals For Today: Pokémon TCG – Surging Sparks Still In Stock and Cheap Power Banks

March 26, 2025 Ogghy Filed Under: ENTERTAINMENT, IGN

Amazon quietly restocked a bunch of Pokémon TCG bundles just days ago and stock is already running low. These Scarlet & Violet sets have been MIA for weeks, and now they’re back at retail prices. I already added a couple to my cart, Surging Sparks Booster Bundle, Shrouded Fable ETB and Paldean Fates Booster Bundle. Trainers need to snap these up quick. If they’re gone by the time you get there, that’s on you.

PlayStation Slim Disc Edition (Import) for $367.94

Looking for the least expensive PlayStation 5 console you can your hands on? As part of its US Anniversary Sale, AliExpress is offering an imported Sony PlayStation 5 Slim Disc Edition gaming console for $367.94 shipped after $80 off coupon code “MAYUE008“. This is a brand new and retail boxed product that is stocked in a US warehouse and qualifies for local delivery, which means it ships free and arrives within about 1-2 weeks.

Deals For Today: Pokémon TCG – Surging Sparks Still In Stock and Cheap Power Banks+

I also spotted a couple of power banks on sale from INIU and Anker. If you’ve ever watched your phone die mid-flight or mid-text, you know why I’m excited. These things are cheap, fast, and less annoying than asking strangers for a charger at an airport. Do with that information what you will. Oh, and while we’re on the topic of things I absolutely don’t need but definitely want: the Gamera: Attack of Legion action figure is up for preorder at the IGN Store for a cool $560, and Humble Bundle just dropped a massive Dragonlance book bundle that practically dares you to add 25+ fantasy novels to your backlog for the price of lunch.

Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet – Surging Sparks Booster Bundle

I want this bundle purely for the thrill of cracking six packs in a row and pretending I’m building a deck for Worlds. The Surging Sparks expansion is still new enough to feel fresh, and at $45.02, it’s a decent value compared to scalper prices that make you question your financial decisions. If you just want to dip into the latest set without going full collector mode, this is it.

Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet – Paldean Fates Booster Bundle

Shiny Pokémon are back, and apparently so is my addiction to them. The Paldean Fates bundle gives you six chances to pull something sparkly, and while $69.94 isn’t exactly pocket change, I think the potential dopamine hit is worth the gamble. It’s in stock, it ships fast, and I’ve made worse choices at 2 a.m. on eBay.

The World of Dragonlance Bundle

I’m not saying this is the nerdiest thing you can buy today, but it’s definitely on the leaderboard. Humble Bundle just dropped a massive Dragonlance collection; 25+ books for about the cost of lunch. If you’ve ever wanted to get lost in magical twin drama, cursed artifacts, or the politics of dwarves (because who hasn’t), this is your sign. Plus, part of your purchase supports Room to Read, so now your TBR pile can come with good karma.

Pokémon TCG: Scarlet and Violet Shrouded Fable Elite Trainer Box

In my opinion, this is the one to grab if you’re all-in on the set. Nine booster packs, a Pecharunt promo, themed sleeves, dice, and an actually-useful storage box? For $54.96? I’ve spent more on less at Taco Bell. Plus, it’s still Prime eligible, which means you don’t have to sell your soul for free shipping. Win-win.

Gamera – Attack of Legion – Action Figure

This is what happens when you give kaiju collectors exactly what they want: a 9.5-inch figure of LEGION from Gamera 2, complete with flying parts, glowing bits, and articulation that would make Spider-Man jealous. Sure, it’s $560, but I’ve seen statues half as cool go for double that. If you’re the kind of person who rearranges shelf space for something before buying it, I totally get it.

INIU Portable Charger, 22.5W 20000mAh

This thing charges your phone like it’s got something to prove. At $26.98, it gives you a full week’s worth of backup power and a built-in flashlight just in case you drop your phone and your dignity under your car seat. I want it purely because it has an LED readout that makes me feel like I’m operating a mission control panel instead of just charging my AirPods.

Anker Power Bank (PowerCore 10K)

I think this is the best deal of the day, and not just because it’s $17.99. It’s slim, light, and can survive a drop better than my will to stay off social media. Anker knows what it’s doing, and this charger just works. No random overheating, no mystery ports, just plug it in and keep scrolling through whatever app is currently ruining your sleep schedule.

Hulu + Live TV Free Trial

Hulu + Live TV offers a three-day free trial that allows you to take the live TV streaming service for a spin. This is one of the overall best streaming free trials because it gets you a bundle of services. It is quite a bit shorter than the standard Hulu free trial of 30 days, but it’s a great way to test it out over the weekend.

Samsung 49″ Odyssey QD-OLED (G93SC) Series Curved Gaming Monitor

With a 240Hz refresh rate, Dual QHD resolution, and 0.03ms response time, this 49-inch ultrawide OLED is built for high-performance PC gaming. The 1800R curve and HDR True Black 400 make it incredibly immersive, while FreeSync Premium Pro helps keep gameplay smooth and responsive.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite 10.4′ 64GB WiFi Android Tablet

This Android tablet comes with an S Pen included, a 10.4-inch display, and Samsung DeX for multitasking. At under $200, it’s a solid pick for casual gamers, students, or anyone who wants a lightweight, entertainment-ready tablet with productivity perks.

Humble Heroines Bundle 2025

Celebrate Women’s History Month with a killer bundle featuring female-led games. Titles include Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, Control: Ultimate Edition, Darksiders III, Beyond: Two Souls, and more. It’s a $160+ value for just $12, or pay extra to give more to publishers, Humble, and charity.

roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Robot Vacuum & Sonic Mop

With a whopping 10,000Pa of suction, self-refilling, self-emptying, sonic mopping, and even hot-air mop drying, the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra takes hands-off cleaning to the next level. It’s packed with AI features and even supports pet tracking and video calls.

Amazon Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition (32 GB)

Amazon’s newest Kindle adds color to the mix with a 7″ Colorsoft display. It still lasts up to 8 weeks on a single charge and now supports wireless charging and full-color highlights. It’s ideal for reading graphic novels, cookbooks, or anything where visuals matter.

Beats Studio Pro – Wireless Bluetooth Noise Cancelling Headphones

Enjoy spatial audio, active noise canceling, and up to 40 hours of battery life. These over-ear headphones are compatible with both iOS and Android, and support lossless audio over USB-C. A strong option for commuters, creators, and music lovers.

Lenovo Legion Pro 7i 16″ RTX 4080 Gaming Laptop for $2513

This Lenovo Legion Pro 7i gaming laptop drops to $2,513 at AliExpress after $100 off coupon code “IFPRZAZ” is applied. The Legion Pro 7 is Lenovo’s top-of-the-line gaming laptop and we rarely see discounts for this model. This particular configuration features a powerful Intel Core i9-14900HX CPU and RTX 4080 GPU for comfortable high-fps gaming on the 16″ display’s native 2560×1600 resolution.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth – Exclusive Amazon Edition

$32.99 for this masterpiece? I genuinely laughed. I paid full price, and I don’t even get the exclusive Cloud and Sephiroth controller skin. If you’ve ever wanted to explore Midgar’s post-industrial wastelands with emotionally repressed sword boys with a price lower than Black Friday’s, here you go.

Sony WH-1000XM5

I think these might actually cancel the noise in my soul. The sound is incredible, the fit is dreamy, and the battery life is better than my phone’s. Honestly, $249.99 for peace and quiet? Cheaper than therapy.

Smart LED Display Case Smarter Kit (4 Pack)

If you’ve ever looked at your shelf of figures, sneakers, or LEGO builds and thought, “This could be more dramatic,” I highly recommend these cases. I want my collectibles to feel as important as they think they are.

Sony WH-CH520 Wireless Headphones Bluetooth On-Ear Headset with Microphone

At $38, these are the definition of “just throw them in the cart.” I use them for work, walks, and pretending I’m on a call to avoid conversations. Plus, 50 hours of battery life? That’s just showing off.

Kingdom hearts Integrum Masterpiece

$59.99 to cry over Disney characters and complicated lore? Yes, please. I think this collection should come with a warning and a box of tissues. It’s that much of a journey.

B100 Bluetooth Speaker

This speaker is tiny, but it’s loud enough to offend your upstairs neighbors and cute enough that they won’t stay mad. It survived my shower playlist and a weekend camping trip without flinching.

INZONE H3 Wired Gaming Headphones With Mic, PS5 Headphones

Crisp comms, no lag, and a mic that doesn’t make me sound like a robot underwater. I want to pretend I’m a competitive esports player, and this headset lets me live the fantasy.

Sony ULT Field 1 Waterproof Portable Bluetooth Speaker

This speaker is basically the action hero of the portable audio world. It’s waterproof, rustproof, and probably judge-proof. I tossed it in my bag, it bounced around all day, and still blasted bass like nothing happened.

Sony ULT WEAR Over-Ear Noise Cancelling Bluetooth Headphones with Alexa Built-in

Bass so strong it could cause an existential crisis. These are like strapping a subwoofer to your ears, but in a comfy, eco-friendly kind of way. I think I saw my dog flinch the first time I hit the ULT button.

Sony WH-1000XM4 Wireless Premium Noise Canceling Overhead Headphones

XM4s are the previous-gen MVPs. They’ve still got top-tier ANC and that dreamy comfort that makes you forget you’re wearing them. At $179.99, I’m thinking of buying a backup pair for future me.

Sony BRAVIA Theater U Wireless Wearable TV Speaker with Bluetooth

A wearable speaker sounds ridiculous… until you try it. I felt like a sci-fi character watching a movie with surround sound on my shoulders. Honestly, I want to wear this to Zoom calls just for the audio flex.

Sony BRAVIA Theater Bar 8

My living room sounds like a private screening room now. I think this soundbar made my couch comfier just by association. Movies, games and music are all better with this beast.

Sony SRS-XP700 X-Series Wireless Karaoke Party-Speaker

I didn’t need a party speaker, but I bought this anyway. Complete with lights, bass and karaoke ports, it’s basically a party in a box. I want to say I got it for the sound, but really, it’s the lights.

Sony 65-Inch Mini LED QLED 4K Ultra HD TV BRAVIA 7

This TV made me realize I’ve been watching in peasant resolution my whole life. Mini LED, PlayStation 5 optimization, and colors so vivid I nearly apologized to my last TV for talking trash about it.

Sony 85-Inch Class 4K Ultra HD BRAVIA 3 LED Smart TV

I want to live in this TV. It’s 85 inches of 4K glory, and somehow still cheaper than a vacation. Probably because you won’t need one after this, seeing as your living room becomes the destination.

Sony 65 Inch Mini LED QLED 4K Ultra HD TV BRAVIA 9 Smart Google TV

This one’s for the people who want it all: QLED, anti-reflection, studio-calibrated modes, and picture quality so good I paused a show just to stare at a lamp. I think my eyes are spoiled now.

The Most Surprising Avengers and Marvel Characters Not Announced for Doomsday

March 26, 2025 Ogghy Filed Under: ENTERTAINMENT, IGN

Despite five hours of streamed casting announcements, there are still several characters and actors fans are surprised won’t be in Avengers: Doomsday. (Read the full Avengers: Doomsday cast roster.)

Some we knew about – such as Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch and Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange – but the following omissions are notable given the cosmic cross-over nature of what’s shaping up to be an Avengers, X-Men and Fantastic Four cinematic extravaganza.

Missing Avengers

No Spider-Man (not that anyone can remember who Peter Parker is now, mind you), no Hulk, no Hawkeye, no Nick Fury, no Rhodey (the real one we found out about in Secret Invasion). Not even Pepper Potts or Happy Hogan to tag along for old times’ sake. And while Captain Carter was reportedly in the mix at one point, Hayley Atwell wasn’t among those announced today.

X-Men X-Ceptions

No Hugh Jackman/Wolverine, no Halle Berry/Storm, no Famke Janssen/Jean Grey, no Anna Paquin/Rogue, no Ryan Reynolds/Deadpool. Ditto Colossus, Iceman, or any of the First Class incarnations of the X-Men. Oh, and no New Mutants either (remember them???).

Asgard, Where Art Thou?

While Chris Hemsworth’s Thor was the first announced cast member of this particular Avengers lineup, none of his fellow Asgardians – whom he split from at the end of Thor: Love and Thunder – seem to be involved save for the Loki Variant. So no Valkyrie, Korg, Miek or Lady Sif. Maybe his adopted daughter Love will show up though? And we’ll see if Zeus or Hercules ever do catch up with Thor despite what was teased in the Love and Thunder post-credits scene.

Guardians of the Galaxy

Star-Lord’s return has been previously teased at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, so his inclusion in the Avengers ranks for Doomsday seemed likely. But alas neither Star-Lord nor any of the new Guardians lineup introduced in Vol. 3 – Rocket, Groot, Kraglin, Cosmo, Adam, Phyla, and Blurp – are part of this movie.

The Marvels

Captain Marvel’s importance in Endgame would have suggested that, as one of the most powerful Avengers, she would be in Doomsday. But with The Marvels tanking at the box office, none of those characters – Ms. Marvel, Spectrum, Binary, or even Nick Fury – were announced for Doomsday. This is all the more curious as we know Binary ended up in the X-Men universe with Kelsey Grammer’s Beast, who will be in the movie. In fact, there’s a noticeable lack of female cast members overall in Avengers: Doomsday …

Missing the Magic

While Benedict Cumberbatch did say his Doctor Strange will be in Secret Wars but not Doomsday, it’s weird that such a cosmic event wouldn’t see the MCU’s reigning Sorcerer Supreme, Wong, show up. (We can assume Doc Strange and Charlize Theron’s Clea are off galavanting on some other plane as the events of Doomsday play out.) No Scarlet Witch or Agatha Harkness either.

Disney Plus Minus

There’s a decided lack of Disney+ show characters in Avengers: Doomsday. So no Daredevil, Punisher, Vision, Sylvie, Moon Knight, Echo, She-Hulk, Werewolf by Night, Agent Mobius or the TVA.

Quantumania Fallout?

Given the dismal box office and critical results of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, it shouldn’t be too surprising that Marvel is putting those characters, with the exception of Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang, on the sidelines for this installment. So no Hank Pym or Janet Van Dyne. And Evangeline Lilly previously announced that she was stepping away from acting so that might be another key reason why Wasp is sitting this one out.

Eternals Are Not Forever

Not a one. Not even Harry Styles as Eros! This is probably not surprising since the film disappointed at the box office, but given the movie’s cliffhanger ending with Arishem and the fact that Captain America: Brave New World addressed the giant dead Celestial in the ocean, maybe we’ll see Sersi, Kingo, Sprite (or not since she was made human in the end), Phastos, Makkari, Druig, and Thena show up in Avengers: Secret Wars instead.

The Young Avengers

The MCU has been teasing a Young Avengers lineup for a few years now – Ms. Marvel, Kate Bishop, America Chavez, Skaar, Eli Bradley, possibly Iron Lad and T’Challa’s son – but not one of them is in Doomsday.

Blade Didn’t Make the Cut

This shouldn’t be surprising since they still haven’t shot the Blade movie with Mahershala Ali despite teasing him in Eternals. And while Channing Tatum’s Gambit (somehow) managed to survive to fight in Doomsday, Wesley Snipes’ Blade perished in Deadpool & Wolverine.

There are a gazillion characters in the MCU but the aforementioned were the ones whose absence from the ranks of Avengers: Doomsday we found most noteworthy. Sound off in the comments about which omissions surprised or bummed you out about the most.

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Graphics Card Is in Stock on Amazon (for Prime Members)

March 26, 2025 Ogghy Filed Under: ENTERTAINMENT, IGN

If you are planning a PC build and have been waiting patiently to get ahold of one of the new Nvidia Blackwell graphics cards, here’s an opportunity that’s as good as you’re going to get. Right now Amazon has the Gigabyte GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Gaming OC graphics card in stock for $979.99 shipped. Inventory is reserved for Amazon Prime members only.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti GPU in Stock on Amazon

Amazon Prime Members only

Although the MSRP for this card is $979.99, it’s actually about $100-$150 higher than what it should really be priced at. That’s because a reference GeForce RTX 5070 Ti card is supposed to sell for $750. Gigabyte’s WindForce triple fan cooling sometimes commands a premium (about $50), as well as the fact that this card is overclocked out of the box (maybe another extra $50). That comes to about $850, about $120 less than the current asking price.

The reality is that even third party manufacturers like Gigabyte, MSI, Asus (and pretty much everyone else) are also taking advantage of the high demand by marking prices up from the get-go. Unfortunately, you’d be hard pressed to find another RTX 5070 Ti GPU for this price or less. RTX 5070 Ti GPUs are generally selling for over $1,000 on eBay.

The RTX 5070 Ti GPU Has Excellent 4K Gaming Performance

Of all the Blackwell cards released thus far, the RTX 5070 Ti offers the best bang for your buck, especially when pitted against the previous generation GPUs. It performs neck-and-neck with the RTX 4080 Super and already marginalizes the RTX 5080, which is only about 10%-15% faster but costs 33% more. This GPU is capable of high framerates in nearly all games, even at 4K resolution with ray tracing enabled. Heck, even if you plan on using this card for AI, the RTX 5070 Ti might be the better value than the RTX 50870 since both are equipped with the same 16GB of GDDR7 VRAM.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti GPU Review by Jacqueline Thomas

“At $749, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti is the best 4K graphics card for most people, delivering much better value than either the RTX 5080 or 5090. Across my entire test suite, this GPU soared at 4K, coming within striking distance of much more expensive graphics cards, and that’s before taking multi frame generation into account, which will make the RTX 5070 Ti even better at hitting extremely high framerates, albeit with a hit to latency.”

The Avengers Connections Hidden in Marvel’s Doomsday Cast Tease

March 26, 2025 Ogghy Filed Under: ENTERTAINMENT, IGN

A lot has changed in the MCU since the events of Avengers: Endgame, including the fact that there isn’t actually an Avengers team anymore. New heroes have been rising up to fill the void left by Iron Man and Captain America, but it’s going to be a while before we get a proper Avengers movie again. Even Captain America: Brave New World stops short of reuniting Earth’s Mightiest heroes.

Only at the end of Phase 6, when Marvel delivers the one-two-punch of Avengers: Doomsday in 2026 and Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027, will we see Earth’s Mightiest Heroes reunited. Who will answer the call? Now we know, with Marvel revealing the full Doomsday cast on a livestream.

Who made the cut in Marvel’s newest Avengers lineup? More importantly, why are these characters being included? How does this roster build on the Multiverse Saga so far? Here’s the cast of characters you can expect to assemble in Phase 6.

The X-Men

Easily one of the biggest surprises in Marvel’s Doomsday cast list is the presence of multiple veterans of Fox’s X-Men universe, including Kelsey Grammer’s Beast, Patrick Stewart’s Professor X, Ian McKellen’s Magneto, Alan Cumming’s Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn’s Mystique, James Marsden’s Cyclops, and Channing Tatum’s Gambit. The only thing more shocking than this X-Men-heavy lineup is the fact that Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine wasn’t named. Logan, along with Famke Janssen’s Jean Grey and Halle Berry’s Storm, appear to be sitting this one out.

Obviously, this isn’t the same version of Xavier we saw in 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, as he didn’t make it out of that movie alive. It also seems like Marvel is making something out of that deleted Deadpool & Wolverine scene that revealed Gambit survived the final battle.

Whether any of these X-Men will actually become Avengers in the new movie is unclear, but characters like Beast do seem poised to play a key role in the fight to stop Incursions from destroying the multiverse. We’re likely seeing the X-Men of Earth-10005, the world teased in the post-credits scene of The Marvels, and one world where Xavier and his team are alive and fully active. The X-Men will be fighting to keep it that way. There’s even a possibility that Doomsday is secretly an Avengers vs. X-Men movie.

Thor (Chris Hemsworth)

With most of the original Avengers either dead or moving into the background in Phase 4, Thor may be the last hero carrying the torch for that era of the team. That’s reason enough to make him a member of the new team. Fortunately, Thor: Love and Thunder’s ending leaves Thor in a perfect position to pick up his hammers and fly to Earth’s defense. Maybe he’ll even bring his adopted daughter Love along for the ride.

We may see a whole lot of Thors in Avengers: Secret Wars. In the 2015 Secret Wars comic, God Emperor Doom assembles a team called the Thor Corps, all of whom serve as Doom’s peacekeepers and personal police force. Chris Hemsworth may be one Thor among many.

Loki (Tom Hiddleston)

Not only is Thor back in action, but so is his brother Loki. Tom Hiddleston will reprise his role, despite Loki being killed off in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War. That’s because the time-displaced version of Loki seen in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame has gone on to play a pivotal role in The Multiverse Saga. Loki joined the time cops known as The Time Variance Authority and clashed with multiple versions of Kang the Conqueror. Following the dramatic finale of the Loki TV series, Loki now sits on the throne at the center of the multiverse. He literally holds the strands of space and time in his hands, which makes him integral to the conflict as the mutliverse collapses around him.

Shang-Chi

Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi is finally returning to join the Avengers in Phase 6, which is welcome but unsurprising news. For one thing, we already saw him summoned by Wong at the end of 2021’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. For another, before it was reworked, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty was set to be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton. That has to mean that Marvel has big plans for Shang-Chi’s MCU future.

Shang-Chi is certainly an asset to Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, now that he controls the mystical Ten Rings in place of his father, Xu Wenwu (Tony Leung). The mid-credits scene in The Legend of the Ten Rings hints at a deeper mystery surrounding these artifacts, one that could very well come into play in Avengers: Doomsday.

Captain America

Is any Avengers roster really complete without a Captain America? Fortunately, even though Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers retired to finally have his dance with Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter in the past, Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson has now taken up the shield as the new Cap. 2021’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier showed Sam reluctantly accepting that burden, and 2025’s Captain America: Brave New World chronicles the next step in his superhero evolution.

Based on how Brave New World plays out, Sam will likely be instrumental when it comes to getting the gang back together. Harrison Ford’s President Ross pitches Sam on the idea of forming a new, government-sanctioned team of Avengers. And though it isn’t long before the two have a falling-out, Sam ends the movie finally ready to embrace his role as Avengers team leader.

Can Sam be the inspirational figurehead Steve was? That’s a question we suspect Doomsday and Secret Wars will answer. As much as he wants to be his own hero, Sam will continue to struggle to live up to Steve’s example.

The Falcon (Danny Ramirez)

Where Captain America goes, the Falcon usually isn’t far behind. Danny Ramirez will reprise his role as Sam Wilson’s partner Joaquin Torres. This is sure to be great news for Joaquin, who’s definitely a bit of a fanboy for the Avengers in general and Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man in particular. We imagine Sam is going to face some friction as he tries to assert his leadership over the Avengers, but he’ll never have to worry about The Falcon following his playbook.

Ant-Man (Paul Rudd)

Given that Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was the first MCU movie to feature Jonathan Majors’ Kang, we have to assume those heroes had an important part to play in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. The same will probably still hold true for Avengers: Doomsday, even if Kang himself is no longer the main threat.

The Quantum Realm is sure to remain a major plot point during the Multiverse Saga. It’s how the Avengers managed to reverse Thanos’ destruction, and it could be how Doom will bring a new level of destruction to the universe. Ant-Man got the chance to join the Avengers already, and now it’s time to up the ante. As for the Wasp, she was not announced as part of the Doomsday cast during Marvel’s livestream.

Black Panther (Letitia Wright) and M’Baku (Winston Duke)

It’s debatable whether Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther ever technically qualified as an Avenger during the Infinity Saga. Still, he lent vital aid to Captain America’s team after the events of Captain America: Civil War, and Wakanda was the site of a major battleground in Avengers: Infinity War. Wakanda has the technology and resources the Avengers need to stand a fighting chance against all-powerful villains like Thanos and Doom.

Given that, we can see why Black Panther would continue to play a part in the team going forward. The only difference is that now Letitia Wright’s Shuri is wearing the suit. Will Shuri give the new Avengers the support they need? And how does Winston Duke’s M’Baku fit in, now that he’s the new monarch of Wakanda?

How Many Avengers Is Too Many?

As this list shows, the ranks of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes could really swell by the time Avengers: Doomsday rolls around. The original MCU Avengers consisted of six heroes (Iron Man, Cap, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow and Hawkeye). Can the new movies really support a cast of 20 or more heroes?

It’s certainly happened before in the comics, with Jonathan Hickman’s Avengers run (a series that is clearly inspiring the MCU these days) expanding the roster considerably. It’s not uncommon for the Avengers to consist of a large pool of heroes, from which smaller groups are dispatched to deal with individual threats. The comics also often have multiple Avengers teams that co-exist with one another, such as the regular, New York-based Avengers and the West Coast Avengers. Maybe it’s time for the MCU to do the same.

Namor (Tenoch Huerta Mejía)

Few would have predicted that Tenoch Huerta Mejía would reprise his role as Namor for Doomsday. Marvel is definitely casting a wide net here. But if Wakanda is instrumental in the fight to save Earth from destruction, maybe it’s only fair that their new allies in Atlantis do the same.

Interestingly, Namor is a core member of the Illuminati in the comics, a shadowy group that plays a big part in the march toward the Secret Wars storyline. (We saw an alternate universe version of them in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.) Will Doomsday follow suit? And does Namor’s inclusion in the movie mean we’ll see some sexual tension between he and Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm? Probably.

The Thunderbolts

Marvel’s Thunderbolts* movie is introducing that particular super-team to the MCU, and it seems multiple members of the team will be returning for Doomsday. Marvel clearly isn’t above spoiling the outcome of that movie before it even releases.

Fans can expect to see Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, an ex-Black Widow now trying to find her purpose in the world after the death of her sister and the destruction of the Red Room. If the Thunderbolts thing doesn’t work out, maybe becoming a full-fledged Avenger will do the trick? Or will she lead the Thunderbolts in opposition to the Avengers?

Yelena’s father Red Guardian (David Harbour) is joining the fun. Alexei is a bit kooky ever since he spent a stint inside a Russian gulag, but he’s a handy guy to have in a fight.

Wyatt Russell’s U.S. Agent will also return. We saw John Walker try and fail to become the new Captain America in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Does he still have Avenging potential? Whatever happens, we expect more tension between John and Cap’s true successor, Sam Wilson.

Hannah John-Kamen’s Ghost is returning, as she continues her evolution from tragic villain to full-fledged defender of the world.

Finally, Lewis Pullman’s Bob Reynolds, aka The Sentry, will return for Doomsday (which apparently means he won’t be dying in Thunderbolts*). As ever, this massively powerful but deeply troubled hero could either be the Avengers’ greatest weapon or their biggest nightmare. Probably both.

The Fantastic Four

No sooner will 2025’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps introduce a new version of Marvel’s First Family than they’ll return for Doomsday. Pedro Pascal’s Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby’s Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn’s Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s The Thing are all returning. Here, again, we don’t know that the FF will be officially deputized as Avengers, but they’ll have a big part to play in defending the multiverse from collapse and battling Doctor Doom. Doom is, after all, the numero uno of Fantastic Four villains. It’d be weird if they didn’t show up.

We know that the FF currently call a different universe home. They live in a retro-futuristic, 1960s version of the MCU where they’re as much celebrities as superheroes. But one of the big questions leading into the movie is what becomes of their world once Galactus pays a visit. Can they save their home? And what causes them to cross over into the MCU? And then there’s the biggest question of all – is Downey’s Doom also from the First Steps universe, or somewhere else entirely?

Honorable Mention: Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch)

Wong may be Sorcerer Supreme now, but that doesn’t mean Stephen Strange won’t continue to play an important role in whatever version of the Avengers exists in Phase 6. He’s a superhero veteran now, and the Avengers need his expertise in both magic and the multiverse. Strange reportedly won’t be in Doomsday, but will return for Secret Wars.

It’s worth remembering that Doctor Strange is currently in another universe, helping Charlize Theron’s Clea deal with the Incursion problem. It’s looking like we’re not going to get another Doctor Strange sequel before Doomsday, but that tease in Multiverse of Madness is sure to pay off when the Avengers assemble to battle Robert Downey, Jr.’s Doctor Doom.

There’s a Star Wars BB-8 Version of Bop it! That Is Both Adorable and Really Cheap Today

March 26, 2025 Ogghy Filed Under: ENTERTAINMENT, IGN

I owned the original Bop It! game as a kid and played it with my friends and family way too much. Having to quickly respond to the commands of some bossy toy was far more fun than it should have been. Now that it’s been almost 30 years since the original Bop it! was released, I had foolishly assumed this game had disappeared for good. Only recently have I discovered that it still exists, and now comes in a much more adorable form.

The Bop It! BB-8 Edition is a cute little interactive version of the lovable Star Wars Droid and Amazon has recently dropped a big discount on it. It plays just like the original Bop It! game, but comes with the added bonus of having C-3PO’s voice telling you what to do. At just $12 right now, this deal is only available for a limited time as part of Amazon’s Spring Sale.

Bop It! Game Star Wars BB-8 Edition at Amazon

With Amazon’s discount, this fun little Star Wars toy has dropped to its lowest price on Amazon since 2019 when it briefly dipped to under $10. Overall, $12 is a great price for what is essentially a Star Wars-themed fidget toy. Thanks to its small size and fairly hidden Bop It! branding, it also doubles as a great desk companion when you aren’t using it. Although I personally think R2-D2 is the better droid, I can’t deny the cuteness aura that BB-8 radiates.

If you happen to be looking for a Bop It! toy more aligned with the original trilogy, there is also a Chewie version that you could consider. Unfortunately, Chewie doesn’t appear to take as well to the Bop It! design as BB-8 and Hasbro has created one of the most horrifying versions of the Wookie I’ve ever seen.

Can you imagine holding Chewie in your hand as he stares blankly beyond the horizon, only to be bopped, twisted, and pulled while Han Solo commands you to do his bidding? If that does appeal to you, then this is the right toy for you. And it’s just as cheap as the BB-8 version I featured above.

Even more Bop It! toys to consider

If you’re like me and only just discovering that Bop It! still exists, let me take you on a quick journey through some of the other versions of this toy currently available on Amazon:

It’s Never Too Late to Protect Your Nintendo Switch – These Are the Best Switch Cases

March 26, 2025 Ogghy Filed Under: ENTERTAINMENT, IGN

The Nintendo Switch was a game-changer in handheld gaming space, acting as both a portable device and a console, when it came out seven years ago. Even though we’re in the last stretch of the Switch before the Switch 2 comes out sometime this year, there’s still plenty of life left in the Switch, Switch OLED, and Switch Lites. One of their biggest virtues is also a drawback: Its versatility means it’s susceptible to damage, especially to the screen and Joy-Con when you’re on the go. To prevent any major or minor scratches and blemishes, a case is the absolute best Nintendo Switch accessory you can grab.

TL;DR – These Are the Best Nintendo Switch Cases:

There are a range of Nintendo Switch Cases to choose from. Some offer a hard shell and space to hold extras like game cartridges or chargers, while others go all out, offering plenty of room to house extra Switch controllers, power banks, and more. For those with butter fingers, some options wrap the console in 360° protection and have grips to prevent and keep the Switch safe during drops. No matter what type of case you’re after, our team of experts has selected the top options to suit your needs.

If you’re looking to grab a future-proof case that will fit the Nintendo Switch 2, you’ll want to grab one of the larger cases in this guide, like one from GeekShare or Controller Gear. Nintendo’s newest console has larger dimensions than its predecessor, so not all of our picks will fit the Switch 2.

Looking for discounts? Check out our guide to the best Nintendo Switch deals.

1. Orzly Carry Case

Best Switch Case

The Orzly Carry Case is our number one choice for the best Nintendo Switch case, regardless of which version of the Switch you have. Its hard outer shell provides plenty of protection, ensuring your console, Joy-Con, games, and accessories avoid accidental damage. Inside, the microfiber screen cover and lining offer soft cushioning, preventing scratches to the Switch’s screen.

Thanks to the water-resistant EVA outer shell, no spillages will leak into the case. If you don’t want to stuff your Switch in a bag, then the Orzly Carry Case’s rubberized handle makes it easy to carry. There’s also storage for up to eight cartridges, so you won’t be without your favorite games away from home base.

The inner mesh pocket can store a range of accessories, including cables, SD cards, and so on. If you’re looking for a secure case to store your Nintendo Switch in, this is an absolute steal at under $20. Plus, it comes in nine different colors like midnight blue, red, and pink.

2. Game Traveler Zelda Nintendo Switch Lite Case

Best Nintendo Switch Lite Case

With smaller dimensions than the original, the Switch Lite needs its own set of accessories. The Game Traveler Zelda Nintendo Switch Lite Case will keep the compact console safe with a hard outer shell made with ballistic nylon, a soft interior lining, and a durable handle. Cutouts and a large tongue protect the screen and hold the Nintendo Switch Lite tightly in place, preventing any major wiggling.

You won’t find much extra space for accessories, but you get a plastic game holder that can hold up to four games and will remain secure in a recessed area underneath the console. There’s an adjustable viewing stand, but that’s it for extras, though the case’s nods to Zelda with a Hylian shield on the front and zipper are nice touches.

3. Game Traveler Nintendo Switch Deluxe Case

Best Budget Case

A Switch might be a bit of an investment, but a case for it doesn’t have to be. For just $15, Game Traveler has designed a reliable option licensed by Nintendo to keep the console safe.

The Game Traveler Nintendo Switch Deluxe Case keeps compact dimensions that can house the original Switch, OLED, or Lite. Its hard shell is wrapped in ballistic nylon for added durability, while the inside features a soft felt to prevent scratches to the display. For added protection, a tongue keeps the Switch securely in place, and everything gets zipped up to keep the device safe from short drops, debris in your backpack, and even a bit of water – just don’t dunk it.

Beyond protecting the Switch, Game Traveler’s case has a bit of extra space to hold some accessories. It’s pretty limited storage, but it comes with two plastic game cases that live in a recessed cutout that can hold up to eight cartridges or SD cards for a healthy on-the-go game library. When playing on a tabletop, a stand is included on the case to prop up the Switch at various angles for added convenience.

4. Tomtoc Carrying Case

Best Compact Case

To take your Nintendo Switch or Switch OLED safely on the move without sacrificing portability, grab the Tomtoc case. Rather than a brick of a carrying case that’ll fit your console and all its accessories, this one wraps up the Switch for a snug, skin-like fit. There’s almost no extra bulk, and it weighs less than half a pound.

You might be concerned that your Switch’s joystick and buttons will have unnecessary pressure placed on them or be accidentally activated, but Tomtoc includes raised sections to accommodate those controls. The case has a soft exterior layer and interior that helps cushion the blow if dropped, and sandwiched in between is a hard, water-resistant EVA shell. Though it’s especially slim, the Tomtoc case still has space to squeeze in a 10-slot organizer for game cartridges.

5. Zadii Hard Carrying Case

Best Rugged Case

For the toughest Switch case, you’ll want the Zadii Hard Carrying Case. This rugged case is surprisingly affordable and offers plenty of protection with its ample padding, even having precut foam slots to snuggly tuck away your whole setup: the console, controllers (Joy-Con, Pro Controller, or third-party), dock, and battery adapter.

The lid of this carrying case also provides a pocket for an HDMI cable and a set of sleeves to hold 21 game cartridges, and a detachable shoulder strap makes carrying the whole thing easier. It’s basically a briefcase purpose-built for the Switch.

6. GeekShare Large Capacity Multifunctional Switch Messenger Bag

Best Nintendo Switch Sling Bag

Sure, the Switch can fit in plenty of sling bags. But for those serious about the Switch and its accessories, it’s best to grab one specifically designed for the console, and GeekShare did just that. This bag made for Switch goes on quickly, offers plenty of storage space, keeps things organized, and provides solid protection for your gear while on the move.

GeekShare’s bag offers one sizable main pocket ready to house the Switch, a smartphone, and even one of the best handheld PCs. Inside that pocket, a soft nylon material helps prevent scratches to the display on those pricey devices, and there’s even a small zipper pocket to tuck away cash, credit cards, or other items for safekeeping. While the large main compartment is ideal for the console, a few outside pockets – including a clear one ready to show off some fun-colored Joy-Con and a larger pocket for USB-C chargers, power banks, and stray cords – are great for other for accessories.

The durable and waterproof Oxford cloth fabric used in the bag’s design and sturdy zipper should keep your console and accessories safe. However, it doesn’t feature a hard shell like many other cases in this guide for that added layer of protection. Still, this versatile bag is perfect for those looking to take the Switch and a slew of accessories on the go.

7. Tomtoc Sling Shoulder Travel Bag

Best Shoulder Bag

If you want the simplicity of a bag you can sling over your shoulder, then tomtoc Sling Shoulder Travel Bag should do the trick. This bag comes with an adjustable shoulder strap to fit the bag exactly to your liking. It’s also built to withstand the outside world with a splash-resistant polyester material and high-quality zippers.

Inside the tomtoc Sling Shoulder Travel Bag, you’ll find a soft lining to prevent scratches alongside a removable W-shaped padding structure and a 20-game cartridge holder. The W-shaped design hugs your Switch in place, preventing accidental joystick presses and separating the console from other accessories in the bag. You can even slip a portable charger in and run a charging cable between compartments to charge on the go. An additional pocket on the front of the bag is perfect for smaller items you might need, like earbuds or charging cables.

8. Mumba Dockable Case

Best Always-On Protective Case

Mumba’s Dockable Case offers full-time protection for your Switch, and there’s little reason to ever take it off. If you want to use your Joy-Con separately from the console, you can slip them out effortlessly without this case getting in the way. Specially placed cutouts give access to all the essential ports, and it’s even possible to leave it on when docking your Switch, hence the name.

If you’ve got butterfingers, Mumba’s 24/7 protection is ideal. This case wraps your Switch in a shock-absorbing, rubberized material that’s easy to grip and will keep your console safe from bumps, scratches, and drops. And it’s available in multiple colors, so you can choose one that best fits your aesthetic.

9. Newdery External Battery Station

Best Charger Case

If you take your Switch everywhere, battery life might be your top concern. The Newdery External Battery Station has an integrated 10,000mAh battery, which can extend gameplay considerably, up to an extra 1.6 charges or around 8 hours of gameplay. You’re not limited to just juicing up your Switch, as it also works as a portable charger to top up your phone or tablet.

This Nintendo Switch battery case is rocking some handy extras, like a kickstand in the back to use your Switch in tabletop mode, and a slot behind that kickstand can stow two game cartridges. It also offers an 18W PD, ensuring your Switch’s fully drained battery is back to full in less than two hours. There’s even a smart chipset to help protect your device against overvoltage and short-circuiting, while cutouts and air vents on the case prevent overheating.

10. Bionik Power Commuter Travel Bag

Best Commuter Case

Bionik’s Power Commuter Travel Bag has a beefy 10,000mAh battery. But rather than charging directly in the case like the Newdery External Battery Station, this option includes an integrated USB-C charging cable to plug in when you stop and play. Of course, that means it’s easy to use this battery to juice up your other devices, and the bag even includes a USB-A connector.

Beyond the battery, the Power Commuter Travel Bag features a durable canvas exterior, and you can wear it across your shoulder or strap it to other luggage. Inside, this bag is padded and plush to keep your Switch safe. It’s also spacious and ready to house a slew of Switch accessories, including slots for game cartridges and Joy-Con.

11. Controller Gear Animal Crossing Backpack

Best Nintendo Switch Backpack

Who said you had to keep your Nintendo Switch in a little case? The Animal Crossing backpack from Controller Gear offers plenty of room for your Nintendo Switch and won’t set you back too many bells. You can even throw in a few of the Switch controllers and other accessories, like the best Switch headsets, since you won’t be limited to stuffing everything into tiny compartments.

Your console can slide into a dedicated sleeve, and there’s even a holder to toss in your dock with its associated cables. Maybe you’re going to get the Nitro Deck for your Switch so you can take advantage of the deck’s comfortable-to-hold form factor with reliable sticks and remappable buttons. The backpack offers plenty of room for it, all of your daily essentials, and more.

12. Waterfield Designs Slip Case

Best Nintendo Switch Sleeve Case

Keep the Nintendo Switch safe while remaining easy to access by gearing up with a sleeve-style case. Waterfield Designs crafts some great bags for a range of devices, and it has created a sleeve specifically for the Switch or Switch Lite. Unlike most cases that require fussing with a zipper or velcro to access the console, this one features a case-length rare earth magnetic strip secures the opening when needed but lets you slip out the console for gaming in seconds.

The lightweight and compact carrying sleeve is basically a Switch dopp kit with a subtle design to suit just about anyone’s style preferences. Each bag is made in the USA with high-quality fabrics, including canvas, nylon, and leather, which are all stain and water-resistant. Inside the pouch is a fuzzy lining to stay gentle on the screen, and two slim interior pockets hold a few accessories like cords and games.

How to Choose a Nintendo Switch Case

If you need something to carry your console around, look for a carrying or travel case; basically, something with straps and is big enough to hold a charger. If you’re throwing it in bag, something with a hard shell is a smarter bet. It should have a way to protect the screen from scratches (usually with a flip-down tongue or sleeve). Consider what you need to carry. Perhaps all you need is the console itself, maybe a few game cartridges. But if you’re traveling away from home for a while, you might need a case large enough to hold the dock and an HDMI cable.

Some cases come with an integrated battery. It’s probably not worth considering a charging case with less than about 10,000mAh of power, as that’ll power your Switch through just short of two complete charges. Bonus points if the battery charges quickly, and can also charge other devices in your inventory.

Remember that these are cases you’ll need to cart around in the real world. What, exactly, do you want to be seen wearing or carrying? Some cases look a little goofy or childish, which is fine if you’re a child, and less so if you’re a grownup who takes a Switch to work to game on a lunch break.

Nintendo Switch Case FAQ

Will my Switch case fit the Switch 2?

Unfortunately, most Switch and Switch OLED cases will not fit the Switch 2, especially if they were made to be slim and discreet. Allegedly measuring 10.5 inches, the Switch 2 seems to be a full inch wider than the Switch OLED, which is just a hair bigger than the original. Unless your case or bag is already fairly roomy, you’ll have to size up with a new one. We’ll be testing Switch 2 accessories to find the best of them as they’re available.

Does a Nintendo Switch need a case?

Unless you’re playing your Switch exclusively at home, you will absolutely want a case to ensure the longevity of the device. Although the portable console is relatively durable, if you toss it in a bag or accidentally drop it without protection, you always run the risk of cracking the screen, damaging the Joy-Con, or breaking other key components, essentially bricking the device or needing to fix it for far more than the cost of a case.

Cases also add convenience, as many come with extra storage for game cartridges and accessories and straps for easy carrying. You’ll even find options that serve as grips to make gameplay more enjoyable or cases offering integrated batteries, ensuring you’re never without juice during crucial moments in the action.

Do new Nintendo Switches come with a case?

None of the Nintendo Switch models come with a case. In some instances, there may be a bundle deal that includes a case, but for the most part, you’ll have to seek out a case on your own. If we’re super lucky, that might change with the Switch 2.

What size does a Switch case need to be?

A Nintendo Switch is 4 x 9.4 x 0.55 inches with the Joy-Con attached; a Switch OLED is 4 x 9.5 x 0.55 inches; and the Switch Lite is . You’ll need to account for the material required in the case’s design, about 0.1-0.2 inches or so, but by no means does the case need to be massive. Sleeve-type cases, like Waterfield Designs Magnetic Case, are especially good for keeping a low handling footprint.

If you’re looking for a hard-shelle case to boost protection or want additional storage for accessories, the case size will increase more drastically. You can expect to add an inch or more to the Switch’s size to accommodate these additions. When putting accessories into a case, it’s also important they don’t press up against your device, causing accidental misspresses or damage to the screen. Pockets and separate storage areas can help prevent this.

March 26, 2025 Ogghy Filed Under: ENTERTAINMENT, IGN

Attack on Titan is one of the best anime of all time, faithfully adapting Hajime Isayama’s groundbreaking manga. Its incredibly well-thought out story continues to inspire video essays, TikTok edits, and heated discourse in comment sections. The show aired over the course of 10 years, with substantial differences in episode and season lengths as it was handed off from Wit Studio to MAPPA Animation after Season 3. That said, very few shows can claim they maintained such a high quality of animation and storytelling from start to finish.

I remember where I was when my brother showed me the first episode, and I dropped everything to watch the final season with him 10 years later. It’s an easy choice as something I want in my media collection, and I’m sure plenty of anime fans feel the same way.

Right now, it seems pretty much everything related to Attack on Titan is on sale, courtesy of Amazon’s Spring Sale and coinciding Crunchyroll deals. Highlights include lowest-ever prices on special edition Attack on Titan steelbooks as well as solid discounts on manga sets.

There are two main places you can watch Attack on Titan online. Crunchyroll is, of course, the best anime streaming service out there, and offers the entire first season of Attack on Titan for free with ads. Crunchyroll also offers a seven-day free trial, so you could (in my opinion) binge the whole series in that timeframe. Otherwise, Premium subscriptions start at $7.99/month.

The Attack on Titan anime is also available on Hulu, which is currently offering one of the best streaming deals: a bundle with Disney+ for $2.99/month.

Who Is Lewis Pullman’s “Bob” in Avengers: Doomsday and Thunderbolts? Marvel’s The Sentry Explained

March 26, 2025 Ogghy Filed Under: ENTERTAINMENT, IGN

Marvel’s upcoming Thunderbolts movie will feature Lewis Pullman as Bob, aka The Sentry. But we also just found out via Marvel’s big announcement video that Pullman is also joining the cast of what we can only assume is Avengers: Doomsday.

So with this Superman-esque hero finally making his MCU debut, let’s look at who The Sentry is and why he is both the Marvel Universe’s greatest hero and its worst nightmare. Read on for a breakdown of the history of this mentally unstable hero. These are the topics we cover here:

  • Who Is Lewis Pullman’s Thunderbolts Character The Sentry?
  • The Sentry’s Powers and Abilities
  • The Sentry’s Secret Origin
  • The Sentry as an Avenger
  • How The Sentry Fits Into the Thunderbolts Movie and Avengers: Doomsday

Who Is Lewis Pullman’s Thunderbolts Character The Sentry?

The Sentry is quite possibly the most powerful superhero in the Marvel Universe. He’s also the most dangerous.

Once an ordinary man named Bob Reynolds, he consumed a serum that granted him “the power of a million exploding suns.” Unfortunately, that power comes at an incredible cost. There’s a dark side to The Sentry’s personality known as The Void. For every act of good The Sentry performs, The Void counteracts it with an evil deed. Fighting against his inner darkness and maintaining his sanity is a losing battle for Bob Reynolds. Still, when the times call for a powerful hero, there’s no one better suited to the job than The Sentry.

The Sentry is quite possibly the most powerful superhero in the Marvel Universe. He’s also the most dangerous.

The Sentry’s Powers and Abilities

The Sentry’s powers stem from an experimental serum, one of the many formulas developed as a potential replacement for the Super Soldier Serum after World War II. The serum is said to accelerate his molecules an instant forward in time. What that means in practice is that The Sentry is an incredibly strong hero with an almost limitless array of powers.

As The Sentry, Bob’s strength is easily on par with heroes like Hulk and Thor. He can also fly and move at incredible speeds, has enhanced senses and is practically invulnerable. He can also absorb and project energy, allowing him to perform feats like firing energy blasts, teleportation and pacifying a rampaging Hulk. In terms of powers, The Sentry is truly Marvel’s answer to Superman.

As The Void, Bob is arguably even more powerful and dangerous. The Void is a shape-shifting, demonic entity that can do everything from controlling the weather to infesting the minds of others. The Void has easily withstood the combined might of the Avengers, X-Men and Fantastic Four, and even throwing it into the sun has proven to be a temporary solution.

The Sentry’s Secret Origin

The Sentry was created by Paul Jenkins, Rick Veitch and Jae Lee and debuted in the pages of the original The Sentry miniseries in 2000. That series introduces its title character as a forgotten hero from the Marvel Universe’s past. Even Bob Reynolds – a middle-aged, overweight married man – doesn’t remember that he used to be the hero nicknamed “The Golden Guardian of Good.”

Bob regains his memories and becomes The Sentry once more, only to discover his sworn enemy, The Void, has also returned. Over the course of the series, The Sentry’s history with characters like Hulk and the Fantastic Four is established, and The Sentry is retroactively inserted into Marvel continuity.

Ultimately, readers learn that The Sentry and The Void are two halves of the same coin. The world was made to forget about The Sentry in order to protect it from The Void’s wrath. Bob realizes he has no choice but to repeat that act in order to keep his dark side at bay. He once again erases the world’s collective memory of The Sentry, though the series is ambiguous as to whether Bob himself has truly forgotten about his superhuman selves.

The Sentry as an Avenger

The original The Sentry miniseries was a self-contained story, but the character did eventually go on to play a recurring role in the Marvel Universe. The Sentry officially became one of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in 2004’s New Avengers, joining a radically revamped team alongside characters like Spider-Man, Wolverine and Luke Cage.

New Avengers reintroduces The Sentry as a self-imposed prisoner of The Raft, one who intervenes to stop a massive supervillain jailbreak and reluctantly joins the team in the aftermath. Though a powerful asset to Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, The Sentry fights to preserve his sanity and once again keep The Void at bay.

When the world’s heroes are torn apart by the events of 2006’s Civil War, The Sentry sides with Iron Man’s pro-registration faction. He knows all too well the damage that unchecked power can wreak. The Sentry also proves vital in protecting the world from Hulk’s wrath in 2007’s World War Hulk.

However, The Sentry’s downfall begins in Marve’s 2009 storyline Dark Reign. As Norman Osborn takes control of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s replacement H.A.M.M.E.R., he recruits Bob Reynolds to join his “Dark Avengers.” The Sentry is manipulated into serving alongside villains like Bullseye, Venom and Ares. Osborn gambles that all those years of grappling with his Green Goblin persona will allow him to keep The Sentry under control. That turns out to not be the case.

The Void is finally unleashed in 2010’s Siege, which sees Osborn lead an all-out attack against Asgard. The recently returned Steve Rogers rallies the true Avengers and saves the day, though at the cost of The Sentry’s life.

In the years since, The Sentry has been resurrected and killed again, while new stories have continued to explore the true nature of his powers and the question of whether The Sentry or The Void is the “real” being. The Sentry was killed once more in 2020’s King in Black. Marvel’s 2023 The Sentry series explores what happens when the power of The Sentry seeks a new host. Who will become the new Sentry, and will they also have to shoulder the burden that is The Void? Only time will tell.

How The Sentry Fits Into the Thunderbolts Movie and Avengers: Doomsday

To date, The Sentry hasn’t enjoyed much exposure outside of Marvel’s comics, apart from appearing in a handful of mobile games like Marvel Puzzle Quest, Marvel Future Fight and Marvel Snap. But that will change soon, as Lewis Pullman has been cast as the Golden Guardian of Good in the MCU.

The Walking Dead’s Steven Yeun was originally cast as Sentry but the role became vacant after Yeun had to drop out of the Thunderbolts line-up due to scheduling conflicts because the movie got pushed from the 2024 release slate following a major reshuffle in the aftermath of the dual writers and actor strikes, leaving Deadpool & Wolverine as the only MCU movie out in 2024.

Pullman won’t be starring in a dedicated Sentry movie or series, though (at least, not yet). Instead, he’s debuting in 2025’s Thunderbolts*, appearing alongside familiar MCU faces like Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes, Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova and David Harbour’s Red Guardian.

Given the character’s comic book history, it’s probably safe to assume the film will play up his status as both a powerful hero and a terrifying villain. Will The Sentry start out as a member of the Thunderbolts, only to become the team’s worst nightmare when he loses control? Given the relative lack of powers on this roster, battling The Sentry would certainly be a monumental task for the Thunderbolts.

We may see Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine play a role similar to that of Norman Osborn in the Dark Avengers comics. Contessa may see Bob Reynolds as a powerful asset to be exploited, only for her control over this dangerously unstable hero to evaporate. If Thunderbolts is basically Marvel’s version of Suicide Squad, then The Sentry may be the film’s Enchantress character.

We also don’t know whether the MCU will touch on the idea that The Sentry is a forgotten hero with deep ties to the rest of the superhero community. Will he be retroactively established as a character who was once very active in the MCU? And just how much will the movie lean on the idea of The Sentry as a twisted analogue of DC’s Superman? We’ll learn more as we move closer to the May 2025 release date of Thunderbolts.

As for Avengers: Doomsday, it’s now known that Pullman will also be appearing alongside a ton of other actors from across the MCU, not to mention some fellow Thunderbolts players like Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), David Harbour (Red Guardian), Wyatt Russell (John Walker / U.S. Agent), and Hannah John-Kamen (Ghost). That means Doomsday is going to have characters from Thunderbolts, Fantastic Four, the traditional Avengers line-up from the Infinity Saga, and many more. If The Sentry does become his dark persona in the Thunderbolts film, should we assume that he will overcome that side of him and return to being a force for good before confronting the threat of Robert Downey, Jr.’s Doomsday? Time will tell!
