TheStreet aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission. Why we love this dealOne of the most popular trends thus far in 2026 seems to be a return to a more analog existence. While some people revel in the most advanced tech they can find, like smart glasses and tablets, others long for a simpler time. That’s why traditional DVD players are soaring in popularity. In addition to basic nostalgia for hard copy media, this wave is bolstered by the ever-increasing cost of streaming services. If you want to be 100% certain that you can watch your favorite movie at any moment for free, there’s no better way to make it happen than with a DVD player. Luckily, we found one on sale at Amazon that has already sold over 7,000 times in the past month. The Megatek All-Region Compact DVD Player is available for only $40. If you’re hoping to join the legions of people in the technological downshift, then this is the place to start.Megatek All-Region Compact DVD Player, $40 at Amazon

Shop at AmazonWhy switch to physical media? While the past decade has seen a marked drop in hard copy media popularity, the past year has seen it experience a resurgence. According to The Washington Post, people in almost every age group are beginning to shift back toward tangible music and movies. It’s seen as a way to avoid title purges among streaming services as well as high monthly subscription fees. The Post adds that younger consumers are being drawn into this trend as well, but perhaps more for the vintage vibes than the financial considerations. Whether you’re a collector of antique tech or just hoping to unplug from the matrix, this DVD player has what you need. As the name suggests, it’s all-region-capable, which means that you can play international DVDs on it without any difficulty. It delivers 1080p HDMI upscaled video, so it actually enhances standard video to full HD quality. You’ll never be disappointed with the crystal-clear images this machine delivers. What’s more, it has a USB port that allows you to play MP3 files, WMA audio files, and JPEGs directly from a flash drive. It’s a full multimedia device for the price of a moderate lunch. The DVD reader can play DVDs of almost any format, with the exception of Blu-ray. Additionally, it can play standard CD’s, so you’ve got a way to enjoy all those mixtapes you (or maybe your parents) created back in the day. This DVD player is the epitome of standard plug-and-play technology. It utilizes a single HDMI cable to connect to your television. That allows it to interface with your smart TV, HDTV, or projector screen, and offer digital audio and video with a single cord. It also comes with a very convenient remote control to manage every aspect of your viewing experience from the comfort of your sofa. If you’re one of the lucky people who built a large DVD collection over the years and just couldn’t bear to part with it, then this player may be for you. And even if you don’t have a large collection, don’t fret. You can still purchase your favorite media online and in some stores, or utilize your local library, where you can usually check out DVDs and other media for free with a library card. Once you set this user-friendly little gadget up, you’ll be able to enjoy almost unlimited movie nights for the foreseeable future, with no extra cost (except for maybe the snacks.)Related: Walmart’s $44 portable CD player has a retro look with modern featuresDetails to knowDVD regions: All regions one through six. Resolution: 1080p HDMI upscaled video. Remote control?: Yes. Ports: HDMI and standard USB.In addition to this player selling more than 7,000 times in the past month, over 14,800 shoppers have given it a perfect five-star rating. One said, “We are delighted! It’s a great device. It is easy to install and equally easy to operate.” Another described it as a “vintage…must-have in your home.” With numbers like these, there’s no denying that we’re in the middle of a major paradigm shift. The only question is whether you’ll join in before prices begin to rise. Not only are devices like this DVD player flying off the virtual shelves of many retailers, but they’re also trending on almost all social media platforms. And it’s not just DVDs, it’s all forms of traditional, late 90s, and early 2000s media. For example, TikTok user @phizzymedia posted a now-viral video with nearly 50,000 likes showcasing the benefits of going analog, including no ads, no expiration date, and best of all, no subscription fees. Several users in the comments said things like “100% agree,” and one wrote, “If you can’t hold it…you don’t own it!” @phizzymedia the best decision to start collecting again ✨ #physicalmedia #dvdcollection #film #movies #bluray ♬ The Distant Past – Past Day Shop more deals Iegeek 11.5-Inch Portable Car DVD Player, $50 (was $70) at Amazon Pofoto 12.5-Inch Portable DVD Player, $57 (was $60) at AmazonIf you want to join the retro fun of DVD collecting and viewing, then the Megatek All-Region Compact DVD Player can be the perfect gateway. Cruise passengers need to know about a new Bahamas warning

August 9, 2026 MMN Editor Filed Under: Uncategorized

As a frequent visitor to many parts of the Bahamas via cruise ship, it’s easy to forget that, along with great shopping, local restaurants, plentiful drinks, and beautiful beaches, there’s also crime, danger, and a need to be careful. That’s not always easy to remember while you’re looking at the crystal-clear water or chatting with a friendly shopkeeper who’s usually trying to convince you that you’re getting a fabulous deal, which might not actually be the case. The Bahamas offers a slice of paradise that’s easily accessible via Florida’s cruise ports, but when you visit, it’s important that you know what to expect. It’s not that the islands of the Bahamas are dangerous. Millions of tourists visit the Bahamas each year without incident, but the State Department advises travelers to exercise increased caution. The federal agency has revised its warning for the Bahamas, and while it has not raised the danger level, it has added some new language that travelers need to be aware of.State Dept. shares revised Bahamas warningThe U.S. State Department has maintained its Level 2, Exercise increased caution warning for the Bahamas, but it has updated the language in the warning. Its new language now says “Exercise increased caution in The Bahamas due to crime.”In the revised warning, the Federal agency details what it means by crime: Violent crime, including armed robberies, burglaries, and sexual assaults, can occur anywhere in The Bahamas. Most crime occurs in Nassau and Freeport on New Providence and Grand Bahama islands. Stay alert in the “Over the Hill” area in Nassau, south of Shirley Street, where gangs have killed residents.Stay alert in vacation rental properties, especially where private security is not present. The warning also maintains its language on jet skis, boating, and licenses.Boating is not well regulated. Injuries and deaths have occurred. There have been reports of sexual assaults by jet ski operators. Due to safety risks, U.S. government employees are not allowed to use or rent jet skis and personal watercraft from independent operators on New Providence and Paradise Islands.  Watercraft may not be safe, and some operators are not licensed or insured. Watercraft operators sometimes ignore weather forecasts. Always follow local weather and marine alerts. Do not operate a fishing boat or other charter in Bahamian waters without a license from The Bahamas Port Department. Police have detained American boaters and seized their vessels. Penalties include a fine of up to $100,000 and three years in prison. In addition, the warning contains a section on beach safety which was also carried over from the previous warning. Never swim alone and beware of jet skis or other watercraft operating close to shore.  Sexual assaults have occurred on and near downtown Nassau beaches. Be aware of your surroundings and stay alert in public restrooms. Be aware of your own fitness and swimming capabilities. If you are new to snorkeling, understand the risks. Swimmers and snorkelers have died after overestimating their physical fitness or health.  Stay alert for sharks. Shark attacks have led to serious injury and death.  Be aware of weather and water conditions and follow local warnings. If traveling on a cruise ship, the ports in Nassau and Freeport have shopping villages inside a security barrier. These areas are generally well-patrolled and popular with cruise passengers, but you should still take basic precautions. When leaving that secured zone, recognize that you’re in a foreign country and be vigilant. Pickpockets are common, so secure your wallet and other valuables. In many ports, a government-issued photo ID and your cruise ship card are sufficient, allowing you to leave your passport secured in your cabin. Always follow your cruise line’s guidance, as identification requirements vary by itinerary.Be alert for any warnings specific to your destination, as some countries ban vaping, while others don’t allow camouflage clothing.

Travel agent shares Bahamas travel tipsAs someone who visits the Bahamas regularly, it’s important to remain vigilant. In many cities, you will be approached by people offering drugs, “Cuban” cigars, and other items for purchase outside of stores. In most cases, it’s best to just refuse and keep walking.Dennis Post, co-owner of Postcard Travel Planning and a retired police officer who also served in the Coast Guard, shared his advice on the Bahamas with TheStreet.”We advise people to use precautions whenever traveling abroad in all countries they go to. Referring to the Bahamas, being a Level 2 threat level under the State Department travel advisory, we suggest you exercise normal caution when traveling to foreign ports in the Caribbean, regardless of the warning level,” he said.He noted that you need to be aware of specific risks in the country where you’re traveling.”Most of the Caribbean island countries visited by cruise ships stop in ports that are Level 2; however, Jamaica is a Level 2 but requires a higher level of caution than the other ports, including the Bahamas,” he added.Post also suggests that any cruisers or visitors to any foreign countries register for the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP), which gives travelers quicker access to a consulate or Embassy when traveling and also immediate updates to their personal phone whether there’s a security risk, health risk, or weather risk.More Travel:Disney World shuts down part of legendary resortPopular Disney World ride shut down with no explanationTourists stranded as travel agency files bankruptcy, cancels trips”You merely register your trip where you’re going and when, and the State Department handles it from there,” he said.Post, who has 35 years of military and law enforcement experience, preaches caution, but also reminds people to have fun when traveling.”Enjoy traveling and exercise precautions where you go, but enjoy your trips, including all the Bahamas, ports like Nassau and Freeport. Standard precautions are staying in well-lit areas and those frequented by travelers, traveling in groups, avoiding downtown areas and back streets, and avoiding going to places outside of the port area unless on a recommended excursion from the cruise ship,” he added. The U.S. State Dept. warning levelsLevel 1, Exercise normal precautions: This is the lowest advisory level for safety and security risks. There is some risk in any international travel, and conditions in other countries may differ from those in the United States.  Level 2, Exercise increased caution: Be aware of increased risks to safety and security. Specific risks are described in the Travel Advisory.Level 3, Reconsider travel: Reconsider your travel to the destination due to serious risks to safety and security. Specific risks are described in the Travel Advisory. Level 4, Do not travel: This is the highest advisory level due to life-threatening risks. Specific risks are described in the Travel Advisory. The U.S. government may have very limited or no ability to help, including during an emergency. We advise that U.S. citizens do not travel to the country, or leave as soon as it is safe to do so.

Airbnb just found an unexpected way to make AI pay

August 9, 2026 MMN Editor Filed Under: Uncategorized

Airbnb (ABNB) has spent years telling investors artificial intelligence could transform travel. Now it has a number to back up that claim.Airbnb shares surged about 14% on Aug. 7 to their highest level in four years after the company raised its annual revenue-growth outlook and reported better-than-expected second-quarter results, Reuters reported.Revenue increased 17% to $3.61 billion, while the company now expects full-year revenue growth in the mid-teens rather than its previous low-to-mid-teens forecast. But one figure buried in those data may matter more to stockholders. Airbnb claimed its AI customer-support assistant upgrades helped reduce support costs per booking by 16% compared to a year ago, according to Reuters. This is important because AI investment across corporate America has posed a tough challenge for investors: Where is the refund?Airbnb is starting to offer an answer. Instead of just adding a chatbot to its website, the company is using AI to answer consumer problems, improve search, and accelerate product development. And for travelers, that may mean speedier help and easier booking. For stockholders, it may be something even more precious; it may mean higher revenue while costs do not grow at the same pace.Airbnb’s travel demand stayed strong, despite headwindsAirbnb’s quarter came against an uncomfortable backdrop. Consumers have pulled back because of geopolitical risk, higher travel costs, and inflation.Still, global travel demand remains strong as Airbnb posted $3.61 billion in quarterly revenue and raised its outlook, Reuters confirmed. Gross bookings totaled $27.2 billion, and adjusted profitability also beat estimates, according to Investors Business Daily.Related: Airbnb CEO delivers eye-opening message on future of travelAnother advancement could grow the market Airbnb can serve: Hotel room nights on the platform are growing approximately three times faster than home listings. That alters what Airbnb can do. The company’s first hotel disruption was offering residences to travelers. Now it can progressively sell hotel inventory along with those homes. That gives travelers more options and allows Airbnb to compete for vacations that would otherwise have gone to Booking Holdings, Expedia, or a hotel’s own website.

Airbnb’s AI savings finally answer Wall Street’s biggest questionThe IT industry has spent hundreds of billions of dollars creating the infrastructure for AI. Investors are now demanding proof that these investments are delivering measurable returns.Another example is Airbnb’s customer-service numbers. CEO Brian Chesky said AI improvements helped reduce support costs per booking by 16% compared with last year, Reuters noted.More Travel:Disney World shuts down part of legendary resortPopular Disney World ride shut down with no explanationTourists stranded as travel agency files bankruptcy, cancels tripsAirbnb is also using artificial intelligence for search and product development. The company has already created machine-learning techniques to improve the matching of properties with individual tourists. Airbnb researchers built a retrieval system using embeddings, which went into production and showed a statistically significant gain in booking conversion in testing. That’s important, since Airbnb doesn’t require AI to invent a whole new product category. Instead, it can employ the technologies to improve an existing marketplace.A slight increase in conversion across millions of searches can lead to a significant booking volume. A reduction in support costs can also flow directly into margins.Consumers don’t have to reserve Airbnb because of AI. The technology just needs to make each booking more profitable.Airbnb investors now have a different growth storyThe surge in the stock suggests that Wall Street is beginning to see Airbnb differently. The company’s theme for years has been whether travel demand will stay strong postpandemic. That argument is changing. Airbnb now has other growth paths beyond just getting more people to book regular home stays. These include:Hotel inventory increases.Artificial intelligence can lower costs and increase conversion.New services provide existing consumers more reasons to use the platform.Overseas expansion offers access to markets where Airbnb is still less mature. What Airbnb investors should watchHotel room growth could determine whether Airbnb successfully broadens beyond home rentals.AI-driven customer-service savings should continue improving if the technology is truly scalable.Booking growth will reveal whether consumers remain resilient as economic uncertainty increases.Higher conversion rates could provide incremental growth without requiring proportional marketing spending. The raised full-year outlook will make future misses more costly.Airbnb’s latest quarter hasn’t shown that AI will transform travel overnight. It showed something more useful — that the technology is starting to save the company money. That may be the most important result Airbnb reported for shareholders who have watched companies spend heavily on artificial intelligence with little in the way of a payoff.Related: Airbnb quietly makes big change customers need to know about

5-star analyst resets AMD stock price target

August 9, 2026 MMN Editor Filed Under: Uncategorized

Advanced Micro Devices just got a fresh vote of confidence from one of Wall Street’s most accurate stock pickers, even as the chip giant’s shares took a beating after earnings.JPMorgan analyst Harlan Sur raised his price target on AMD (AMD) to $550 from $385 recently, according to a research note reviewed by TradingView.Sur ranks number 15 out of 12,453 Wall Street analysts tracked by TipRanks, with a 71% success rate and an average return of 43.40% per rating.Sur maintained his “Neutral” rating on the stock even as he raised the stock price target. He told investors that AMD delivered another beat-and-raise quarter compared to consensus expectations, though the September quarter guidance landed modestly below what buyside investors were hoping for. The bigger story, in his view, is what happens next.AMD is part of the AI megatrendAMD is among the most popular AI stocks globally. The company makes Instinct, its lineup of AI accelerators that compete directly with Nvidia’s GPUs, along with Epyc server processors that power much of the world’s cloud and enterprise computing.Down almost 20% from all-time highs, AMD stock has returned over 300% in the last three years. In this period, AMD has increased market share in the AI chip segment, while the CPU business rides a second wave of demand tied to AI agents. That combination, GPUs for training and inference plus CPUs to run the agents around them, is what Sur pointed to when he raised his AMD stock price target.Sur’s note said data center growth is positioned to outpace overall AI infrastructure spending in 2027 significantly. More Bank Stock Resets:Bank of America revamps AMD stock price target for 2026Morgan Stanley resets Microsoft stock forecast ahead of earningsGoldman Sachs revamps SpaceX stock price target for 2026That’s a notable call, since it suggests AMD’s data center business could grow faster than the broader AI buildout itself.AMD CEO Lisa Su made a similar point on the company’s July earnings call, stating:”We now expect data center segment revenue to more than double year over year in 2027.”Su also told analysts that both the server CPU business and the AI accelerator business are set to be major growth drivers going forward, saying, “Both businesses are very significant drivers of our 2027 growth and beyond.”

AMD stock sinks despite consensus beatAMD’s second quarter results, reported in early August, beat consensus estimates. According to a CNBC report, AMD posted:Adjusted earnings of $1.66 per share versus the $1.62 expected.Revenue of $11.54 billion, above estimates of $11.28 billion.Total revenue climbed 50% from a year earlier. Data center sales, AMD’s biggest growth engine, jumped 107% year over year to $6.7 billion, driven by both CPU and GPU demand. AMD forecast roughly $13 billion in third quarter revenue, plus or minus $300 million. That was ahead of the $12.52 billion analysts expected, but below the $14 billion some had hoped for. AMD stock fell more than 7% following its earnings report, due to slowing growth and a sky-high valuation. Today, the tech stock trades at 44.5x forward earnings, below its five-year average of 34.5x. Other analysts lift AMD stock price targetSur isn’t alone in raising his AMD stock price target. Several other firms raised their AMD price targets after earnings, even while flagging that results missed the most optimistic forecasts on the Street, according to TradingView.Jefferies raised its target to $650 from $640 while keeping a Buy rating, pointing to an expected pickup in AI GPU growth in the fourth quarter. Wells Fargo lifted its target to $700 from $615, maintaining an Overweight rating and citing AMD’s forecast for revenue growth above a 35% compound annual rate between 2025 and 2030. Truist moved its target to $594 from $478 with a Buy rating, pointing to improving product performance and stronger execution. Morgan Stanley, more cautious, raised its target to $465 from $410 while keeping an Equal Weight rating, calling management’s outlook for data center revenue to more than double in 2027 “certainly positive.”What’s driving the AMD stock outlookMuch of the optimism traces back to AMD’s Helios rack-scale AI system, which began shipping this quarter to major customers including Meta, OpenAI, and Oracle. AMD CFO Jean Hu told CNBC the company expects data center sales to accelerate in the back half of 2026, driving stronger revenue growth and continued earnings expansion.AMD also raised its longer-term market forecasts, now expecting the AI accelerator market to approach $1.4 trillion by 2030 and the server CPU market to reach around $220 billion. Related: Nvidia dominates AI chips, but BofA sees AMD closing inSu said that customers are giving AMD much more visibility into their compute needs than in the past, which is letting the company invest further out across its supply chain. For now, Wall Street’s price target math suggests plenty of room for AMD stock to run, even if the stock needs to work through some near-term turbulence first.Related: AMD Stock tumbles because of SpaceX
