Department of Education to leave building after 40 years as part of effort to eliminate government agency
FIRST ON FOX – The Department of Education (ED) announced on Thursday it will move to a smaller building to reduce the agency’s footprint as part of their broader effort to dismantle itself.Department staff will move out of the Lyndon B. Johnson headquarters building, so the Department of Energy can eventually move in by August. The move is what the officials call “a prudent step to save hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars and further reduce the federal education bureaucracy.”The ED said that their relocation will save taxpayers approximately $4.8 million annually in operating costs and eliminate wasted space in a building that is approximately 70% vacant. TRUMP ADMIN CUTS RED TAPE AS IOWA JOINS EFFORT TO RETURN EDUCATION TO STATES”One year ago, President Trump signed one of the most consequential executive orders of his presidency – to break up the federal education bureaucracy and return education to the states,” Education Secretary Linda McMahon said. The Trump administration announced last week an interagency agreement between the ED and the Department of Treasury, with an official calling it the “largest” step to shutting the agency down. The official previously told Fox News Digital that staff are working to put themselves out of a job under President Donald Trump’s orders because the agency is not needed. This agreement follows nine agency partnerships over the past year as the Department of Education seeks to minimize itself, shifting power from some of its offices and programs to other federal agencies.MCMAHON SAYS GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN PROVED SCHOOLS DON’T NEED FEDERAL OVERSIGHT AT ALLWhile Congress holds the key to shutting the operation down for good, McMahon plans to show legislators that the interagency agreements are “proof of concept” that the ED is not needed for federal grant aid and federal student loans to continue flowing to borrowers.Throughout the 2024 campaign, then-candidate Trump promised to eliminate the Department of Education and signed an executive order directing his administration to start disbanding it. CNN boss Mark Thompson insists he ‘really committed’ to network amid looming ownership changes
CNN CEO Mark Thompson insisted on Wednesday that he’s committed to the network despite a looming ownership change that has employees concerned for their future. Netflix dropped its bid to buy Warner Bros. Discovery last month after the company announced Paramount’s latest bid to buy all of its assets, including CNN, was “superior.” The sale to Paramount would put media mogul David Ellison — who has a close relationship with President Donald Trump and has angered liberals for installing Bari Weiss as editor-in-chief of CBS News — in charge of CNN. As a result, CNN staffers have been on edge about what the future holds for the struggling network, but Thomspon suggested he plans to stick around to find out. “I’m really committed to CNN,” Thompson said in a Zoom meeting with international staffers, a network insider told Fox News Digital. MOOD IS ‘HORRIFIC’ INSIDE CNN AS STAFFERS BRACE FOR CHANGE AMID POTENTIAL PARAMOUNT TAKEOVER, INSIDERS SAY”I’m in the middle of something exciting and interesting with all of you,” he continued. “And I’d like to continue it.”The Status newsletter, which first reported Thompson’s comments, added that “several anchors and on-air journalists hammered him with questions about ensuring editorial independence under incoming Paramount ownership.”A CNN insider recently told Fox News Digital that staffers feel “a mix of despair, apprehension and curiosity” as the sale to Paramount looms. NETFLIX BACKS OUT OF WARNER BROS BIDDING WAR AFTER PARAMOUNT MADE ‘SUPERIOR’ OFFER”Look, I think this is a place that has gone through a lot. A lot of mergers in the past decade. A lot of ‘fresh’ starts,” the CNN insider said. “I think there is an underlying fear of mixing two news divisions,” they continued. “Who is gonna get canned?”CNN has struggled in the ratings department in recent years, and Ellison has showed with significant changes to CBS that he isn’t afraid of shaking up a legacy organization. CNN staffers famously turned on former CEO Chris Licht when he tried to tamp down CNN’s partisanship that marked the Jeff Zucker era. Thompson replaced Licht in 2023. While Thompson said he is committed to CNN, it’s unclear if Paramount feels the same way about the current network boss. Paramount did not immediately respond when asked for comment. Thompson previously attempted to subdue concerns last month with an encouraging memo to CNN employees. BARI WEISS TELLS CBS NEWS STAFF THEY’RE ‘NOT PRODUCING A PRODUCT THAT ENOUGH PEOPLE WANT'”Despite all the speculation you’ve read during this process, I’d suggest that you don’t jump to conclusions about the future until we know more. And secondly, let’s not forget our duty to our audience,” Thompson wrote in the memo obtained by Fox News Digital. “We’re still near the start of what is already an incredibly newsy year at home and abroad, one that will culminate with critical U.S. midterm elections and who knows what else,” he continued. “Let’s continue to focus on delivering the best possible journalism to the millions of people who rely on us all around the world.”Fox News Digital’s Joseph A. Louisville to pay $800K after Christian photographer beats law forcing her to shoot same-sex weddings
The city of Louisville, Kentucky, has agreed to pay $800,000 in attorney fees as part of a settlement with a Christian photographer after years of litigation over a nondiscrimination provision in a local law she was concerned would make her violate her faith. “I am thrilled to see this case come to a close and celebrate that free speech is for everyone and the government cannot force you to create anything you don’t believe in,” Chelsey Nelson, an Alliance Defending Freedom client and Louisville-based photographer, said in a statement to Fox News Digital. “Artists like me should have the right to decide what messages we express,” Nelson added. “You shouldn’t lose your freedom of speech when you choose to make a living. I am grateful that I can continue photographing and creating consistent with my religious beliefs and ensure that all artists in Louisville can do the same.” FEDERAL APPEALS COURT SIDES WITH WASHINGTON PROFESSOR PUNISHED FOR MOCKING UNIVERSITY LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENTThe settlement, filed Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Kentucky, Louisville Division, follows a Sept. 30, 2025, ruling in which the court sided with Nelson over a prohibition from the city of Louisville on discrimination. In the September ruling, the court cited 303 Creative LLC v. Elenis, which said that a Colorado website designer’s First Amendment rights permit her to refuse to make custom wedding websites for couples of the same sex. “That 2023 decision confirmed this Court’s 2022 interpretation of the First Amendment to bar the City of Louisville from enforcing an ordinance prohibiting wedding photographer Chelsey Nelson from stating her traditional (now dissenting) views on traditional marriage or declining to participate in those ceremonies,” the September ruling said.CHICAGO PUBLIC SCHOOLS WILL NOW ALLOW BIBLE COLLEGE STUDENTS INTO ITS TEACHING PROGRAM, AFTER LAWSUITTHE US GOVERNMENT TARGETED ME FOR MY POLITICAL SPEECH. IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU, TOO”These disputes, no less than those from earlier but equally fraught moments in our nation’s history, posed profound questions about the meaning of speech, the government’s authority to demand as well as forbid expression, and the tension in a system of ordered liberty between the common good and individual freedom.” Tuesday’s settlement was announced by Alliance Defending Freedom, which represented Nelson and filed the lawsuit, Chelsey Nelson Photography v. Louisville-Jefferson County Metro Government in 2019. “Louisville’s law threatened to compel Nelson to create photographs and blogs celebrating a message about marriage she does not believe and prohibited her from expressing her views on marriage on her studio’s website,” according to the legal group. “The government cannot force Americans to say things they don’t believe,” Bryan Neihart, senior counsel at Alliance Defending Freedom, said in a statement. “For almost six years, Louisville officials tried to do just that by threatening to force Chelsey to promote views about marriage that violated her religious beliefs,” Neihart added. “Louisville’s threats contradicted bedrock First Amendment principles which leave decisions about what to say with the people, not the government. This settlement should teach Louisville that violating the U.S. Constitution can be expensive.”Fox News Digital reached out to the office of Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg for comment.
Spring Break idiocy and tragedy: Partygoer twerking atop moving SUV killed after being flung from vehicle
A shocking spring break stunt that went viral for all the wrong reasons has now ended in tragedy.
A 22-year-old spring breaker, identified as Michael Brown, has died after being flung from the roof of a speeding Jeep while allegedly twerking during a drunken joyride in Port Aransas, Texas, the New York Post reported.
The disturbing incident, which was caught on video and spread rapidly across social media, showed the young man dancing half-naked on top of the moving vehicle as it sped down a highway.
Moments later, that so-called “fun” turned into a nightmare.
According to reports, 24-year-old driver Riley Rhoades was later arrested for driving while intoxicated (DWI) and crashed into another vehicle, sending the 22-year-old flying off the Jeep and onto the pavement, where he suffered catastrophic head injuries.
