Sheridan Gorman, an 18-year-old college student at Loyola University in Chicago, was shot dead by an illegal alien. The networks hate reporting on crime committed by illegal immigrants. They would insist it’s atypical. News loses to narrative, and that narrative is Trump is ruining everything.

MRC Director of Media Analysis Geoff Dickens and NewsBusters Associate Editor Nick Fondacaro joined the show to discuss the latest patterns in media bias, by downplaying or omission. Geoff has been working on their lack of interest in the SAVE Act, which is only up to four minutes, and mostly because President Trump has thrown it into the shutdown mix. 

Managing editor Curtis Houck found the networks weren’t motivated to cover Sheridan Gorman’s death. CBS led with 2 minutes, followed by ABC at 79 seconds, NBC at 23 seconds. Searching for it on PBS or NPR found nothing.

It’s like the bus-stop stabbing death of Stephanie Minter in Fairfax County, Virginia by Abdul Jalloh, an illegal alien with more than 30 arrests. We didn’t find that on the networks (including NPR). 

You could get a hint of why these migrant crimes don’t draw coverage. PBS just aired a documentary called White With Fear claiming conservatives exploit fear of a “brown menace” to gain power. Stories of crimes by illegal migrants are seen as racist or too pro-Trump to cover. 

The media’s advocacy for illegal aliens is also coming through during coverage of the DHS shutdown by the Democrats. The percentage of TV news stories mentioning the Democrats are holding up funding to gain “reforms” on immigration is actually declining as the coverage ramps up.

The media are also trying to impair Trump in coverage of the Iran war, insisting that somehow the United States is losing. The Economist magazine out of Britain has a cover that reads “Advantage Iran.” Jon Levine tweeted “The Economist has become the Jim Cramer of foreign policy takes.” It’s always wrong, in other words. 

The two oldest cast member of ABC’s The View, moderator Whoopi Goldberg (70) and Joy Behar (83) tapped into that anti-military hatred on Wednesday. While Joy was adamant that the U.S. military had “accomplished” nothing in Iran, Whoopi suggested all they were doing was dying and lectured Secretary of War Pete Hegseth about what it meant to be a soldier, without ever serving herself.

President Trump promises that the war in Iran will be ending soon, but what never ends is the incessant mockery of Trump on late-night comedy shows. In the war’s third week, our comedy counter Alex Christy found 97 percent of their jokes about the war in Iran were about our side, not Iran. President Trump was once again the most-joked individual with 78. None of their Iran jokes was about a Democrat.

That’s why movie star Vince Vaughn said on Theo Von’s podcast that these shows are losing their audience to podcasters:  “People just rejected it, because it didn’t feel authentic, it felt like they had an agenda.  It’s not being funny, and it started feeling like I was in… a class I didn’t want to take, do you know what I mean? I’m getting scolded!”

It’s an easy joke about the media to claim that absolutely everything President Trump does is a “distraction from the Epstein files.” CNN host Laura Coates even claimed the annual State of the Union speech was planned as a distraction from Epstein. The late-night comedians underline this theme, too – in recent days about the war in Iran.

Even a focus on Bill Clinton’s friendship with Epstein was described as a distraction from Trump’s problem. Our video editor Bill D’Agostino made a video that underlines how journalists and comedians described nearly everything that happened as a “distraction,” even if it was something Trump did on a very regular basis – like criticizing and fighting with liberal reporters.

Morning Joe co-host Joe Scarborough continued his crusade to persuade viewers they had only Republicans to blame for the partial government shutdown and ensuing TSA problems. On Thursday’s edition of the MS NOW’s liberal morning show, Scarborough, once again, ignored the cause of the shutdown was Democrat wish of policy change and ICE reforms, which had led to much of DHS being defunded.

Later in the show, after he and his co-host Mika Brzezinski called the SAVE America Act the “rig the elections act,” Scarborough mentioned the DHS shutdown again and said the show didn’t think “you’re stupid” unlike other “programs.”

As he has been for the past week, Scarborough solely placed blame on Republicans for the TSA issues at airports. He stated, “Democrats keep bringing it to the bill to get rid of this problem, and Republicans keep making this problem worse at the very time.”

Scarborough then said Americans were not “too dumb to forget what happened on 9//11 and understand that Iran has promised that they’re going to strike America.”

At this point, Scarborough went into a rage and yelled at Republicans for being “stupid,” with an occasional Brzezinski chime in to keep him on track [Click “expand”]: 

SCARBOROUGH: And we are letting down our line of defenses when Republicans have a chance every day, every day to get the TSA agents paid! Every day! You’re so stupid.

BRZEZINSKI: It’s dangerous too. 

SCARBOROUGH: First of all, it’s dangerous. But politically, you’re so stupid. You’re so stupid to not force this through and pay our TSA agents.

I’m here to tell you, prevent a tragedy from happening. Pay these people, okay? Because guess what? We all – we all can go to the airport and come home. We’re fine, we’re fine. I was happy to see Mika. We’re fine. But TSA agents aren’t fine. (…)

Scarborough tried to calm himself down as he invoked John Lennon:

Yes is the answer, as John Lennon said. And you know that for sure. Can I just finish this top playing your mind games? I love that song. I want to bump out with it. 

But Republicans, please help yourself and save Americans. It’s that simple. They say yes, and guess what? The TSA agents get paid. These lines go away. And our security against Iranian terror threats, poof. Dissipate.

Ah yes, if everybody just said yes to everything, we’d live in paradise.

Totally, totally fine. And nobody yell at me. I’m just saying. I’m just reporting everybody. Don’t get crazy and pissed off when I say it. ICE agents were fine. They were helpful. That was just – no masks and, you know, nobody minded them being there.

Another co-host of the show, who happens to be his wife, with an intense hatred of ICE may not be as fine with him.

At the start of the 7 a.m. hour of the show, Scarborough and Brzezinski got into a deep conversation on the SAVE America Act, which they called the “rig the elections act.”

In that conversation, Scarborough brought up TSA again and said his viewers we’re smart enough to understand it’s all the Republicans fault:

It’s just – let’s not complicate this. I know a lot of you people watch programs that think you’re stupid, okay? We don’t think you’re stupid. We’re just going to tell you how it is. 

If Republicans had voted yes, if everybody said, “yeah, let’s pay our TSA agents,” TSA agents would be paid right now. It’s that simple. It really is.

There is a constant ignorance of the cause of the shutdown on Morning Joe. The viewers might not all be “stupid” but they are being misinformed.

SCARBOROUGH: And in a time of increased terror threats with Iran saying they’re going to strike against American targets globally with the FBI, a couple of months ago, firing the people who knew the most about terror threats from Iran, for whatever stupid reason that was. 

We are letting down our defenses at a time we should have double TSA agents, because Iran has been warning us for a decade that they – if we ever attack them, they would strike out against us domestically.

They would start blowing things up in America. And what the Republicans are doing right now, they’re voting no to paying TSA agents. They’re voting no to pay TSA agents. Let me say it ten times. Democrats keep bringing it to the bill to get rid of this problem, and Republicans keep making this problem worse at the very time we need more TSA agents and not less.

And this is what’s happening while we’re going to war in Iran, while people are waiting three, four hours in line, and they’re three or four TSA agents, and Iran is threatening terror attacks against America, and these Americans are not too old or not too dumb to forget what happened on 9/11, and understand that Iran has promised that they’re going to strike America.

SCARBOROUGH: By the way, I saw the ICE agents yesterday. Totally fine.

SCARBOROUGH: And ten times they voted not to pay our TSA agents. Ten times, Wilie. They had a chance to avert a major security crisis that’s coming from Iran now. Certainly our airports, this will be seen as a soft target when you have, what I saw yesterday, four TSA agents handling a line with – that went for three hours and Republicans keep voting no.

I want to say it again. Republicans keep voting no. Republicans keep making this happen because they keep voting no for TSA funding.

It’s just – let’s not complicate this. I know a lot of you people watch programs that think you’re stupid, okay? We don’t think you’re stupid. We’re just going to tell you how it is. 

If Republicans had voted yes, if everybody said, “yeah, let’s pay our TSA agents,” TSA agents would be paid right now. It’s that simple. It really is.

I mean, is Donald Trump going to veto it? If he does, then it’ll be Donald Trump. See, that’s what it is. They don’t want Donald Trump to be exposed as being the guy that vetoes a bill that would pay our TSA agents. So they’re trying to protect him from being embarrassed. And what’s he doing this morning? He’s saying, let’s pass the rig the elections act, an act that’s not about voter id because I support voter ID.

BRZEZINSKI: Not about saving America.

SCARBOROUGH: I support voter ID. 85 percent of Americans support a voter ID. Bring your driver’s license or some other ID to vote. It makes good sense to me. It always has. But that’s not what this bill is. This bill actually stops the type of voting that the president and his own family use, and also disallows 45 states driver’s licenses from being used as voter ID. So it’s to rig the election. It’s plain and simple. And they’re holding our TSA agent salaries hostage, Willie. (…).

News outlets in Mexico are claiming that a group of soldiers from the U.S. Army crossed into Mexico while they were reinforcing the border fence. The issue sparked some tensions when Mexican military forces asked them to leave, but the troops stayed in their spot until they finished their task.

President Donald Trump said Thursday that the Iranian regime has “been just beat to s—” and is now “begging to make a deal” to end the conflict in the Middle East.
“The reason they want to make a deal is they have been just beat to s—,” Trump told reporters during a cabinet meeting at the White House.

“They are begging to make a deal, not me, they’re begging to make a deal,” the president said of the regime. “And anybody that saw what was happening over there would understand why they want to make a deal … I don’t know if we’ll be able to do that. I don’t know if we’re willing to do that. They should’ve done that four weeks ago.”

The president also disclosed that Iran permitted several commercial vessels to sail through the Strait of Hormuz earlier this week as a sign of good faith during diplomatic talks.
“They said, ‘To show you the fact that we’re real and solid and we’re there, we’re going to let you have eight boats of oil,'” Trump said of the private discussions between his team and regime representatives. Ten oil tankers in total ultimately made their way through the contested commercial shipping lane this week, Trump said.
He added that U.S. operations have afforded Iran the opportunity to “permanently abandon their nuclear ambitions and chart a new path forward.” But if Tehran does not accept the United States’ terms, “we’re their worst nightmare.”

The president noted that U.S. military operations were initially expected to last “four to six weeks” but are now “way ahead of schedule” after the United States destroyed much of the Islamic Republic’s land, air, and sea capabilities. At least 154 Iranian ships “are resting very nicely at the bottom of the sea” and Tehran’s air force is in ruins, Trump said.
“The Iranian regime is now admitting to itself that they have been decisively defeated,” the president added. “They’re talking to us because they’ve got a disaster on their hands. They’re defeated. They can’t make a comeback.”

The cabinet meeting came after a Thursday morning Truth Social post in which the president said the regime has a limited amount of time to review his ceasefire offer.
“They publicly state that they are only ‘looking at our proposal,'” he wrote. “WRONG!!! They better get serious soon, before it is too late, because once that happens, there is NO TURNING BACK, and it won’t be pretty!”
Iran lost another of its top naval commanders overnight, when an Israeli airstrike eliminated Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy (IRGC-N) leader Admiral Alireza Tangsiri. U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed Tangsiri’s death just before Trump spoke at the White House.
“Since the commencement of Operation Epic Fury, 92 percent of the large ships in the Iranian Navy have been eliminated,” CENTCOM chief Brad Cooper said in a statement. “As a result, IRGC-N has completely lost their ability to project power in the Middle East or around the world. Now, with the loss of their long-time leader, the IRGC-N is on an irreversible decline.”

While it is unclear what Iranian representatives are saying behind closed doors, the regime has publicly maintained that no ceasefire is on the table even as it takes mounting military losses.
“Iran does not accept a ceasefire,” a senior Islamic Republic leader told the state-run Fars News Agency on Wednesday. “Basically, it is not logical to enter into such a process with those who violate the agreement.”
Tehran has floated its own version of a deal that is drastically different from Trump’s. The regime demands a “guarantee” that “war will not recur” and that the United States shutter all its military bases in the region. It also listed reparations for regime infrastructure destroyed in the engagement and control of the Strait of Hormuz.
The U.S. proposal, by contrast, is similar to the conditions set for negotiations prior to Operation Epic Fury. Iran would have to dismantle its nuclear facilities in Natanz, Isfahan, and Fordow, as well as significantly scale back its ballistic missile program. Tehran would also have to guarantee safe passage for commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
Steve Witkoff, Trump’s lead negotiator, said he is now working to convince Tehran “that this is the inflection point with no good alternatives for them other than more death and destruction.”
“We have strong signs that this is a possibility,” Witkoff said without discussing specific terms. “If the deal happens, it will be great for the country of Iran.”
