DOJ Launches Investigation into Sexual Assault Allegations Against Eric Swalwell
The U.S. Department of Justice has opened a criminal investigation into multiple sexual assault and misconduct allegations against former Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.), federal officials confirmed Thursday, marking the latest escalation in a scandal that has already forced the longtime congressman to resign from the House and suspend his bid for California governor.
Swalwell, who represented California’s 14th District since 2013, stepped down from Congress on Tuesday amid bipartisan pressure and a House Ethics Committee probe into claims that he engaged in sexual misconduct, including toward a staffer under his supervision. The Ethics review is expected to close following his resignation, as the panel’s jurisdiction is limited to current members.
The DOJ’s involvement adds a federal layer to ongoing local probes. The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office is investigating an alleged 2024 sexual assault in a New York City hotel room involving a former staffer, while the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and District Attorney’s Office have opened inquiries into a separate 2018 claim. Prosecutors have been assigned to review evidence in the LA case.
The allegations first gained widespread attention last week when the San Francisco Chronicle and CNN reported claims from a former staffer and three other women. The former aide accused Swalwell of sexually assaulting her on two occasions: once in 2019 while she was employed by him, and again in April 2024 after a gala event in New York, where she said she was too intoxicated to consent and attempted to refuse. Three additional women described unwanted explicit messages, unsolicited nude photos, and harassment, some occurring during his gubernatorial campaign.
On Tuesday, a fifth woman, Lonna Drewes – a Beverly Hills-based former model and fashion software entrepreneur – held a news conference to detail her accusations. Drewes alleged that in July 2018, after meeting Swalwell socially and believing they were developing a friendship, he invited her to his West Hollywood hotel room under the pretense of picking up papers. She claimed he drugged her drink, raped her, and choked her until she lost consciousness. Drewes said she had only one glass of wine that evening and provided authorities with journal entries, texts, and photos as evidence. She has since reported the incident to law enforcement and stands with the other accusers.
Swalwell has categorically denied all allegations of non-consensual or illegal conduct. His attorney called the claims “false, fabricated and deeply offensive.” In a statement announcing his resignation, Swalwell acknowledged “mistakes in judgment” from his past but maintained that no laws or House rules were violated. He said he would fight the accusations while stepping aside to avoid distracting from his constituents’ needs.
Political Fallout and Special Election
The swift collapse of Swalwell’s political ambitions stunned observers. He had been viewed as a frontrunner in the race to succeed term-limited Gov. Gavin Newsom. He suspended his gubernatorial campaign on Sunday as the allegations mounted and bipartisan calls for his resignation or expulsion grew. Democrats, including House leaders, distanced themselves, while some Republicans pushed for an immediate expulsion vote.
Newsom has scheduled a special election to fill Swalwell’s seat: a primary on June 16 and general election on August 18, 2026. The resignation was formally read into the House record this week.

A suspect identified as Oliver Valle-Ramos was detained by a local resident after allegedly attempting to break into a home and then targeting vehicles at a nearby business.
He was then handed over to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department. Instead of being locked up… he was released.
Days later, the same man walked into a local massage parlor, exposed himself, viciously assaulted a woman, and attempted to rape her.
The Gateway Pundit has obtained the shocking court documents proving it all.
According to the Probable Cause Statement and Felony Complaint, Oliver Valle-Ramos, who has no listed address, is charged with Attempted Rape in the First Degree, Sexual Misconduct in the First Degree, Assault in the Second Degree, and Stealing.
The horrific details, straight from the Jefferson County Prosecutor’s filing:
“Valle-Ramos entered the business claiming neck pain and requested a massage but admitted he had no money to pay. After the massage began, he stood up, pulled down his pants, exposed his genitals, and demanded vaginal intercourse.
When the victim refused, he swept her leg, forced her to the ground, struck her multiple times in the face with an open hand (causing blood from her nose, a swollen upper lip, lacerations inside her lip, and a broken right pinky finger), forcibly pulled down her pants, positioned himself on top of her, and attempted to penetrate.
He was unable to achieve an erection. The victim’s husband walked in and found him on top of her. Valle-Ramos later admitted to police his actions were wrong.”
A judge has now ordered him held without bond as a danger to the community and a flight risk.
But this horror was completely preventable.

‘Great nations build beautiful structures’: Commission advances plan for Trump’s 250-foot-tall Triumphal Arch
Interior Secretary Doug Burgum formally introduced the United States Triumphal Arch project before the Commission of Fine Arts (CFA) and a packed hearing room. The Department of the Interior, through the National Park Service, would oversee the arch’s construction and maintenance. Aimed for a July 2028 completion, the reportedly $15 million project would celebrate, according to Burgum, “American freedom, American unity, American strength and the American dream.”
Planned to be built within an empty traffic circle of an artificial island on the Virginia side of the Potomac River, the towering arch would greet anyone crossing the Memorial Bridge between Washington’s Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery. The arch as planned would be more than twice the height of the 99-foot-tall Lincoln Memorial, but about half the height of the roughly 555-foot Washington Monument, not considering changes in elevation.
The crowning 60-foot Lady Liberty, as well as the smaller eagles and lions, would be plated in 24-carat gold. Likewise, large gold lettering would display iconic phrases from the Pledge of Allegiance. While vehicular traffic would navigate the Circle as presently situated, pedestrians would be able to enter the structure and ascend to an observation deck for presumably exclusive views of the capital.
“Carefully designed, thoughtfully placed, such a structure will enrich Washington’s historic fabric, adding a new chapter to the infinitely rich history of our nation’s capital,” Burgum predicted.
“Great nations build beautiful structures and works of art that cultivate national pride and love of country,” he continued. “In this tradition, the United States Triumphal Arch will be a project of which all Americans will be proud.”
Taking over when Burgum departed for Capitol Hill, Harrison Designs principal architect Nicolas Charbonneau proceeded to detail additional elements for the Commission and respond to their inquiries.
Trump-appointed Chairman Rodney Mims Cook Jr. initially asked about the pilings and foundation infrastructure to support the massive structure and prevent it from sinking into the ground of Columbia Island.
“This is personal for the president,” Cook said.
Vice Chairman James McCreary II expressed accessibility concerns related to subterranean elements of the design, the potential for the City to obstruct the arch with barricades and the balance between pedestrian and vehicular traffic flows.
“I’m wondering if this arch doesn’t better participate in the language of Washington, D.C.’s monumental architecture, because without it, rather than with it,” he also observed. “And I do use that word intentionally, ‘participate in,’ because I think that this arch does participate in the monumental form. This arch does contribute to it, it extends it, and it will become part of the federal enclave, it will become part of Washington’s great memorial population, if you will.”
Both Cook and McCreary also questioned if the sculptures were necessary, with the latter noting lions are not native to North America.
McCreary declined to comment to the Daily Caller News Foundation.
Just under 1,000 public comments from individuals and preservation organizations had been submitted to CFA for formal consideration, Secretary Thomas Luebke reported. All were reportedly in opposition to the project, citing concerns with its scale, cost, supposed egotistical intent and perceived contrast with the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery.
Despite a packed room, however, there were no disruptions during the presentation, though a notable security presence also ensured order. A small protest outside CFA’s office at the National Building Museum preceded the meeting.
H. Edward Phillips III, an attorney from Tennessee, was the only member of the public to speak in support of the arch. He praised the symbolism the project would exhibit connecting the union’s capital to the South in the aftermath of the Civil War, noting how it would touch the veterans of his family.
“I’ll look at their service and I know that it should be honored and I don’t see this as offensive,” he testified.
Phillips also echoed Cook’s unifying characterization that “the binding of the wound of this nation, that bridge and keeping that connection between those two structures is paramount in what you are doing.”
“It’s an entrance into Arlington and ‘from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion— that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain, that this nation under God shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people, by the people, for the people shall not perish from the earth,’” Cook concluded, his voice breaking at the end, quoting President Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address. “This is really important to all of us and we have to get this right.”
The commissioners then voted unanimously to approve the concept designs; a final vote is anticipated for its May 21 meeting. The Commission then moved to consider proposals for a new White House visitor screening center and an external renovation of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building adjacent to the Executive Mansion.
“It’s quite beautiful, as you can see. And this monumental arc will beam at 250 feet tall in honor of 250 years,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters at a Wednesday press briefing.
“Long after everyone in this room is gone, our children and grandchildren will remain inspired by this national Monument,” she concluded. “Beginning construction this year on the architectural arc is a fitting way to commemorate the 250th anniversary of American independence. Great nations build beautiful structures that cultivate national pride and love of country, and this Triumphal Arc should be a project that all Americans of all political persuasions can support because it’s a monument for every American to celebrate 250 years of our nation’s proud history.”
Trump teased the arch project a week before the East Wing of the White House was demolished in October to make way for a 89,000-square-foot modernization project featuring a new state ballroom.
The president later promised the project would be create the “GREATEST and MOST BEAUTIFUL Triumphal Arch, anywhere in the World.”
“The one that people know mostly is the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, France, and, we’re gonna top it by, I think, a lot,” Trump remarked on Dec. 14. “The only thing they have is history. You know, 1860 is something I always say the one thing you can’t compete with, but eventually we’ll have that history too. But we’re gonna have something the likes of which has never been done before. And it’s been waiting for 200 years, literally.”
He then revealed Vince Haley, the director of the Domestic Policy Council, was placed in charge of the project.
The project is already the subject of litigation. Three veterans filed a lawsuit in February, later joined by Democrat lawmakers, arguing the arch “would dishonor their military and foreign service and the legacy of their comrades and other veterans buried at Arlington National Cemetery, and would degrade their personal experience when visiting Arlington Cemetery or traveling around Memorial Circle and on the Memorial Avenue Corridor.”
Established in 1910, the CFA is an independent federal agency charged with “giving expert advice to the President, the Congress and the federal and District of Columbia governments on matters of design and aesthetics, as they affect the federal interest and preserve the dignity of the nation’s capital.”
Trump fired the six commissioners appointed by former President Joe Biden in October 2025, replacing them with supporters to allow for a court-mandated review of the East Wing Modernization project. The Biden administration had moved to replace appointees from Trump’s first presidency before their terms were complete, citing diversity preferences.

Medicine Under Pressure: Gender Ideology in Clinics and Courts

Religion and science align on the fact that there are only two sexes. Genesis 1:27 states this plainly, and basic biology confirms that males have XY chromosomes and females have XX chromosomes. Despite this, making such statements publicly has become grounds for termination, expulsion, or lawsuits in the United States.
People and institutions have been sued for refusing to use preferred gender pronouns, with many conservatives arguing, and some courts agreeing, that compelled pronoun use violates the First Amendment.
The medical field has not been immune to gender ideology. The framing “assigned male at birth,” now standard in clinical settings, implies that biological sex is a subjective determination rather than an observed biological fact. More consequentially, courts and insurers have been drawn into litigation by biological males claiming they were denied female medical care, and by biological females identifying as male after being denied sex change procedures.
In Tovar v. Essentia Health, filed in 2016, Brittany Tovar, a nurse practitioner, and her teenage son Reid Olson, a biological female diagnosed with gender dysphoria, sued Essentia Health and its insurer HealthPartners for categorically excluding gender reassignment services from the employee health plan. The case proceeded on an ACA Section 1557 sex discrimination theory and settled out of court, with Essentia and HealthPartners agreeing to cover sex changes going forward.
In Flack v. Wisconsin Department of Health Services, filed in 2017, transgender Medicaid recipients challenged a 1997 Wisconsin regulation that categorically excluded coverage for surgical and hormone treatments for gender dysphoria. In August 2019, a federal judge granted summary judgment to the plaintiffs on all claims, permanently barring Wisconsin Medicaid from enforcing the exclusion. The state did not appeal, and a $2.2 million settlement followed.
In Minton v. Dignity Health, Evan Minton, who was born female but masqueraded as a male, was scheduled by her doctor for a hysterectomy at Mercy San Juan Medical Center, a Catholic hospital near Sacramento, in August 2016. Two days before the procedure, the doctor informed the hospital that she was transgender, and the hospital canceled the surgery. The hospital’s position was that the surgery was elective, part of a “transition,” and that, as a Catholic hospital, they could not participate in sex change operations.
The ACLU filed suit under California’s Unruh Civil Rights Act. The California Court of Appeals ruled in 2019 that Minton had standing to proceed, and in 2021, the U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear Dignity Health’s appeal, leaving that ruling intact.
In the end, the San Francisco County Superior Court entered the following judgment: “It is adjudged that plaintiff Minton, Evan take nothing from defendant Dignity Health dba Mercy San Juan Medical Center.” Minton lost. She was awarded nothing.
In Hammons v. University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center, the ruling went the other way when a federal court subsequently ruled that the hospital’s refusal to perform a hysterectomy on a woman who dressed as a man violated the Affordable Care Act.
On the insurance side, three transgender women filed a federal class action against Aetna in 2024, alleging the insurer covered facial reconstruction surgeries for non-transgender patients while classifying identical procedures for transgender patients as cosmetic. On March 8, 2026, a federal judge denied Aetna’s motion to dismiss and granted preliminary injunctive relief, requiring the insurer to reconsider coverage for two of the plaintiffs.
In Lange v. Houston County, Georgia, a biological male identifying as female, employed as a patrol officer, sued after being told the group insurance plan would not cover a sex change. The Eleventh Circuit affirmed the lower court’s ruling that the blanket exclusion constituted sex discrimination, holding that cost savings do not excuse discrimination under Title VII.
Separately, Skyler Jay, a woman pretending to be a man who appeared on Netflix’s Queer Eye, sued the University of Georgia over a similar health plan exclusion, while transgender government employees in Wisconsin and Iowa won comparable cases totaling $900,000 in jury awards.
California regulators fined Anthem Blue Cross $850,000, the largest penalty in state history for denying sex change procedures, and required the insurer to hire a dedicated case manager for patients with gender dysphoria, with over 150 denied claims sent back for review. From 2017 to 2020, Anthem had categorized more than 20 procedures, including facial implants, hair removal, voice therapy, and breast augmentation, as not medically necessary when sought by transgender patients, while covering the same procedures for non-transgender patients.
The legal framework underlying all of these cases has shifted repeatedly with each change in administration. The 2016 Obama administration rule interpreted Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act’s sex discrimination prohibition to include gender identity. The Trump administration eliminated that definition in June 2020, narrowing Section 1557 protections.
The Biden administration reversed course in May 2021 and codified gender identity protections in a May 2024 final rule, though that rule was quickly stayed by a federal court. On January 20, 2025, the current Trump administration rescinded Biden-era guidance, and on May 14, 2025, HHS formally rescinded the 2021 interpretation of Section 1557, returning to the position that sex discrimination protections do not extend to gender identity.
Jessica Simpson, a Canadian transgender activist who retains male genitalia, filed a complaint against a gynecologist who refused to treat her, claiming discrimination. The complaint was filed with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia in 2019, though no resolution has been publicly reported.
A report by Advocates for Trans Equality states, “If a transgender woman’s health care provider decides she needs a prostate exam, an insurance company can’t deny it because she is listed as female in her records. If her provider recommends gynecological care, coverage can’t be denied simply because she was identified as male at birth.”
It seems that it would just be a matter of time before someone is sued for denying a Pap smear to a male, and until insurance companies are forced to pay for testicular examinations for women.

CBS Continues to Milk Trump-Leo Beef, Knocks Hegseth for ‘Pharisees’
You can tell that the special military operation in Iran is going better than the Elitist Media would like because they are desperately seeking to talk about other things. And so they have settled on artificially extending the tiff between President Donald Trump and Pope Leo XIV. Additionally, there is an issue with Secretary of War Pete Hegseth’s use of the word “Pharisees”” to describe the media.
Correspondent Caitlin Huey-Burns was excited about being able to cover the latter. She even bragged about it on X:

DONALD TRUMP: But the pope has to understand Iran- very simple: Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon.
HUEY-BURNS: The Pope also called out those who use religion to justify war. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has cited biblical references several times during the conflict.
POPE LEO XIV: But woe to those who manipulate religion in the very name of God for their own military, economic, or political gain.
HUEY-BURNS: Today, Hegseth invoked the Bible to compare the press to Pharisees, often portrayed as enemies of Jesus.
PETE HEGSETH: The legacy, Trump-hating press: your politically motivated animus for President Trump nearly completely blinds you from the brilliance of our American warriors. The Pharisees scrutinized every good act in order to find a violation.
The description of the Pharisees as “enemies of Jesus” is a deceptive oversimplification within the context of the report, but is also an apt descriptor of the media- especially given their coverage of the Iran operation. The Pharisees were, above all else, legalistic religious leaders who were hung up on process.
Consider the words of Jesus in Matthew 23:23 and 24:
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.
This is what Hegseth alluded to then he referred to the media’s scrutiny of every good act. There is always the grinding and the straining, which is why the media are focused on Hegseth’s recitations of Scripture.
In the meantime, the Elitist Media found a way to add on another day to the controversy between Trump and Pope Leo. Anything to avoid reporting on the success of the Iran operation.

In a moment, we’ll have some news on the potential for peace in Iran but first, for another day, President Trump and Pope Leo trade comments over the legitimacy of that war in the first place. The Pope speaking in Cameroon on his tour of Africa, said, “the world is being ravaged by a handful of tyrants.” And then a few hours later on the lawn of the white house, the President responded, saying: “this is the real world, and the Pope needs to understand that.” We begin our coverage tonight with Caitlin Huey-Burns, who is with the President in Las Vegas this evening. Caitlin, good evening.
CAITLIN HUEY-BURNS: Good evening to you, Tony. Well, the President is trying to shift gears tonight, hitting the road to tout his economic policies ahead of the midterms as voters are feeling the pinch at the pump.
As President Trump headed to Las Vegas today to try and change the subject from war to the economy, he downplayed rising gas prices.
DONALD TRUMP: They’re not very high. If you look at what they were supposed to be in order to get rid of a nuclear weapon, with the danger that entails.
HUEY-BURNS: Gas prices have risen more than a dollar since the war started nearly seven weeks ago, and as Americans file their taxes this week, the President is touting the gains from his tax policies. But rising gas and food prices threaten to wipe out those savings.
CITIZEN: We saved a little bit of money on taxes, but we are paying so much more for groceries and for gas.
CITIZEN: It seems to take a long time, like, for the prices to come back down to even where they were at before this.
