Washington Free Beacon

WATCH: Joy Reid Concludes Lackluster Career at MSNBC

February 24, 2025 Ogghy Filed Under: INVESTIGATIONS, Washington Free Beacon

Joy Reid wore an MSNBC-branded tracksuit Monday night while hosting the final episode of her show on the failing left-wing network. The defiant performance came after news leaked on Sunday that MSNBC was canceling the The ReidOut and firing Reid due to her abysmally low ratings.

The show topic was the same as it was for every single one of Reid’s shows when Trump has been in office: How to defend democracy and defeat white supremacy when “fascism isn’t just coming it’s already here.” She discussed Trump’s authoritarian assault on the Constitution with Ruth Ben-Ghiat, a so-called fascism expert and history professor at New York University, as well as Ben Rhodes, the former Obama speechwriter who spearheaded the Iran nuclear agreement, attended the funeral of Cuban dictator Fidel Castro, and cried like a bitch when Hillary Clinton lost in 2016. They also discussed the importance of black women.

Reid was eventually joined by MSNBC hosts Rachel Maddow, Nicolle Wallace, and Lawrence O’Donnell, whom she described as her “comrades in arms in covering this insane moment we are in.” Maddow, who earns an annual salary of $25 million, said she was “bereft” that Reid was leaving the network. Wallace praised Reid’s “strength and fearlessness” and said losing Reid was “like losing a limb.” O’Donnell ranted about the Civil Rights Movement and compared Trump to Hitler. “We out in these streets, in this world, and we are not going to stop,” Reid said to close out her final show at MSNBC.

It was initially unclear if Reid would even show up to host another episode. Network employees were distraught after media outlets reported the news before MSNBC could notify Reid’s staff. Rebecca Kutler, who took over as network president last month, called an emergency meeting filled with the “pointed questions” and “raw emotions” as employees vented their “frustration and disbelief,” according to media reporter Oliver Darcy.

More: Joy Reid, a Rare Voice of Moderation on MSNBC, Gets the Axe

Kutler informed Reid’s staff they would all be fired as well, but encouraged them to apply for new positions at the network. She insisted that  the decision had nothing to do with Donald Trump and was made based on “data analysis and programming strategy” that she believed would “best position MSNBC for the year ahead.” Reid’s show was one of the lowest-rated programs on one of the lowest-rated news networks. Last Thursday’s episode of The ReidOut drew just 59,000 viewers in the coveted 25-54 age demographic. She is believed to earn an annual salary in the range of $3 million.

Reid made her first public comments on Sunday during a Zoom call with the podcast “Win With Black Women.” The host sobbed sloppy tears while she defiantly defended her show from critics, insisting she was “not sorry” that she “went hard on so many issues.” Among other things, she refused to apologize for attacking Israel and “defending books that people find inconvenient, you know that Nikole Hannah-Jones put into our spirit that we need to understand 1619 as the real founding of this country,” referring to the controversial and historically inaccurate 1619 Project.

“I’m not sorry that I stood up for those things, because those things are of God, and you know I’m a church girl,” Reid said. “I’m not sorry, I’m just proud of my show.” It had “value,” she alleged.

Reid will be replaced during the 7 p.m. hour by a trio of MSNBC weekend hosts—former Kamala Harris adviser Symone Sanders, anti-Trump “Republican” Michael Steele, and Alicia Menendez, the daughter of former Democratic senator and convicted felon Bob Menendez. Additionally, MSNBC announced that network personalities Alex Wagner, Jonathan Capehart, Ayman Moyheldin, and Katie Phang would no longer serve as hosts going forward. Al Sharpton, the notorious anti-Semite under fire for accepting a $500,000 donation from the Harris campaign before interviewing the candidate in October 2024, appears to have survived the sweeping overhaul—for now.

Gravy Train Derails at MSNBC: Top Anchors Face Huge Pay Cut After Comcast Severs Ties With Left-Wing Network

MSNBC faces an uncertain future in the coming year. The left-wing network is in the process of being spun off by parent company Comcast due to financial concerns. It remains to be seen whether Kutler has what it takes to get MSNBC’s exorbitant payroll costs under control. Prior to joining the network last month, Kutler worked at CNN, where she spearheaded the disastrous launch of CNN+, the $300 million streaming service that was shut down after less than a month. Left-wing scolds have reacted furiously to Kutler’s recent actions, accusing MSNBC of deliberately targeting minority hosts while promoting boring white women such as Jen Psaki, the former White House press secretary under Joe Biden.

“Everytime MSNBC has a ‘shakeup’ the Black woman solo led show is ALWAYS the first to go,” wrote Ambassador Digital Magazine editor Musa Jackson. “Tamron Hall, Tiffany Cross, Zerlina Maxwell and now Joy Reid. Boycott MSNBC.” Network contributor Elie Mystal argued Reid was fired for being black and for being nice to other black people. He accused MSNBC of treating “black folks as interchangeable.”

Before Reid’s firing was announced, Variety reported (somewhat bafflingly) that the coming shakeup at MSNBC would reflect the network’s eagerness to “maintain its progressive stance, rather than trying to tack towards middle ground.” That’s interesting, given that Reid was widely regarded among normal Americans as one of the most consistently unhinged purveyors of racially charged invective to be allowed on television. Among the many benefits of Reid’s show being canceled is that she’ll now be able to devote even more time to tracking down the alleged “hackers” she accused of having “accessed and manipulated” her blog to post hateful content—targeting gays, Jews, and Muslims—that was “fabricated.”

Donald Trump reacted to the news of Reid’s departure in characteristically epic fashion, describing the MSNBC host as a “mentally obnoxious racist” and “one of the least talented people in television.” Trump wondered why a “LOW IQ Con Man” such as Al Sharpton still had a job at the network, which he denounced as a “corrupt operation” and “illegal arm of the Democratic Party” that should be “forced to pay vast sums of money for the damage they’ve done to our Country.”

The Joy is dead. Love live the joy.

Columbia Hires Trump’s Former Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, To Teach Course on Diplomacy

February 24, 2025 Ogghy Filed Under: INVESTIGATIONS, Washington Free Beacon

Columbia University has enlisted former secretary of state Mike Pompeo to teach a course on public diplomacy.

Pompeo will join Columbia’s Institute of Global Politics (IGP), housed within the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), as a Carnegie Distinguished Fellow for a one-year appointment, starting on March 1 and lasting through February 2026.

“I am thrilled to join the Institute and to provide a unique voice defending traditional American values and the Founders’ vision for our great nation, alongside the necessity to support our allies across the world,” Pompeo said in a statement. “I appreciate the commitment of the Institute to a broad spectrum of opinions and look forward to engaging with students and faculty around a central mission of the university: learning through investigation and the exchange of ideas.”

“I’m uninterested in the name of the institution on their diploma, and deeply interested in what it is they know,” Pompeo told the Wall Street Journal. “The United States’ greatest risk is that we refuse to teach the next generation about the greatness of our nation.”

The announcement comes as Columbia continues to deal with rampant campus anti-Semitism. Last month, for example, anti-Israel student radicals dumped cement into SIPA’s sewage system. A week earlier, pro-Hamas agitators stormed an Israeli history class and targeted Jewish students with anti-Semitic flyers.

Columbia, however, has taken increasingly aggressive disciplinary measures, possibly as means of appeasing President Donald Trump, who has promised to target campus anti-Semitism. The university promptly suspended at least one of the student protesters who disrupted the history course and posted a security guard outside at least one of its Jewish studies courses. Two of the other agitators were students at Barnard College, Columbia’s sister school, and were reportedly expelled.

Columbia also hired a Trump transition alumnus last month to lobby for the institution on “issues related to higher education and appropriations” as Republicans threaten to tax the Ivy League institution’s $15 billion endowment. Trump’s Department of Education on Feb. 3, meanwhile, opened an investigation into “widespread antisemitic harassment” at Columbia in the wake of the Oct. 7 Hamas terror attack.

“The Institute of Global Politics at Columbia SIPA is honored to welcome former Secretary of State Pompeo to its current cohort of IGP Carnegie Distinguished Fellows,” a university official told the Washington Free Beacon. “During his tenure as a Distinguished Fellow, Secretary Pompeo will meet with students, engage with faculty and university leadership, and contribute to ongoing policy work within IGP.”

Pompeo will join fellow former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, who became IGP chair in 2023 and teaches a fall semester course, “Inside the Situation Room.” In September, dozens of anti-Israel students gathered outside Clinton’s “sham class,” branding her a “war criminal” and urging attending students to walk out.

Clinton “fully endorses IGP’s mission, including its commitment to welcoming experts with a diversity of political perspectives,” a university official told the Free Beacon.

Al Sharpton’s Scandal-Plagued Show Survives MSNBC’s Cancellation Spree

February 24, 2025 Ogghy Filed Under: INVESTIGATIONS, Washington Free Beacon

MSNBC host Al Sharpton, under scrutiny over conflicts of interest for taking cash from the Kamala Harris campaign, has emerged unscathed from the liberal network’s recent cancellation spree.

On Saturday, MSNBC canceled host Joy Reid’s primetime show, The ReidOut. The bloodbath continued on Monday after the network canceled the weekend shows of Ayman Mohyeldin, Katie Phang, and Jonathan Capehart. Those three hosts will remain employed by the network in different roles, while Reid is leaving after her final show airs on Monday.

Sharpton’s weekend show, PoliticsNation, remains untouched, raising questions about how the anti-Semitic activist survived the bloodbath. President Donald Trump raised the issue on Sunday, asking whether Sharpton has leverage over Brian Roberts, the president of Comcast, which controls MSNBC.

“Then there’s, of course, the LOW IQ Con Man, Al Sharpton, who has, perhaps, the lowest TV ratings in the history of television,” said Trump. “What is he doing to Brian Roberts to stay on the air?”

MSNBC has long faced scrutiny for employing Sharpton, because of his controversial history and concerns that he uses threats of boycotts to pressure companies to give him money. In 2015, black media mogul Byron Allen sued Comcast and Sharpton in 2015, alleging that Comcast paid $3.8 million to Sharpton’s charity, the National Action Network, to endorse the company’s purchase of NBCUniversal. Months after he publicly championed the deal, MSNBC hired Sharpton to host PoliticsNation.

Sharpton’s National Action Network has created more recent ethics concerns for MSNBC. Journalists and media ethics groups have criticized Sharpton and MSNBC following the Washington Free Beacon’s report that Sharpton’s National Action Network nonprofit received $500,000 from the Kamala Harris campaign just before he interviewed the Democratic candidate on his MSNBC show.

The Society of Professional Journalists said the conflict of interest created a “black eye” for Sharpton, MSNBC, and the journalism industry.

Sharpton has also used his MSNBC perch to promote boycotts against companies he deems to be insufficiently pro-black. Sharpton announced last month that he will select two companies to target in a boycott led by the National Action Network.

An Ohio chapter of the National Action Network has already called for a 24-hour boycott later this week of companies that ended DEI initiatives. Moniquec Conner, the president of the National Action Network chapter in Canton, Ohio, announced the boycott against McDonald’s, Walmart, and Amazon in what will be the “first of multiple counter measures to the attack on DEI.”

MSNBC did not respond to a request for comment.

Too Big To Fail: Trump Must Act To Save Hooters From Bankruptcy

February 24, 2025 Ogghy Filed Under: INVESTIGATIONS, Washington Free Beacon

The first existential crisis of Donald Trump’s second term is upon us. Hooters, the iconic casual dining chain best known for its decades-long commitment to male camaraderie and female empowerment, is reportedly on the verge of filing for bankruptcy. The storied franchise has been struggling to overcome financial difficulties such as mounting debt and declining foot traffic at its nearly 300 locations across the United States, and recently engaged a law firm to explore a potential Chapter 11 filing, though no final decision has been made. The future of American prosperity is at stake.

Hooters/Instagram

The shocking development threatens to derail Trump’s promise to preside over an American “golden age.” His predecessor, Joe Biden, is clearly to blame for Hooters’ financial trouble. The chain was forced to close dozens of underperforming locations on Biden’s watch, and the decline in foot traffic coincided with the Democratic Party’s malicious efforts to shame men for liking boobs and denounce attractive women for embracing “body positivity.” Nevertheless, it is Trump who must act now to preserve the vital American institution for future generations.

Hooters/Facebook

If for some reason Trump does not feel compelled to use his large personal fortune to bail out Hooters, he should immediately instruct the Department of Government Efficiency to establish a Troubled Asset Relief Plan using the billions of dollars it has saved by slashing the federal bureaucracy. Stimulus checks for all Americans will have to wait, as the continued survival of Hooters is an urgent matter of national security. These considerable assets are simply too big to fail.

Incoming German Chancellor Says Netanyahu Can Visit Germany, Defying ICC Warrant

February 24, 2025 Ogghy Filed Under: INVESTIGATIONS, Washington Free Beacon

German chancellor-designate Friedrich Merz said Thursday that he will make sure Benjamin Netanyahu can visit Germany without being arrested, taking a stand against the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrant for the Israeli prime minister.

“In the event that [Netanyahu] plans to visit Germany, I have also promised myself that we will find a way to ensure that he can visit Germany and leave again without being arrested,” Merz said at a press conference in Berlin, a day after his conservative Christian Democratic Union party won national elections.

The ICC issued arrest warrants in November for Netanyahu and former defense minister Yoav Gallant, accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Israel-Hamas war. More than 100 nations are legally obligated to arrest Netanyahu if he enters their territory, though countries including France and Italy have indicated they will not comply.

A spokesman for outgoing chancellor Olaf Scholz, of the left-wing Social Democratic Party, had declined to say whether Scholz’s government would execute the warrants.

Neither the United States nor Israel is a member of the ICC.

Netanyahu’s office said Merz has invited the Israeli leader “to make an official visit to Germany, in overt defiance of the scandalous International Criminal Court decision to label the Prime Minister a war criminal.”

President Donald Trump signed an executive order in early February sanctioning the ICC over its efforts to prosecute Israel and other American allies. “The ICC consistently constrains liberal, democratic nations like Israel in exercising their rights to self-defense,” a White House fact sheet reads, adding that Trump “will not support an organization that unfairly targets U.S. citizens and our allies.”

House Dem in Charge of Caucus-Wide Messaging Praises Activist Who Pledged To ‘Take’ Jews ‘Back to Poland’

February 24, 2025 Ogghy Filed Under: INVESTIGATIONS, Washington Free Beacon

Rep. Debbie Dingell (D., Mich.), who leads a committee tasked with communicating “where House Democrats stand” on key issues, recently paid tribute to an anti-Israel activist who hailed the leader of the terrorist group Hezbollah as a “hero” and has called for Jews to be sent “back to Poland.”

Dingell recognized Osama Siblani, the publisher of the Michigan-based Arab American News, in a submission to the Congressional Record on Jan. 28, according to House records. Dingell said Siblani’s “voice has rung loud and clear as an advocate for Arab lives around the world” and that his “efforts are worthy of commendation.”

For Siblani, those efforts include praise for the terrorist groups Hamas and Hezbollah and anti-Israel rhetoric.

At a rally in Dearborn he organized on Sept. 25, for example, Siblani hailed then-Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah as a “hero.” When chants of “death to Israel” broke out during his speech, Siblani responded, “Believe me, they will take care of the job,” an apparent reference to Hezbollah, according to the Middle East Media Research Institute. Siblani issued a message to Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israeli Jews: “We will take you back to Poland.”

He has urged Arabs to “fight” against Israel with “stones,” “guns,” or “their hands.” Siblani has lauded Hamas terrorists as “freedom fighters,” and accused pro-Israel lawmakers of being “bought” by the “Zionist lobby.”

Dingell’s homage to Siblani could raise questions for House Democratic leaders, many of whom have blamed the party’s communications failures and embrace of extremists for its election losses in November.

Dingell serves as chair of the House Democratic Policy and Communications Committee, which is in charge of “developing and supporting a strong Caucus-wide message that forcefully communicates where House Democrats stand and sharply contrasts that with the extreme policies of House Republicans.”

Dingell is not the first Democrat to court Siblani, who launched the Arab American News in Dearborn in 1984.

Officials in the Biden-Harris administration met multiple times with Siblani last year in hopes of shoring up waning support with Michigan’s Arab and Muslim communities. Siblani, one of the communities’ most influential leaders, supported the “uncommitted” movement to boycott the Biden-Harris ticket over the administration’s position on the Israel-Hamas war.

Jonathan Greenblatt, the head of the Anti-Defamation League, said he was “deeply disturbed” that the White House would consult with Siblani given his “outright support” for Hamas and Hezbollah.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D., Mich.), a leading contender for president in 2028, hosted Siblani on a junket to the Middle East last week, where the Whitmer delegation met with the sheikh of Ras al-Khaimah, one of the emirates of the UAE, the Washington Free Beacon reported.

Rep. Haley Stevens, a pro-Israel Democrat considering a run for Michigan governor, criticized Whitmer for traveling with Siblani.

“I have never met Siblani, I don’t intend to meet him or affiliate with him and I can’t condone that type of relationship,” she told Jewish Insider. “Certainly people have the ability to express their First Amendment rights, but I do not intend to take any trips abroad with Osama Siblani or anyone with those types of beliefs as part of a government mission.”

Dingell’s office did not respond to a request for comment.

Apple Pledges $500 Billion US Investment Following Trump’s China Tariffs

February 24, 2025 Ogghy Filed Under: INVESTIGATIONS, Washington Free Beacon

As President Donald Trump pushes to revive domestic manufacturing and impose tariffs on other countries, Apple announced Monday that it will commit more than $500 billion to expanding its facilities and investments in the United States over the next four years.

As part of the 12-figure commitment, the largest in Apple’s history, the company plans to hire 20,000 people and build dozens of facilities across the United States. Apple plans to “double its U.S. Advanced Manufacturing Fund” and work with “thousands of suppliers across all 50 states” to produce more products domestically, the tech giant said in a Monday statement.

The announcement comes after Trump imposed 10 percent additional tariffs on all goods imported from China, where Apple produces most of its iPhones and other products.

Trump during a Thursday meeting with Apple CEO Tim Cook attributed the tech giant’s investment to his tariffs.

“He’s investing hundreds of billions of dollars, I hope he’s announced it,” Trump said of Cook. “He’s investing hundreds of billions of dollars. And others, too, a lot of chip makers coming in, a lot of automakers coming in.”

White House trade counselor Peter Navarro echoed Trump’s sentiment, saying on Monday that “hundreds of billions of dollars now across different industries and sectors [will be] coming into this country, investing here instead of Tim Cook going to China.”

Biden Admin Claimed US Could Still Monitor Afghanistan Following Withdrawal. Rubio Says the Situation Is ‘Far More Uncertain.’

February 24, 2025 Ogghy Filed Under: INVESTIGATIONS, Washington Free Beacon

Secretary of State Marco Rubio has warned that terrorist groups are exploiting ungoverned regions in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan, challenging the Biden administration’s claim that the United States can remotely monitor and eliminate terror threats.

“I wouldn’t say it’s the pre-9/11 landscape, but I think any time you have governing spaces that are contested, that you don’t have a government that has full control of every part of their territory, it creates the opportunity for these groups,” Rubio told interviewer Catherine Herridge on Thursday, according to a Voice of America report.

“The difference between today and 10 years ago is that we don’t have American elements on the ground to target and go after them,” Rubio added, referring to the Biden administration’s 2021 withdrawal from Afghanistan. During the abrupt withdrawal, widely considered one of the Biden administration’s most significant foreign policy blunders, a suicide bomber killed 13 U.S. service members.

The Taliban quickly regained control of Afghanistan following the U.S. withdrawal, taking the Biden State Department by surprise. The administration nevertheless said that its “over-the-horizon” counterterrorism strategy allowed the United States to detect and neutralize terrorist threats without a physical presence in the country.

Even Biden administration officials were unsure about the strategy’s effectiveness, however, with then-director of national intelligence Avril Haines in May 2023 confirming reports that the United States no longer had eyes on the ground in Afghanistan.

A U.N. report earlier this month corroborated Rubio’s comments, noting that al Qaeda operatives are finding safe havens across Afghanistan.

“The Taliban maintained a permissive environment allowing Al-Qaida to consolidate, with the presence of safe houses and training camps scattered across Afghanistan,” the report reads, adding that extremist groups have conducted strikes in Europe and are “actively seeking to recruit from among Central Asian states” bordering Afghanistan.

Rubio struck a similar note in the interview. The situation in the Middle East is “far more uncertain” than it used to be, the secretary of state said—”and it’s not just limited to Afghanistan.”

Blowback in the Windy City: 4 in 5 Chicagoans Disapprove of Dem Mayor, Poll Finds

February 24, 2025 Ogghy Filed Under: INVESTIGATIONS, Washington Free Beacon

Chicago mayor Brandon Johnson (D.) is grappling with historic levels of voter disapproval over his handling of the city’s migrant influx and his pushback against President Donald Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration.

An overwhelming 79.9 percent of Chicago residents disapprove of Johnson’s leadership, while only 6.6 percent view the Democrat favorably, according to a poll that M3 Strategies released on Saturday. The mayor’s favorability rating is even lower than in October of last year, when Johnson became the most unpopular mayor in Chicago history.

Around 67 percent of voters, meanwhile, identify crime as Chicago’s most pressing issue, with respondents also citing high taxes and inflation as top concerns at 54 percent and 41 percent, respectively. “LGBTQ+ rights,” at 3 percent, and “reproductive freedom,” at 4 percent, are voters’ lowest concerns, the poll found.

Johnson, who was elected mayor in 2023, is electorally underwater in the poll, with only 8.2 percent support. His primary rivals, Illinois secretary of state Alexi Giannoulias and former Chicago schools chief Paul Vallas, are leading with 27.4 percent and 21 percent, respectively. Giannoulias boasts a 49 percent favorability rating, while Vallas has 41 percent, according to the poll.

Johnson has long faced backlash over his handling of Chicago’s migrant crisis, with residents decrying his proposed tax hike to cover a budget deficit as the city spends over half a billion dollars on migrant shelters. The mayor, though, has criticized the Trump administration’s response to the crisis, saying that arresting and deporting illegal immigrants is “attempting to get us to surrender our humanity.”

The Department of Justice sued Chicago and Illinois earlier this month, arguing that the city’s and state’s sanctuary laws “interfere” with the administration’s immigration enforcement policies.

Illinois and Chicago “refuse to cooperate with detainers,” a DOJ official told the New York Post. “Instead of handing over people who are in prison or in jail to federal immigration authorities they will just let folks go.”

Chicago’s Welcoming City ordinance prohibits any city agency or official from arresting or detaining “a person solely on the belief that the person is not present legally in the United States.”

A Convicted Terrorist Oversees Abbas’s ‘Reformed’ Pay for Slay System. Plus, How a Biden ‘Environmental Justice’ Adviser Raked in Taxpayer Dollars.

February 24, 2025 Ogghy Filed Under: INVESTIGATIONS, Washington Free Beacon

When Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas issued a vaguely worded decree purportedly revoking the PA’s infamous “pay for slay” system, the European Commission called it a “significant political development” that “signals the Palestinian Authority’s commitment to implement far-reaching reforms.” Since then, Palestinian officials have assured the Arab world that the terror payments aren’t going anywhere.

The man overseeing the allegedly reformed system is Raed Abu al-Humus, the Free Beacon‘s Andrew Tobin reports from Jerusalem. He spent 10 years in prison alongside Nasser Abu Hamid, the late founder of Fatah’s Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades. Abu al-Humus has praised his jailmate as a “masked lion” and “inspiration” to the “Palestinian youth.” Now, he’s leading Abbas’s Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs.

Abu al-Humus replaces Qadura Fares, another convicted terrorist whom Abbas fired in a move that seemingly demonstrated his seriousness about reforming “pay for slay.”

“Just hours after his appointment,” Tobin reports, the commission “published a photograph of Abu al-Humus smiling alongside two arch-terrorists, Ahmed Barghouti and Mohammed Aradeh, whom Israel recently released to Cairo as part of a hostage-ceasefire deal with Hamas.” Both were serving life sentences.

“The photo is among a number of early signs that Abbas will once again disappoint international donors who expect him to end ‘pay for slay,'” Tobin writes. “Qatar’s Al-Sharq newspaper quoted unnamed senior Palestinian officials last Wednesday as saying the terrorism payments would continue ‘without any reduction.'”

Young, Gifted & Green is an “environmental justice” nonprofit that works with “Black and Latinx leaders” to end what it calls “environmental racism.” The Biden administration tapped its CEO, LaTricea Adams, to serve on the White House Environmental Justice Advisory Council, which Joe Biden created via executive order to address “racial inequity” in climate change.

Adams kept busy while serving on the council. In December, as Biden and his “antiracist” climate council eyed the exit doors, the EPA announced that it had selected Young, Gifted & Green to receive a $20 million taxpayer-funded grant under its Environmental and Climate Justice Community Change Program. Internal EPA documents reviewed by our Thomas Catenacci list Adams as the sole applicant for the grant. And while the council Adams served on advised the White House, it was formally considered a part of the EPA.

Adams served on that council from March 2021 through the end of the administration. “It remains unclear the extent to which Adams, in her role on the Environmental Justice Advisory Council, advised the EPA on its grantmaking activity or implementation of the Community Change program,” writes Catenacci. “But the revelation adds further weight to questions about the Biden administration’s process for doling out grants and whether the administration played favorites when it came to such programs.”

Federal officials “are generally expected to avoid even the appearance of impropriety when carrying out their duties.” Groups whose leaders served on Biden’s Environmental Justice Advisory Council, though, “were the recipients of EPA grants totaling hundreds of millions of dollars.”

It’s been nearly 10 years since Joy Reid’s homophobic and anti-Semitic blog posts resurfaced, and Reid still hasn’t found the “hackers” who allegedly “planted” the bigoted screeds on her site. But she’s about to have a lot more time to look.

Reid got the ax at MSNBC, our Andrew Stiles reports, with the final episode of her show The ReidOut set to air sometime this week. Replacing her is a trio of MSNBC weekend anchors: former Kamala Harris adviser Symone Sanders, so-called Republican Michael Steele, and Alicia Menendez, the daughter of Democrat and convicted felon Bob Menendez. MSNBC is reportedly interested in hiring Politico reporter and self-described “walking Beyoncé encyclopedia” Eugene Daniels to fill their weekend slot.

Reid was known for delivering insightful analysis that connected with working-class Americans, like her insistence that Kamala Harris waged a “flawlessly run” campaign because she earned an endorsement from Queen Latifah, who “never endorses anyone.” In 2020, she expressed shock when a Latino congressman suggested “Latinx” was not a “preferred term” for actual Latinos.

“These insightful remarks persuaded MSNBC to give Reid an annual salary believed to be in the range of $3 million,” writes Stiles. “Network executives clearly valued her cerebral reporting and ‘in-depth interviews with politicians and other newsmakers,’ according to the New York Times. In November, for instance, Reid interviewed a Yale psychologist who argued Democrats were ‘entitled’ to shun their Trump-supporting family members because it ‘may be essential for your mental health.'”

“Reid’s sway at MSNBC was such that the network didn’t even bother to figure out what really happened to Reid’s old blog after internet sleuths uncovered a series of bigoted posts in 2017. Reid accused ‘hackers’ of having ‘accessed and manipulated’ her blog to post hateful content—targeting gays, Jews, and Muslims—that was ‘fabricated.’ She urged the FBI to investigate. The results of the alleged investigation were never released, but Reid was promoted to a full-time host in 2020.”

Away from the Beacon:

  • Benjamin Netanyahu halted the release of Palestinian prisoners over Hamas’s “humiliating” hostage handovers, including the recent display in which the terror group brought detained hostages to a ceremony where other captives were freed. Netanyahu said he won’t change course until Israeli hostages are released “without the humiliating ceremonies,” something Hamas showed it is capable of on Saturday, when it quietly released Arab-Israeli Hisham al-Sayed away from the propaganda display. The White House supports the move.
  • Kamala Harris received an NAACP award over the weekend and managed to deliver a speech without saying anything at all. “Some see the flames on our horizons, the rising waters in our cities, the shadows gathering over our democracy, and ask, ‘What do we do now?'” she said. “But we know exactly what to do.” We do?
  • Barnard College expelled two students who stormed an Israeli history class and targeted Jewish students with anti-Semitic flyers. Who knew administrators had the power to do that?
  • Fifty-seven percent of voters say Trump is doing a better job than Biden as president, a number driven by the “hugely popular” policies of closing the border, cutting waste, and “resetting merit as the prime hiring and contracting principle,” according to a Stagwell poll that drops today.
