DHS Celebrates 2 Million Illegals Leaving the Country Since January: โThe Numbers Donโt Lieโ
Two million illegal immigrants have left the country since President Donald Trump took office, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
The figure includes about 1.6 million illegal immigrants who voluntarily self-deported and more than 400,000 who were deported, according to a news release.
The Department of Homeland Security is on track to total 600,000 deportations during Trumpโs first year back in office, the release said.
โThe numbers donโt lie: 2 million illegal aliens have been removed or self-deported in just 250 days โ proving that President Trumpโs policies and Secretary Noemโs leadership are working and making American communities safe,โ Assistant Homeland Security Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said.
โRamped-up immigration enforcement targeting the worst of the worst is removing more and more criminal illegal aliens off our streets every day and is sending a clear message to anyone else in this country illegally: Self-deport or we will arrest and deport you,โ she said.
The release noted that for four months in a row, United States Customs and Border Protection โhas released zero illegal aliens into the country.โ
The release cited a United Nations report saying there had been a 97 percent reduction in illegal immigrants heading to the U.S. from Central America, with 49 percent of illegal immigrants who gave up hope of slipping across the border citing Trumpโs policies as the reason for doing so.
The job has not been easy, as illustrated Monday when two illegal immigrants tried to break free after one tried to choke a female Border Patrol agent, according to the New York Post.
Juan Carmen Padron Mendez, 29, and Juan Carlos Padron Barron, 23, had been detained and were on their way to custody when Mendez allegedly put his hands around the female agentโs neck as she was stopped at a red light.
Mendez and Barron were soon arrested and now face charges of assault, resisting arrest, and impeding a federal officer.
โThe Southern District of Texas has zero tolerance for those who assault law enforcement,โ U.S. Attorney Nicholas Ganjei said.
โLet it be known: if you lay a hand on an officer, deputy or federal agent, SDTX will do whatever it can to put you in federal prison for as long as the law will allow,โ Ganjei said. โYouโve been warned.โ
Political headwinds also make the job of deporting illegal immigrants more difficult.
Last week, the Department of Homeland Security continued to press California, Illinois, and New York to detain criminal illegal immigrants, according to a separate news release.
Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons had asked the states to honor ICE detainers on criminal illegal immigrants, only to have Illinois and New York reject the notion while California could not be bothered to reply.
Illinois refused to even receive a follow-up letter saying ICE will โpursue all appropriate measures to end their inadvisable and irresponsible obstruction of the apprehension and removal of criminal illegal aliens,โ the release said.
โThese dangerous sanctuary policies, often combined with cashless bail for serious crimes, allow criminal illegal aliens to be released back into American communities โ threatening the American peopleโs lives and wellbeing,โ McLaughlin said.
โICE detainers ask for something very simple: To notify ICE when criminal illegal aliens are released from jail or prison, to ensure that they go into ICE custody before they are released back onto our streets. These sanctuary state politicians should do the right thing and side with law-abiding Americans over criminal illegal aliens,โ she added.

Classic Star Trek Producer Says Shorter, Modern Shows Are ‘Tinder Relationships,’ Calls for ‘Longer, More Sustained’ Seasons
A key figure behind Star Trek’s classic era has likened the shortened seasons of modern TV to the equivalent of a Tinder relationship, and said he hoped the sci-fi franchise would return to 22-episode seasons.
Speaking at STLV: Trek to Vegas convention, as reported by TrekMovie, veteran writer and producer Brannon Braga said TV simply didn’t have the same “kind of relationship” with fans as it once did, back when he worked on various Star Trek series.
Braga wrote Star Trek movies Generations and First Contact, and served as a producer on both Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Voyager, before creating Star Trek: Enterprise. Across the three series, he wrote more than 100 episodes โ though he has not contributed to the franchise’s modern era.
“I look at this audience, and I think you’re here because you had a long-term relationship with Voyager,” Braga said during a convention panel. “Voyager was 26 episodes a year. Some of you probably keep it on because it’s cozy, and that’s the kind of relationship you had. A lot of shows now are Tinder relationships โ eight episodes every two years, I don’t think so. That’s not going to be something you necessarily pass on to your kids. And I think that’s a loss.”
While Braga doesn’t name any series in particular, it’s interesting to look at Star Trek’s streaming era and see how it compares to the 22-episode seasons of old.
Star Trek: Discovery launched in September 2017 with a 15-episode season, followed by a second run of 14 episodes beginning in January 2019. It ran annual seasons of increasingly shortened length throughout the next few years, before a gap of two years for its 10-episode fifth and final season in 2024.
Star Trek Picard aired three 10-episode seasons over four years, and Strange New Worlds has also aired three 10-episode seasons to date over the same time period, with a two-year wait for the show’s latest run. A fifth and final season of just six episodes will cap the series off, and is due to begin filming next year.
10 episodes is the franchise’s new norm (the upcoming debut season of Starfleet Academy will also be this length), but this is increasingly the standard among TV shows as a whole, as episode budgets rise and audiences demand a higher quality overall.
“It’s a new paradigm,” Braga concluded. “And some shows are still doing [long seasons]… NCIS does like 22 [episodes]. But I really don’t know what’s in store for the future of Star Trek, the TV franchise anyway. But I hope, I hope that eventually they get back to a longer, more sustained season.”
Exactly when that might happen, however, seems uncertain. Earlier this month, actress Rebecca Romijn said that even gaining a six-episode final season for the hugely popular Strange New Worlds had involved something of a “negotiation” with production company Paramount, which had initially wanted to wrap up the series with a shorter TV movie instead.

RGG Studio Direct 2025 Confirms Yakuza Kiwami 3 Remake, Spinoff Dark Ties, and More โ Here’s Everything Announced
Overnight, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio director and executive producer Masayoshi Yokoyama introduced RGG Direct 2025, a livestream chiefly dedicated to a remake of the previously leaked Yakuza 3, which will be released alongside the spin-off game, Dark Ties.
Yakuza 3 was released in 2009 โ that’s over 15(!) years ago now โ and Yokoyama said this remake “is the best iteration of the original game, Yakuza Kiwami 3.” Dark Ties, however, is a “new, never-before-seen story,” which means this essentially bundles two games in one package.
“Like a Dragon & Yakuza series will celebrate its 20th anniversary on December 8 of this year,” the team said. “We sincerely appreciate your continued support of RGG Studio.”
Yakuza Kiwami 3 and Dark Ties
“We’re developing [Yakuza Kiwami 3 and Dark Ties] based on the concept ‘a legend is reborn and a new legacy begins,'” Yokoyama added, after which chief producer Hiroyuki Sakamoto said that both Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami 2 “directly link to this title.” Producer/director Ryosuke Horii introduced details about the upcoming game, which is out in February 2026.
“[Kiwami 3] is a total remake of 2009’s Yakuza 3,” he explained. “We’ve rebuilt it from the ground up using the latest technology developed by our talented staff. The game has evolved enormously with loads of new cutscenes and newly added game elements. I can proudly say that we’re delivering a game worthy of the Kiwami title.”
We had a good time with the original, awarding it 8.5/10 back in 2010, but while the remake follows Yakuza 3’s story, RGG has added cutscenes “that we weren’t able to fully deliver before.”
“Whether it’s Kiryu and his pal Rikiya Shimabukuro, or enemies like Mine, Kanda, and Hamazaki, we’ve further detailed their thoughts and actions to better depict the human condition and connection,” Horii added.
Additional scenes are not the only new things coming to the game, either. Players can expect re-recorded voice lines as well as brand new ones, and “overhauled” animations, with some scenes “changed drastically with different developments and outcomes.”
“In order to greatly outdo ourselves and make a game that everyone will love, we didn’t take the safe, defensive route by glorifying the past with a simple remake, but instead took a more aggressive approach to make Yakuza Kiwami 3,” Horii said.
๐A LEGEND IS REBORN AND A NEW LEGACY BEGINS๐
Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties releases Feb 12, 2026 on PlayStationยฎ5, PlayStationยฎ4, Nintendo Switchโข 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam).
๐Digital pre-orders now live (link in bio)! Physical to follow in coming days.#YakuzaKiwami3โฆ pic.twitter.com/hhIei4IUYvโ RGG Studio | Like a Dragon & Yakuza Series (@RGGStudio) September 24, 2025
The battle system has also been reworked so you can expect two kinds of battle style, Dragon of the Dojima: Kiwami and a brand new battle style, Ryukyu, which is inspired by generational Okinawan martial arts.
“For beyond a remake, Yakuza Kiwami 3 is a brand new title, vastly evolved from the original,” Horii added, after which Sakamoto explained the new Dark Ties story sees Yoshitaka Mine โ chairman of the Hakuho Clan and a “popular character from the series” โ as protagonist for the first time, joining the yakuza to “pursue unwavering bonds.”
Essentially a spinoff, Dark Ties is an action-adventure game that depicts the events leading up to Yakuza 3. It’s a story of the “gritty reality of human relationships in the criminal underworld,” with a “refined but cool” combat style centered around boxing.
Yakuza Kiwami 3 and Dark Ties are out on February 12, 2026. You can pre-order now.
Yakuza Kiwami 1 and Yakuza Kiwami 2
Meanwhile, both Yakuza Kiwami 1 and Yakuza Kiwami 2 are coming to Nintendo Switch 2, with both physical and digital editions available, on November 13, 2025.
They’re also coming to PC via Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series X and S, albeit a little later on December 8, 2025.
Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut
Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut is already available on Nintendo Switch 2, but it’s now also coming to PC via Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series X and S on December 8, 2025. Again, it’ll available both digitally and physically.
Live-action Yakuza 3
Details were slim here, admittedly, but a live-action production featuring Kazuma Kiryu is also on the way. The team working on this previously worked on one of Japan’s most popular crime series, Nihon Touitsu.
“Through the collaboration of the game and the live-action drama themed around the underworld, we’re creating a work to make Yakuza even more accessible to those unfamiliar with the series,” Yokoyama explained, adding that multilingual localization will also be available “to make this more accessible for those of you around the world.”
Stranger Than Heaven
To close out the livestream, fans were treated to a brief behind-the-scenes snippet of Stranger Than Heaven, which is also in development. We don’t get to see much, unfortunately โ the video is only a couple of minutes long โ but the team is making good progress, as showcased by a BTS peek at programming, mocapping, and more.
New Virtua Fighter Project
I’m afraid I have nothing additional to report here other than to reiterate that Yokoyama said a “new Virtua Fighter project” was on the way. Watch this space…

A new billโs bid to bring better sunscreens
The sunscreenย market in the United States has remained largely stagnant for the past 25 years, as many skincare and cosmetic companies have failed to get new active ingredients approved. Legislation recently introduced in theย House of Representativesย and theย Senateย seeks to change that.
Both versions of the bill, called the SAFE Sunscreen Standards Act, were introduced by a bipartisan group of lawmakers who say that consumers need more effective sunscreens toย help prevent skin cancer.
In contrast to some European and Asian countries, sunscreens in the U.S. are regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as over-the-counter drugs instead of cosmetics, meaning they must fulfill a long list of requirements to obtain approval. This bottleneck has led to aย lagging American marketย that offers limited options.
โThe U.S. has a lot less choice,โ said Steve Xu, a dermatologist and medical director of the Querrey Simpson Institute for Bioelectronics at Northwestern University. โIt has a lot less products because of the increased requirements that are necessary before a sunscreen can be sold.โ
To modernize the market, the new bill aims to change some requirements, such as encouraging alternatives to animal testing, and ease an approval process that many experts call overly restrictive. Such a revamp could potentially allow better sunscreen options to enter the market, which proponents say may boost use among populations with lower uptake, including people withย darker skin. Itโs not clear whether leadership at the Department of Health and Human Services will be supportive; Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.โs โMake America Healthy Againโ initiative has been associated with unfoundedย skepticismย andย misinformation around some sunscreen ingredients.
The legislation, if passed, could represent a modest, but meaningful change in how individuals can protect themselves from skin damage and cancer, said Xu. โMore choice, more clarity on regulation โ these are things that are good, incremental steps forward.โ
More thanย 210,000 new skin cancer cases areย expectedย to be diagnosed in the U.S. this year, a number that has beenย on the rise. Sun-safe practices, including the use of sunscreens, have been an important tool in counteracting that increase.
Sunscreens work to block sun damage through ultraviolet, or UV, filters, and generally fall into two categories: Mineral sunscreens are made out of particles of inorganic materials โ zinc oxide or titanium dioxide โ while chemical sunscreens are made from organic molecules. Both types of filters protect the skin by absorbing UV rays and converting the energy to heat, while mineral sunscreens alsoย scatterย some UV light. Active ingredients used in both types have been regulated as drugs, which the FDA categorizes as products โintended for use in the diagnosis, cure, mitigation, treatment or prevention of diseaseโ or โaffect the structure or any function of the body of man or other animals.โ
โMore choice, more clarity on regulation โ these are things that are good, incremental steps forward.โ
The FDA drug approval process can be costly and lengthy, though. For example, DSM-Firmenich, a nutrition and health company based in Switzerland and the Netherlands that makes sunscreens, has spentย 20 years and $18 millionย trying unsuccessfully to get FDA approval for bemotrizinol, an ingredient that has long been available in European sunscreens and found to be safe andย effective. And even though U.S. sunscreens have a more rigorous approval process, one smallย 2017 studyย found that they may actually be less effective at blocking certain UV rays by European Union standards.
The lack of progress has exasperated many doctors, who have been waiting for improved sunscreens to recommend to their patients. โIโm quite familiar and somewhat frustrated by the slow pace of the movement,โ said Henry Lim, a dermatologist at Henry Ford Health, a health care system based in Detroit.
While the FDA should ensure that sunscreens are safe, some of their requirements are too strict, said Adam Friedman, a dermatologist at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Many countries in Europe, for example, donโt require investments into animal testing, but their products have not been found to compromise consumer safety.
โThere are so many papers out there, huge numbers of people and subjects over the years, showing that sunscreen is safe and effective,โ said Friedman, who wrote a letter in support of the House bill to the Committee on Energy and Commerce, which is currently reviewing the legislation. โBut, according to FDA, thatโs not sufficient.โ
The Environmental Working Group, an activist organization that advocates for safe sunscreens,ย acknowledges that the FDAโs processย has โslowed the approval of new ingredients that may be protective and safer.โ They insist, though, that the problem would be solved, in part, by providing more funds for FDA. And, in a Julyย statement, the EWG said that the bill โwould lower the bar for sunscreen safety by allowing โreal world evidenceโ and marketing history that will not address concerns posed by the chronic risks posed by sunscreen chemicals.โ (Friedman noted, however, that the chronic risks that people and organizations like EWGย typicallyย citeย โ such as the potential for the ingredient oxybenzone to disrupt hormones โ are based on preliminary studies that donโt reflectย real-worldย circumstances.)
โThere are so many papers out there, huge numbers of people and subjects over the years, showing that sunscreen is safe and effective.โ
One of the biggest changes the bill proposes is the type of data the FDA will accept for its review process. The agency currently requires that companies test products on animals, but for many companies, particularly those in Europe, such testing is not practical, is discouraged, or is even outright banned. The bill would allow the FDA to consider other data, including real-world evidence and observational studies.
Animal testing was โa gold standard 25 years ago, but science has changed since then,โ said Lim. โThere are many other in vitro methods that would be just as reliable, as reproducible.โ Meanwhile, there are years of real-world data on safety and effectiveness from other countries. The hope is that such data could be used in the FDA review process.
In response to questions from Undark, including if the FDA would be open to the changes, an email from the agency stated that the โFDA is unable to comment on pending or proposed legislation.โ
Beyond expandingย product variety for all consumers, Xu pointed out, newer formulations could help one group that has disproportionately low sunscreen uptake: people of color. Aย 2024 surveyย found that 25 percent of individuals with darker skin used sunscreen daily compared to 31 percent of White individuals even though they expressed a willingness to use it.
One reason for the low uptake is that some active ingredients used in mineral sunscreens, such as zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, leave a white cast on darker skin, which 25 percent of people of color reported as a deterrent to using sunscreen (compared to only 7 percent of White individuals). In his research, Xu found that people with darker skin would like more options for sheer and tinted sunscreens, which tend to be more costly,ย another 2024 studyย found.
Unappealing formulations deter the population-at-large as well. Aย 2020 surveyย conducted in Germany found that 36 percent of surveyed participants donโt use sunscreen because they find it too greasy or sticky. โIf itโs thick and goopy and itโs bright white, youโre not going to have adherence,โ said Friedman. โSo, we need options that will fit everyoneโs needs.โ
The Senateโs Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee already voted to advance a legislation package that includes the SAFE Sunscreen Standards Act. In the House, the bill has been referred to the Committee on Energy and Commerce, which will review the legislation and make suggested amendments if necessary. โI think weโre going to know something one way or another end of September,โ Freidman said.
While many experts are optimistic about the legislation passing, they are still cautious about its potential impact. โI donโt think itโs going to be how weโre going to win the war on skin cancer,โ said Xu. That would require more dermatologists, early cancer detection, increased public awareness, and a host of sun protecting strategies, including protective clothing.
But if the legislation passes, it could provide consumers with other tools to protect themselves from harmful UV radiation that the U.S. has lacked for the last 25 years, he added: โItโs a step in the right direction.โ
