Chinese Court Calls Homosexuality a ‘Disorder,’ Will Disney and The NBA Boycott?

March 3, 2021 MadMadNews Reposted Filed Under: INVESTIGATIONS, Newsbusters

When it comes to China and its vast consumer market, even the most sanctimonious of woke U.S. businesses — say, Disney and the NBA — can’t seem to work up much outrage at that government’s outrages against Muslim minorities or Hong Kong democrats. But that may change because of a Chinese court ruling.

National Review’s Jim Geraghty published a piece on March 3 noting that a Chinese court recently upheld a definition of homosexuality as a “psychological disorder.” Geraghty expressed skepticism that woke companies that do business China will reconsider their deals in the communist-governed country, or at least acknowledge how “un-inclusive” it is.

He shared a South China Morning Post report which detailed how the “Suqian Intermediate People’s Court” of Jiangsu province struck down a lawsuit filed by a pro-LGBTQ Chinese woman against a textbook which called homosexuality a “psychological disorder.” The court denied the young women’s complaint that the textbook’s claim was a “factual error” and ruled that it was allowed to stand as an “academic view.”

The Chinese paper said the textbook, which is used by a number of Chinese universities, “listed homosexuality under ‘common psychosexual disorders’ — along with cross-dressing and fetishism.”

The woman who brought the suit in late 2020, expressed her concern “that it [textbook] was perpetuating the belief that being gay was wrong.” Of course, Geraghtry’s follow-up question was how do woke companies like Apple, Disney, the NBA etc. deal with a society that’s OK with the viewpoint that homosexuality is a mental illness? After all, said companies berate audiences and even fire employees who express opinions only slightly right of extreme far left. Remember what happened to Gina Carano?

Geraghtry elaborated that these companies “would never accept a subsidiary, partner, or perhaps even customers who contended that homosexuality was a ‘common psychosexual disorder’ or who labeled gay and lesbian relationships as a ‘perversion of the sex partner.’” Of course not. Disney for example is inclined to rebuke or even fire those that don’t promote the leftist viewpoint.

In addition to firing Gina Carano, Disney higher ups have even threatened boycotts of state governments like Georgia’s, because of pro-life legislation. But in their 2020 Mulan remake, the company thanked the government of Xinjiang Province for allowing them to film on location. That same government is putting Chinese Uyghur Muslims into concentration camps.

The NBA and their diva icon LeBron James are all for fighting America’s “white supremacy” with their Black Lives Matter-approved talking points. Yet the sports corporation said nothing about the communist Chinese government’s crackdown on Hong Kong citizens throughout 2019 and 2020.

If these companies slide on this issue of homosexuality being a “disorder” it just proves their hypocrisy. Are they about “inclusivity,” or just about profiting in a marketplace where “inclusivity” sells? Or, on the flip-side, profiting in a marketplace where “anti-gay” viewpoints sell? We think we know the answer. But the ball is  still in their court.

GMA Honors ‘1 Girl Revolution’ Founder Kate Bryan’s Humanitarian Work During Pandemic

March 3, 2021 MadMadNews Reposted Filed Under: INVESTIGATIONS, Newsbusters

All it takes to do good is for one person to stand up. ABC News highlighted how one woman created the organization “1 Girl Revolution” to celebrate ordinary women doing extraordinary things — especially during the pandemic.

The afternoon hour of Good Morning America (GMA3) aired a segment on founder Kate Bryan’s “1 Girl Revolution” on March 3, praising her website for putting a spotlight “in a very new way, on others’ good work in the pandemic.” Bryan’s site and podcast are devoted specifically to showing how ordinary women are changing lives for the better around them, especially in these hard times. GMA3 helped spread her message during their positive “GMA3 Celebrates Women’s History Month” series.

GMA3 began its segment with a statement from Bryan, who described her site as a “social media platform and podcast that highlights the stories of everyday women who are changing the world through their lives.” What a great way to celebrate Women’s History Month, by honoring female heroes who do their best in service to their individual communities every day.

Bryan added, “We believe that every woman has a voice, every woman has a story, every woman has the power to change the world.” Her site explained, “We release a new podcast episode every week featuring a conversation with a woman who is changing the world through her life. Our platform also features video interviews with women from across the country who are changing the world through their lives.”

Though she created her platform more than two years ago, Bryan talked about how important her website’s mission has been during the COVID pandemic. Of course, challenging times make heroes out of ordinary people and the Coronavirus was no exception. There were plenty of women who rose to the challenge of helping their communities during the natural disaster and Bryan used her website to showcase ordinary women’s heroism and promote ways by which women could benefit their afflicted neighbors.

Bryan explained that she immediately thought when the pandemic hit, “what is 1 Girl Revolution’s role in this? And through that, what is my role in the pandemic? What can I do?” The platform’s founder explained her initial ideas, one of which involved “drafting 15 ways that people can make a difference during the pandemic, whether it’s putting together little bags to drop off at homeless shelters, or writing note cards to people who are elderly.”

The segment also included video and photos of the community outreach Bryan and her platform have organized and inspired. Those included food drives and events to benefit homeless shelters. It even featured praise for Bryan and her project from Zaman International, a humanitarian non-profit dedicated to helping “single moms raising a family who live in extreme poverty.”

Najah Bazzy, Zaman International’s founder, lauded Bryan’s project, stating, “I think the platform she’s given to them has been really significant. If we cannot elevate the voices of women in their stories and their struggles, then the human family is truly missing out.”

Bryan finished out the segment by encouraging viewers to “find one organization or one cause that you can do something good to support, whether it’s an animal shelter, a homeless shelter or a food bank … open your eyes, look around and look for people that might need support during this time.”

Big Tech Platforms Allow Farrakhan to Spread Vaccine Conspiracies

March 3, 2021 MadMadNews Reposted Filed Under: INVESTIGATIONS, Newsbusters

Big Tech continues to let Rev. Louis Farrakhan, the infamous leader of the Nation of Islam, to spread conspiracies that would cause conservatives to be censored.

Farrakhan spoke at the Nation of Islam’s annual Saviours’ Day, and condemned both the COVID-19 vaccine as a “vial of death” and the people who defend it. Farrakhan commented, “You laugh at Reverend Jim Jones with Kool-Aid, this is the biggest dose of Kool-Aid that the enemy has ever offered. It is death itself,” he claimed. Both Facebook and Twitter have allowed this video to be linked from the Nation of Islam’s accounts.

“Do you think we give a damn about you telling us that you can’t fly if you don’t have this? We’ll close down all your airlines,” Farrakhan boasted, before continuing: “Wait, we can’t go to school? We weren’t learning a damn thing anyway!” He proclaimed. “This will force us to make our own schools and make them safe. Don’t let the enemy frighten you with what they have the power to keep you from. If they do this they keepin’ us from them. They are now the great architects of separation or death.”

“Farrakhan chided black celebrities who have promoted the vaccine, saying that they were ‘being bought and paid for’ by the government and aid in the ‘destruction of your people,’” The Daily Caller wrote in its report. “Farrakhan, 87, falsely accused Fauci last year of plotting with Bill Gates to use a coronavirus vaccine to ‘depopulate the Earth.’”

Facebook allowed the Nation of Islam Facebook page to link to this broadcast of the Saviour’s Day event. Facebook has a history of massive hypocrisies on COVID-19 censorship.

Guerrilla journalism group Project Veritas shared leaked footage of Zuckerberg voicing skepticism about mRNA COVID-19 vaccinations during a July 2020 talk. Project Veritas explained that “[Zuckerberg] was worried about the impact a COVID-19 vaccine would have on an individual’s DNA and RNA.” Zuckerberg’s precise statement expressed extreme caution about the developing treatment to solve the COVID-19 pandemic:

“But I do just want to make sure that I share some caution on this [mRNA vaccine] because we just don’t know the long-term side effects of basically modifying people’s DNA and RNA … basically the ability to produce those antibodies and whether that causes other mutations or other risks downstream.”

Project Veritas alluded to an announcement Facebook made earlier on Feb. 8 that the platform was “Expanding our efforts to remove false claims on Facebook and Instagram about COVID-19 and vaccines.” One key detail Project Veritas illuminated was that “In this new policy, Facebook specifically stated that any claims that the vaccine changes an individual’s DNA would be removed.”

Farrakhan, in addition to sharing conspiracies that would not be allowed from Republican leaders, has indeed made offensive and dehumanizing anti-Semitic and anti-American statements in the past. Farrakhan has made statements such as: “You know what they do: call me an anti-Semite. Stop it. I’m anti-termite,” and chanted “Death to America” in a high-profile visit to Iran. Even the anti-conservative SPLC has condemned his organization as having a “bizarre and fundamentally anti-white theology.”

WOW! Twitter Verifies, Suspends Tiny Left-Wing Fact-Check Account

March 3, 2021 MadMadNews Reposted Filed Under: INVESTIGATIONS, Newsbusters

Twitter appeared to bend over backwards to verify a new left-wing fact-checker soon after the account’s creation. But now, the account has been suspended.

Twitter had awarded a blue-check “verified” badge to an account called the Trusted Report Team, “@trteam_official.” The account had been verified despite not reaching even 200 followers, and it had just “Joined February 2021,” according to the account bio.

The account’s few tweets were swimming with leftist propaganda. One tweet claimed that Dr. Seuss drew “racist cartoons,” along with an article from Snopes. Snopes claimed that Seuss “had a history of creating cartoons featuring racist propaganda, and offensive caricatures of Black people, Asians, and Arabs. The Trusted Report Team also retweeted a post from the Southern Poverty Law Center that argued that “The Biden Admin must continue to push tech companies to consider policies limiting hate speech.”

“This account has a total of *10* followers, was just opened, and Twitter already verified it and it’s pumping out false information already. This is there [sic] ‘fact-check.’ WaPo reported last week that Biden had reopened a facility to house kids that used shipping containers  https://twitter.com/trteam_official/status/1366423436231274503,” tweeted Ryan Saavedra, a reporter for The Daily Wire. Saavedra also posted a screenshot of the now-defunct Trusted Report Team blog’s fact check on Biden reopening “‘cages’ in migrant detention facilities.”

Attorney Harmeet K. Dhillon provided a screenshot of the verified Trusted Report Team’s account with only five followers. “Hey ⁦@Twitter what is this one day old account that retweets Southern Poverty Law Center and has five followers doing with a blue check verification ?” asked Dhillon. “What is your process currently? Can any random with a computer get the same?”

As of the publishing of this blog, Twitter has not responded to an inquiry about how the Trusted Report Team’s account became verified. Accounts for “Companies, brands, and organizations” must meet at least two of three criteria in order to become verified, according to the Twitter Help Center:

“presence in public indices, including but not limited to Google Trends, public stock exchanges, stable Wikipedia articles that meet the encyclopedia’s notability standards, and databases such as GlobalGiving;
“3 or more featured references within the 6 months prior to applying in news outlets that meet the News criteria below; or
“follower count in the top .1% of active accounts located in the same geographic region.”

At the top of Twitter’s Help Center article “About Verified Accounts,” a notice said, “Important: Please note that our verified account program is currently on hold. We are not accepting any new requests at this time, however we plan to make it possible to apply for a verified badge starting in 2021.”

Twitter’s verification process has seemingly been on hold since at least December 2020, according to the platform’s own statement. On Jan. 22, 2021 Twitter Support clarified: “Today, we’re enforcing the new policy we launched in Dec 2020 – starting with automatically removing verification from inactive & incomplete accounts. We plan to launch the new process to apply for verification in the next couple of months.”

The Trusted Report Team’s account verification was as mysterious as its suspension. At the time of publishing, Twitter had not responded to an inquiry about the account’s suspension.

CBS Socialist Dokoupil ‘Very Excited’ By ‘Guaranteed Basic Income’

March 3, 2021 MadMadNews Reposted Filed Under: INVESTIGATIONS, Newsbusters

On Wednesday, CBS This Morning co-host and resident socialism advocate Tony Dokoupil confessed he was “very excited” about the government doling out a “guaranteed basic income” to people. He touted a small experiment with it in a California town and happily declared the radical policy to be a success.

“I’m very excited to talk about what would happen if you gave people $500 a month with no strings attached,” Dokoupil eagerly told viewers at the top of the 8:30 a.m. ET half hour. He explained the favorite left-wing agenda item: “It’s an idea known as the guaranteed basic income.”

The anchor then dismissed obvious concerns with the government just handing out money by citing an incredibly small study in one community that could in no way be extrapolated to the entire nation:

And you might assume, hey, that’s free money, people are going to waste it, they’re going to work less, they’re going to be lazy. But Stockton, California has actually tested this idea. Since 2019, 125 residents there have been getting $500 per month on a special debit card, and here are the results – out just this morning. People did not waste the money. In fact, they used it for necessities. Less than 1% went to alcohol or tobacco.

Dokoupil continued to gush over the questionable use of taxpayer money: “Full employment increased by 12% points, and unemployment fell by 4% points. And you may not be surprised to learn people were less anxious, less depressed, and less fatigued overall.” He hoped the example would “radically change the way we think of social assistance.”

Fellow co-host Gayle King chimed in: “I’m a little surprised.” Dokoupil hailed: “Yeah, I think it’s really amazing.” Co-host Anthony Mason marveled:

This is an idea that has been on the table in the business community for a long time. And obviously it came up in the last election, and it’s been tested. I think people want to see it tested on a broader scale, but it’s really interesting what you’re seeing here.

King added: “Like that.”

In early 2020, Dokoupil went to a shopping mall and tried to sell socialism and wealth redistribution with pies to unsuspecting shoppers. A stunt that later received praise from far-left Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren.

The media never seem to find a radical left-wing idea they don’t like.

Dokoupil’s push for a massive new government entitlement program was brought to viewers by WeatherTech and Value City Furniture. You can fight back by letting these advertisers know what you think of them sponsoring such content.

Here is a full transcript of the March 3 segment:

8:30 AM ET

TONY DOKOUPIL: I’m very excited to talk about what would happen if you gave people $500 a month with no strings attached. It’s an idea known as the guaranteed basic income.

Number two, people actually worked more when they were getting this money. Full employment increased by 12% points, and unemployment fell by 4% points. And you may not be surprised to learn people were less anxious, less depressed, and less fatigued overall. This has the potential to radically change the way we think of social assistance.

GAYLE KING: Yeah, I’m a little surprised.

TONY DOKOUPIL: Yeah, I think it’s really amazing.

ANTHONY MASON: I think it surprises a lot of people. This is an idea that has been on the table in the business community for a long time. And obviously it came up in the last election, and it’s been tested. I think people want to see it tested on a broader scale, but it’s really interesting what you’re seeing here.

DOKOUPIL: Yeah.

KING: Like that.

Again, CNN’s Wolf Blitzer Serves as Communications Director for NAACP Boss

March 3, 2021 MadMadNews Reposted Filed Under: INVESTIGATIONS, Newsbusters

Four years ago, CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer served as an unofficial publicist for the NAACP as they staged a sit-in protest at the Senate offices of Jeff Sessions in Mobile, Alabama. He let then-NAACP boss Cornell Brooks speak in long paragraphs and compare their protest to the civil rights protests in Selma against the segregationists.

On Monday, Blitzer was at it again, teeing up leftist talking points from the NAACP boss Derrick Johnson, only this time they were protesting anyone that would object to Biden’s nominees. Showing pictures of  Xavier Becerra, Deb Haaland, Neera Tanden, and sub-cabinet nominees Vanita Gupta and Kristen Clarke, Blitzer threw a softball suggesting Republican critics were racists opposed to “historic strides” in cabinet diversity:

WOLF BLITZER:  Let me get your thoughts on another sensitive issue. A handful of Biden cabinet nominees are facing intense criticism from Republicans in the Senate. These nominees are all people of color. Some are civil rights leaders. Biden’s made some historic strides in terms of cabinet diversity, but are these nominees, from your perspective, being held to a different standard? And we’ve put five of them up on the screen right now.

DERRICK JOHNSON: Absolutely. We have a dual track. There should be no dual track. Judge Garland was voted out of Senate judiciary 15-7, bipartisan. That’s the same standard that all of our nominees should be confronted with: An opportunity to show, are they fit to serve? Do they respect and uphold the Constitution? Kristen Clarke, Vanita Gupta are well-qualified. They should be moved through the process in the same manner of which Judge Garland has been moved through the process. There should not be a dual standard.

CNN and the other networks have often avoided any focus on the extreme views of Biden appointees, hailing them instead for their skin color or sexual orientation. Kristen Clarke has been questioned for writing in a letter that “Black infants sit, stand, crawl and walk sooner than whites…Melanin endows Blacks with greater mental, physical and spiritual abilities.” Blitzer failed to throw that at Johnson.

Blitzer then acknowledged Republicans have called some Biden appointees radical and dangerous….and then again suggested this was just racist tactics:

BLITZER: Yes, Merrick Garland the — was confirmed by the Senate Judiciary Committee, it will now go before the full Senate. He’s expected to be pretty overwhelmingly confirmed when all is said and done. Some of the nominees have been painted by their critics as radical, it’s crazy, even dangerous. How much weight do those words carry when they’re used specifically against people of color?

JOHNSON: It’s fear-mongering. We’ve seen, unfortunately, the Republican Party using fear to try — to throw out progress. We must move on as a nation. We should be in the midst of battles of ideals, not using the tool of fear, tool of race and division to define one’s political party.

Oh yeah, the NAACP never divides people by race! CNN is equally shameless — they CNN spent the Trump years suggesting most of what they were doing was “radical, crazy, even dangerous.” But saying that now about “progressives” is somehow automatically discriminatory.

CNN, MSNBC Pretend There’s a ‘Night & Day’ Difference Between Trump & Biden on Vaccines

March 3, 2021 MadMadNews Reposted Filed Under: INVESTIGATIONS, Newsbusters

CNN and MSNBC spent most of 2020 raining fire on Team Trump’s incompetence on COVID. They even rained fire on the idea that vaccines could be ready before the end of 2020. Ooooops.

Now they can barely stand the idea that Operation Warp Speed lived up to its name, as exemplified by Mika Brzezinski on today’s Morning Joe.

Mika gushed [“wow, wow, incredible”] over President Biden’s announcement that by the end of May there’d be enough coronavirus vaccine for all adults in the U.S. She proclaimed “Joe, it’s night and day, this administration compared to the last.” Scarborough agreed: Well, it certainly is in terms of logistics.” But then he had the honesty to mention:

“The Trump administration did implement Operation Warp Speed. We moved towards a vaccine with extraordinary speed.”

But no sooner had the words “Warp Speed” left Joe’s lips, than Mika responded with a disgusted “ugh” and eye roll. Brzezinski did stop short of waving a string of garlic bulbs to ward off the evil orange spirit.

Making amends for his praise of Trump’s Warp Speed, Scarborough doubled down on Trump’s “horrific” logistics on the vaccine, while praising the Biden administration in that regard. Um, how does Dr. Fauci fit in here? He was incompetent then, and a superhero now?

Mika would surely have been happier with CNN’s handling of the matter. After spending 2020 in a perpetual “doom scroll” of terrible and even more terrible news on the handling of coronavirus, New Day co-host John Berman hailed Biden’s announcement like he had parted the Red Sea of COVID.

BERMAN: After all we’ve been through the last year, it really would be a miracle. And now it may be! And a lot sooner than thought!….If it all happens as planned, it really will be a remarkable achievement!

Notably, there was not a word about The Operation Whose Name Must Not Be Mentioned. Dare we say it? Warp Speed!

Mika Brzezinski expressing disgust at Joe Scarborough’s mention of the Trump administration’s Operation Warp Speed was sponsored in part by United Health Care, Sandals Resorts, and DirecTV.

Here’s the transcript.

MNSBC
Morning Joe
3/3/21
6:96 am ET

MIKA BRZEZINSKI: President Joe Biden announced yesterday that the U.S. will have enough Covid vaccine for every adult by the end of May: two months earlier than expected.

JOE BIDEN: We’re now on track to have enough vaccine supply for every adult in America by the end of May.

. . .

MIKA: Wow. Wow. The White House also officially announced the news that broke at the end of our show yesterday that the administration is using its powers under the Defense Production Act to help drug maker Merck produce Johnson & Johnson’s newly approved one-shot vaccine.

JOE SCARBOROUGH: Well, it certainly is in terms of logistics.

MIKA: Yes!

SCARBOROUGH: You look at the last administration, and the Trump administration did implement Operation Warp Speed —

MIKA: [disgusted sigh and eye roll] Ugh.

SCARBOROUGH: We moved towards a vaccine, and moved towards a vaccine with extraordinarily, with extraordinary speed.

By the time the Biden administration finally got in there, they understood they had the possibility of getting these vaccinations out to everybody. But obviously, the president was horrific — President Trump was horrific when it came to logistics. His team was just terrible when it came to logistics.

They understood that and immediately started working quickly. And Claire McCaskill, because of Operation Warp Speed in the last administration and because of Joe Biden’s team actually being filled with professionals, people who understand logistics and more interested in performance than just gestures, they’re going to get these vaccines out to every single American by the end of May. That’s remarkable —

MIKA: Incredible.

SCARBOROUGH: And means, you know what? We may just have something approaching a normal summer.

Once-Proud DC ‘Football Team’ Dropping Cheerleaders for … Coed Dancers?

March 3, 2021 MadMadNews Reposted Filed Under: INVESTIGATIONS, Newsbusters

The Washington Castrati … er, I mean The Washington Football Team, is dropping its traditional all-female cheerleading squad. It was once known as The Redskinettes. Then, for a season, the, um, Footballettes? Now it’s going to be a “coed dance team.”

Because that’s what football fans really want to fill those commercial breaks and time outs … but no, it really isn’t. It’s just  the price of doing business in 2021. The team has hired Petra Pope as senior advisor in charge of buzzwords and being all sensitive, and she told USA Today it’s going to be a super “modern and diverse” dance squad, with a “skillset of being super athletic, which is what we’re really honing in on.”

The word  she was looking for is “homing,” not “honing,” but it’s close enough for USA Today. Then she uncorked some senior advisor-level happy woke talk, saying:

We want to be more inclusive, so we are going to invite a coed entity (to audition). We’re able to do more things with the strength of a male, and lifts, so that’s changed a great deal. The inclusivity, strength, and interest of choreography has changed.

Inclusivity is strength, Petra. So is diversity.  And the nurturing environment of a DC vs. Philly game will be exactly the place to showcase those strengths. (We call this number ‘Dodging Batteries!’)

It’s been a bad year for the Washington Used-to-bes. After a decade of defying its greatest foes (sports journalists) team management panicked last summer when BLM started burning stuff. Although 90% of Native Americans rather liked the team name (or at least had better things to do than whine about it) The Redskins ceased to be. Then in August came allegations of sexual harassment by former Redskinettes (in The Washington Post, of course).

That episode ended in an out-of-court settlement. But clearly, owner Dan Snyder feels the team’s fans haven’t suffered enough through two decades of lousy football, exorbitant beer prices and the indignity of having to root for the team to be named later.

If having cheerleaders is a reminder of an embarrassment, get rid of them altogether. (The Giants do okay without them. The Browns don’t, but a lack of on-field estrogen is probably not why.) Don’t subject the die-hards who’ve stuck with you through all this to coed dance routines. That’s just insult after injury.

Nets BURY Implosion of Biden Cabinet Pick, Nasty Tweets That Doomed Her

March 3, 2021 MadMadNews Reposted Filed Under: INVESTIGATIONS, Newsbusters

Despite a combined six hours of available air time on Wednesday, the three network morning shows buried the first implosion of a Biden cabinet pick, allowing just a scant two minutes and four seconds out of a combined six hours of available air time. Neera Tanden withdrew as nominee to be the director of the Office of Management and Budget on Tuesday night after nasty tweets doomed her chances.

Yet, NBC’s Today and ABC’s Good Morning America allowed just 27 and 31 seconds, respectively. CBS This Morning managed a bit more, one minute and six seconds. But reporter Ed O’Keefe scoffed at the reasons behind her departure: “Neera Tanden withdrew her nomination last night amid bipartisan criticism of, for lack of a better term, mean tweets about members of both parties.”

Co-host Tony Dokoupil engaged in whataboutism, deflecting, “The definition of mean tweets is pretty elastic given the tweets of the former president.” O’Keefe lamented the history that would no longer be made with Tanden: “[The White House] wanted to keep Tanden in place because, you know, she represents some history. She would have been the first Indian American to hold that job. She’s one of the women that they’re trying to get nominated to senior posts.”

What were the “mean tweets” O’Keefe vaguely referred to? He didn’t inform viewers, but they included seething at “vampire” Republicans, “Voldemort” Mitch McConnell and Susan “the worst” Collins.

Over on NBC’s Today, Savannah Guthrie managed to call Tanden “controversial,” but the only example she offered was an attack on socialist Bernie Sanders:

The President is dealing with his first cabinet defeat this morning. The White House has had to withdraw the nomination of Neera Tanden, Biden’s controversial choice to lead the office of Management and Budget. Tanden faced opposition from Republicans and some Democrats because of her history of partisan attacks on Twitter, including one tweet saying, quote, “Russia did a lot to help Bernie Sanders’ campaign.” Critics say those attacks ran counter to Biden’s calls for unity.

On Good Morning America, Rachel Scott sounded like the journalists at CBS. She offered no examples of what Tanden actually said:

It was really clear that Neera Tanden was facing some deep trouble here with getting confirmed in the Senate. You had lawmakers on both sides of the aisle raising concern with past controversial commences she made on social media.

The news broke during Tuesday’s evening newscasts so only NBC Nightly News had time to get the story in for the 7 PM show. Peter Alexander followed the template and didn’t say what these “incendiary” tweets actually were:

It’s the first setback for the president’s effort to fill his cabinet. Tanden had faced bipartisan opposition from senators due to her past incendiary tweets about some Republican and Democratic lawmakers.

In contrast, when Trump Labor Secretary nominee withdrew in February of 2017, the evening newscasts alone devoted over five minutes to the story.

ED O’KEEFE: Meanwhile, over at the White House, President Biden has pulled the nomination for his budget chief. Neera Tanden withdrew her nomination last night amid bipartisan criticism of, for lack of a better term, mean tweets about members of both parties. The White House says they’re going to find something else for her to do instead that doesn’t require senate confirmation. Tony?

TONY DOKOUPIL: Yeah. The definition of mean tweets is pretty elastic given the tweets of the former president. I’m curious, Joe Biden cannot be accused of rushing to remove this nomination. He stuck with it for quite a long time. How come?

O’KEEFE: Well, a few reasons. One, they wanted to keep Tanden in place because, you know, she represents some history. She would have been the first Indian American to hold that job. She’s one of the women that they’re trying to get nominated to senior posts. The other is that they were under the belief that they could get at least one Republican vote for this given that at least one Democrat had said they weren’t interested in confirming her. But ultimately the horse trading that was going on, they determined it couldn’t happen. Suppose the moral is, Tony, just watch your tweets.

DOKOUPIL: That was exactly what I was going to say, Ed. Well put. Thank you very much.

RACHEL SCOTT: Yeah, it was really clear that Neera Tanden was facing some deep trouble here with getting confirmed in the senate. You had lawmakers on both sides of the aisle raising concern with past controversial commences she made on social media. One Democratic senator who just flat out refused to support her. The margin in the Senate is too thin to lose any Democratic support so the White House is looking for another role for Tanden in the administration that does not require a Senate confirmation, George.

LESTER HOLT: Breaking news out of Washington. The Biden administration has withdrawn a cabinet nominee for the first time after she encountered bipartisan opposition in the Senate. Peter Alexander is at the White House. Peter, what do we know?

PETER ALEXANDER: Lester, after days defending Neera Tanden’s nomination for Budget Director today President Biden announced he had accepted her request to withdraw it. It’s the first setback for the president’s effort to fill his cabinet. Tanden had faced bipartisan opposition from senators due to her past incendiary tweets about some Republican and Democratic lawmakers. Tonight President Biden said he has the utmost respect for Tanden and looks forward to her joining his administration in a different role that does not require Senate approval. Lester?

After Touting Pandemic Climate ‘Silver Lining,’ Roker ‘Worried’ By Recovery

March 3, 2021 MadMadNews Reposted Filed Under: INVESTIGATIONS, Newsbusters

Early on in the pandemic, NBC’s Today show weatherman and climate activist Al Roker was quick to tell viewers that the deadly virus sweeping the globe actually had a “silver lining” in that fossil fuel emissions had declined due to worldwide economic shutdowns that devastated the livelihoods of millions. However, on Wednesday, as the world continued to show signs of gradual recovery amid COVID-19 vaccine distribution, Roker warned viewers to be “worried” about the environment in 2021.

“Well, if there has been one silver lining to the pandemic, in the heart of it, it was we saw a real drop in global emissions,” Roker reminded. He marveled at “The largest drop since World War II, 10%,” and highlighted how different industries were impacted: “…the transportation industry, 40% drop in global emissions. Power industry, 20% drop.”

Roker then feared an ominous dark cloud around that supposed “silver lining”: “But as we’ve come out of this, back in December, we started – and we started to come out, our emissions started going 2% higher than before the pandemic. And we’re worried really about 2021…”

In the early days of the pandemic, Roker was far from alone in trying to spin the global crisis as good news for the environment. CBS This Morning similarly claimed a “silver lining.” In fact, several members of the left-wing media joined the climate chorus, even to the point of suggesting humans were the problem and coronavirus was the solution.

Roker fretting over post-pandemic fossil fuel emissions was brought to viewers by Verizon and Walmart. You can fight back by letting these advertisers know what you think of them sponsoring such content.

Here is a full transcript of Roker’s March 3 climate commentary:

AL ROKER: Well, if there has been one silver lining to the pandemic, in the heart of it, it was we saw a real drop in global emissions. The largest drop since World War II, 10%. And in fact, if you look at say, the transportation industry, 40% drop in global emissions. Power industry, 20% drop. But as we’ve come out of this, back in December, we started – and we started to come out, our emissions started going 2% higher than before the pandemic. And we’re worried really about 2021, this according to the International Energy Agency.
