White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt: βAmerica not a dumping ground for worldβs illegal criminalsβ
The first illegal criminals arrived at GuantΓ‘namo Bay on Tuesday via a military plane. President Trump signed an executive order directing the secretaries of the Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security to prepare the facility to be able to hold as many as 30,000 illegal criminals. This first flight was carrying 10 illegal criminals.
βThese 10 high-threat individuals are currently being housed in vacant detention facilities,β the Defense Department said in a Wednesday statement, according to ABC News.
This particular course of action is being called a βtemporary measure.β
The statement also noted that, βU.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is taking this measure to ensure the safe and secure detention of these individuals until they can be transported to their country of origin or other appropriate destination.β
βWell, they have seen that President Trump is not messing around, and heβs no longer going to allow America to be a dumping ground for illegal criminals from nations all over this worldβ¦β said White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt according to Fox News.
