WATCH: Trump assures he can work with Democrats in Congress, as he has one ‘impervious’ power

President Donald Trump, in an interview with Fox after the network predicted that the Democrats would take the majority of both the House and the Senate, assured the interviewers he could work with the leftist party.
Trump said he was a little bit surprised, as he thought some of the GOP candidates would do better.
“Don’t forget we had a lot of candidates that did win,” he said.
He said a president working with a Congress led by an opposing party has been done before.
And he noted several Democrats already had called him, and he described them as friends. He said he expects, “They’ll send over things that are insane, and I’ll veto them.”

He stressed: “I have the power of veto and the power of veto is impervious.”

A very tired-sounding and deflated Trump calls into Fox to react to the blue tsunami and how he’ll deal with a Democratic Congress. “I have the power of veto and the power of veto; you know, it’s impervious.” https://t.co/QDPorGVboQ

Welcome to the Madhouse

November 4, 2026 MMN Editor Filed Under: Commentary Culture Investigations

From the river to the sea. Blue tsunami reckoning.
Americans won’t be getting those $5,000 checks after all. The polls weren’t wrong. If anything, they understated the carnage awaiting Republicans on Tuesday.
As of midnight, Democrats were projected to comfortably retake control of the House and Senate. By the time all votes are counted, they could control 55 seats in the upper chamber.
“It’s worse than anyone thought,” one GOP strategist told Mark Halperin. Others described the results as follows: “Bloodbath.” “Cataclysmic.” “Massacre.” “This is f—ed.”
And so it was.
Republicans didn’t just lose a U.S. Senate seat in Texas to James Talarico, a baby-faced avatar of insufferable wokeness who can name his favorite drag queen in less time than it takes most men to remember their own birthdays. The three-term governor, Greg Abbott (R.), was defeated.
They lost Lindsey Graham’s old seat in South Carolina, a state Donald Trump carried three times by double digits. They lost in Iowa and Kansas, a state that hasn’t voted for a Democratic president since Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964.
So much for the concerns about Sen. John Fetterman (D., Pa.) switching parties or becoming a nuisance to his fellow Democrats as the decisive 51st vote in a narrowly divided Senate. And, for that matter, the previously widespread Democratic fears that Trump would cancel the midterms or attempt to overturn the results.
“I am absolutely willing to accept those results,” Trump told the New York Times. “We’ll work with the Democrats, and we’ll, you know, look forward to working with them. We’ll probably work something out.” (Fact check: They probably won’t.) He followed up on Truth Social, writing: “I wasn’t on the Ballot and if I was, we would have won IN A LANDSLIDE!”
In any event, the opposite happened. Most observers—including some Republicans eyeing a run in 2028—will view the outcome as a sweeping rebuke of Trump’s presidency. The post-Trump era of American politics has finally arrived. The lamest of ducks, floundering in the wreckage.
To put the results in historical context, the GOP’s midterm performance was roughly as calamitous as that of the Arab armies in the Six-Day War.
On a related note, Abdul El-Sayed was projected to win the Senate race in Michigan. A left-wing radical with extensive antisemitic affiliations, El-Sayed will become one of the shortest men to serve in the U.S. Senate since Israel’s founding in 1948. Mahmoud Khalil, the Columbia University activist who said Hamas “couldn’t avoid” the Oct. 7 massacre, was in Detroit to help him celebrate.
El-Sayed’s victory is sure to embolden the Democrat extremists eager to shape the party’s ideological trajectory heading into the 2028 primary. He was the only swing-state Senate candidate endorsed by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D., N.Y.), a likely presidential candidate who preemptively touted her influence in a memo to allies.
“The Congresswoman has emerged as one of the most powerful endorsements in the United States,” the memo reads. “Over the course of the past two years, she has proven herself to be one of the most effective voices in the country for America’s working class.”
El-Sayed was also the only Democratic Senate candidate to campaign with Hasan Piker, the anti-American influencer who has praised Hamas, Mao Zedong, and Luigi Mangione. On his livestream Tuesday, Piker urged El-Sayed and other radical Democrats to “get back to work” and “immediately hard pivot [left] once the elections are over.”
As expected, several House candidates who campaigned with Piker easily won seats in deep-blue districts after defeating establishment-backed opponents in the primary. They will join a Democratic caucus projected to hold more than 250 seats—the largest House majority for either party since 1990.
Among them: New York’s Darializa Avila Chevalier, a Columbia graduate student who attended a pro-Hamas rally the day after the Oct. 7 terrorist attack, and New Jersey’s Adam Hamawy, a Brazilian butt lift specialist who testified for the defense in the trial of the Muslim cleric who inspired the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.
To the extent that American political parties can be said to win elections, rather than stand by as their opponents lose them, it was a great night for Democrats. Trump’s conciliatory overtures notwithstanding, their willingness to work with his administration is unlikely to extend beyond congressional subpoenas. They are just as unlikely to draw any useful lessons from their victory, which was largely driven by the same cost-of-living concerns that fueled Trump’s reelection two years earlier.
Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D., N.Y.), who is now in line for Speaker of the House—assuming he can get the votes—promised to deliver the “dramatic change that the American people are demanding.” We shall soon find out what that means.
George Santos, the former GOP congressman and federal inmate, told the Washington Free Beacon that Jeffries would have his hands full attempting to placate the incoming crop of left-wing radicals. “These people are crazy,” he said. “Israel bad, kill the Jews. I mean, there’s a lot of hyperbole in politics, but that’s what they actually believe.”

GOP senator’s 30-year reign ends as 5th-generation logger pulls off stunning upset

November 4, 2026 MMN Editor Filed Under: THE NEWS

Fifth-generation logger Troy Jackson has pulled off a major upset in Maine, defeating incumbent Republican Sen. Susan Collins and giving the Democratic Party a major boost in the battle for the U.S. Senate, the Fox News Decision Desk projects.Jackson’s victory will end Collins’ nearly three-decade career in the Senate.”Maine, I owe you everything,” Jackson wrote on X. “I’m ready to get to work for Mainers in the U.S. Senate, and I promise you this: I’ll never forget where I came from or who I’m fighting for.”The win gives Democrats a major pickup in one of the most closely watched races of the 2026 midterm elections. The Maine contest was viewed as a critical test of whether Democrats could defeat a Republican incumbent in a state that has shifted increasingly toward the party in recent presidential elections. The result also could have major implications for control of the Senate.SCHUMER WARNS OF REPUBLICAN ADVANTAGE THAT COULD CHANGE THE BATTLE FOR SENATE CONTROL”It has been the honor of my life to serve the people of Maine in the United States Senate. I’m proud of all I have been able to accomplish for our state and for our country in the past 30 years,” Collins wrote in conceding the race to her Democrat challenger.”I called Troy Jackson tonight to congratulate him and to assure him that my staff and I will work to ensure a smooth transition.”Jackson previously served as president of the Maine Senate and represented parts of Aroostook County in the state Legislature. He campaigned as a working-class Democrat and labor advocate who would challenge both Washington’s political establishment and wealthy interests after he replaced disgraced Senate nominee Graham Platner on the ballot.Platner dropped out of the race in July amid allegations of sexual assault, which prompted a vote within the Maine Democratic Party to install Jackson.Jackson’s campaign was nearly knocked off its tracks early on when it was revealed his longtime partner and mother of his two children is also his second cousin — the two share great-grandparents, according to reports. But that scandal wasn’t enough to stop him from toppling the political institution that is Senator Collins. COLLINS INSISTS SOCIALIST RIVAL WON’T BEAT HER AS MAINE’S MONEY MACHINE: ‘YOU’LL LOSE BIG TIME’Collins, who was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 1996, was seeking a sixth term. She is Maine’s longest-serving member of Congress and chaired the powerful Senate Appropriations Committee, a position that gave her significant influence over federal spending and funding for Maine projects.Collins, one of the more moderate Republicans in the Senate, built her latest reelection campaign around her reputation for independence and bipartisan dealmaking. She highlighted her work on infrastructure, veterans’ issues, rural communities and federal assistance for Maine residents while arguing that her seniority and committee position gave the state an advantage in Washington. The race was shaped by Collins’ complicated relationship with President Donald Trump and the Republican Party. Democrats criticized Collins over her votes for Trump-backed policies and her vote to confirm Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, arguing that her reputation as a moderate no longer matched her voting record.Collins countered by pointing to the times she opposed Trump and Senate Republicans. She emphasized her willingness to break with her party and argued that Maine voters valued her independence more than party loyalty.”Troy and Chuck Schumer and their allies run ads saying that I’m somehow a puppet of the president. Believe me, that would come as a huge surprise to President Trump,” the senator said in an interview last month with Fox News Digital.Former Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin campaigned with Collins in the closing weeks of the race, helping her make the case that she was a bipartisan senator who could work with lawmakers from both parties.Jackson’s victory marks a significant political shift in Maine and ends Collins’ run as one of the Republican Party’s most durable statewide candidates. Collins won reelection by nearly nine percentage points in 2020, but Democrats entered the 2026 contest with advantages driven by the state’s increasingly Democratic electorate and opposition to the Trump administration.Jackson will enter the Senate as a former state legislative leader with strong ties to organized labor and rural Maine. His election is likely to make him a prominent voice on economic issues as Democrats seek to appeal to working-class voters across the country.

Michigan U.S. Senate fight turns on last few ballots as 2 candidates neck-and-neck

November 4, 2026 MMN Editor Filed Under: THE NEWS

U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.
The Michigan Senate race between Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed, a Democrat socialist, and Republican Mike Rogers, turned out to be one of the tightest fights in Tuesday’s midterms.
Late in the evening, with not even half of the votes counted, Sayed held 49.7% of the votes, to Rogers’ 49.4%.
El-Sayed had been leading by multiple points earlier in the counting, but Rogers was closing in, with multiple rural areas of the state still not reporting.
Abdul El-Sayed
The race results would be anti-climactic anyway, as forecasters were suggesting that Democrats would have the majorities in both the House and the Senate already, although certainly not by large numbers.

At the Fox News Big Board, Bill Hemmer appears to be perplexed that Abdul El-Sayed is leading Mike Rogers. “Let me make sure that’s right.” #Elections2026 #Midterms2026 https://t.co/mg0Flbyfab

DEVELOPING: Mike Rogers makes INROADS in tight race. The race remains extremely close as the coalition for Abdul El-Sayed faces questions. THE FIGHT IS ON IN MICHIGAN Keep pressure on in Michigan! https://t.co/usGwah3yU8

The socialist is a former public health official for Detroit and Wayne County who has complained over and over about corporate influence in American politics and the high costs for families. Reports confirm he wants unions to have more power and he wants America to move to a “Medicare-for-all” agenda in which the government essentially could control all healthcare decisions.
Rogers, 63, is a veteran of Congress having served seven terms there, including a chairmanship of the House Intelligence panel.
He’s promoting lower costs for gas, groceries and prescription drugs, bringing manufacturing back to the state and putting education ahead of “indoctrination.”
They are seeking the seat left empty when Sen. Gary Peters, a Democrat, chose not to run again.

‘RINO’: Greg Abbott loses Texas governor’s race, Trump responds

November 4, 2026 MMN Editor Filed Under: THE NEWS

In the second of a one-two punch in the Long Star State — after James Talarico defeated Ken Paxton for a U.S. Senate seat — Republican Gov. Greg Abbott has lost his bid for reelection as Texas voters instead elevated Democrat Gina Hinojosa to the office.
After the race was called by the major networks, President Trump posted on Truth Social: “If Greg Abbott, the Governor of Texas, hadn’t become a RINO in the last six months of his Political Life, he wouldn’t have lost. He went back to his original formula, and it wasn’t pretty! President DONALD J. TRUMP”
Abbott was conspicuously absent from rallies Trump did for Republicans in Texas during the campaign.
When the race was called Abbott trailed Hinojosa by about 14 perentage points.

Adding up the millions: Democrats retake majority in Senate after running competitive races in red states

November 4, 2026 MMN Editor Filed Under: THE NEWS

U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.
Democrats reclaimed the Senate majority Tuesday after their party’s candidates ran competitive races in historically red states.
Outside groups aligned with Democrats spent money in red states after polls showed their candidates performing better than usual. Polls found that voters overwhelmingly trusted Democrats over Republicans to handle the economy and government corruption, the two top issues in the 2026 cycle.
Democratic-aligned groups spent $133.4 million on political advertisements to support Democratic Texas state Rep. James Talarico.

JUST IN: Democrats are projected to TAKE CONTROL of the US Senate
The question is, how MUCH control will they have?
The margin is unclear. But it’s looking like they’ll secure at LEAST 53 seats. Probably more. https://t.co/pFIRPWUbYG
— Nick Sortor (@nicksortor) November 4, 2026

Republicans spent over $350 million to help Paxton. Tech mogul Elon Musk spent about $212 million to support Paxton, including a $168 million donation to the Senate Leadership Fund, the Senate Republicans’ top campaign arm, which funneled almost all of the cash into pro-Paxton advertisements.
Texas has not elected a Democratic senator since 1988.
Corruption became a top issue for voters in the final stretch before the election. Paxton was accused of misusing the office of the attorney general to protect and assist Austin real estate developer and political donor Nate Paul, who faced federal investigations.
The Republican-controlled Texas state Legislature impeached Paxton in 2023 on bribery and abuse of power charges, although the state Senate acquitted him.
The Senate Leadership Fund invested $14 million to support Republican Kansas Sen. Roger Marshall in a state that has not had a Democratic senator since 1939. The super PAC spent $5 million to help Republican South Carolina Sen. Darline Graham defeat Democratic South Carolina Senate nominee Annie Andrews.

BREAKING: NEWSMAX projects Democrats will win control of the Senate. https://t.co/VTwkoFqEPR
— NEWSMAX (@NEWSMAX) November 4, 2026

Marshall sued over 700 patients for outstanding debts, leading to 81 arrests, according to The New. York Times. Many of these bills garnished patients’ paychecks and bank accounts after being charged an 18% interest rate. Some of these patients lacked insurance and were new mothers.
Marshall paid a bakery $1,300 after its owner, Holly Thomas, accused his 2020 campaign of leaving a nearly $700 bill unpaid for six years. The senator said on X that he paid the bill and apologized to the bakery, claiming he had “no idea” how the bill went unpaid for six years.
Democrats removed roughly $1.1 million in ad buys in North Carolina and slashed spending in Georgia while former Republican North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper and Democratic Georgia Sen. Jon Ossoff held comfortable leads. The Senate Majority PAC, the Senate Democrats’ top super PAC, then allocated nearly $7 million into the races in Michigan and Maine.
Republican North Carolina Senate nominee Michael Whatley’s campaign temporarily pulled television ads on Oct. 7. Two Republican-aligned PACs, Americans for Prosperity Action and the No Going Back PAC, had no planned ads to support Whatley in early October.
Republican Senate candidates in red states struggled as voters remained frustrated with the economy and the Iran war. Corruption became a top issue in the final weeks of the election cycle, particularly as they struggled with affordability.
Seventeen percent of U.S. adults approved of Trump’s handling of the cost of living, while 26% approved of his handling of the economy overall, according to The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research. About half of U.S. adults said they were “extremely” or “very” concerned about being able to fill up their tanks, which increased from 39% in July.
Paxton said in leaked audio that the war and gas prices were to blame for his struggling campaign.

Trump-backed ex-NFL reporter loses Senate race to progressive who vowed to ‘rip ICE apart’

November 4, 2026 MMN Editor Filed Under: THE NEWS

Progressives scored a major victory in Minnesota, a state heavily targeted by the Trump administration in its immigration and anti-fraud crackdowns.Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan, the Democratic nominee, toppled former NFL sideline reporter and Republican nominee Michele Tafoya, stifling the GOP’s hopes of flipping the Land of 10,000 Lakes. While her win over Tafoya, who was backed by President Donald Trump, is a positive for Democrats in their pursuit of power in the upper chamber, it’s not necessarily a negative for Republicans, given that the seat was already blue.PEGGY FLANAGAN VOWS TO ‘RIP ICE APART’ AFTER TOPPLING MODERATE DEM IN KEY SENATE BATTLEFlanagan’s victory comes after the state of Minnesota and her former running mate, Gov. Tim Walz, were directly in the Trump administration’s crosshairs for the sprawling, multibillion-dollar daycare fraud scandal that erupted earlier this year.Given that several Somali immigrants were linked to the scandal, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) descended upon the state to enact Operation Metro Surge. That resulted in the deaths of two Minnesota residents, Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti, at the hands of federal immigration agents.ICE’s actions in the state led to yet another government shutdown in Washington, D.C., and became a pointed rallying cry for her campaign and ammunition she used on the trail.MN SENATE CANDIDATE RIPPED FOR BLAMING WALZ FOR FRAUD DESPITE BEING HIS #2: ‘KNOWS SHE’S COOKED'”We need to rip ICE apart and stop them from terrorizing our communities,” Flanagan said shortly after winning her primary earlier this year. “And I know this. I know that we can fix our broken immigration system, secure the border, and create a real pathway to citizenship that aligns with our values.”Much of Tafoya’s campaign hinged on what role Flanagan played in the Minnesota fraud scheme and just how much she knew as a top official in the state.”My opponent has been second in command in this state for eight years, drawing a taxpayer-funded paycheck,” Tafoya said at a debate last month. “And what do we have to show for that? We have massive fraud, historic fraud. We have test scores down. We have crime spiking. We have a massive surplus turned into a deficit.”SLEEPER GOP CANDIDATE PUTS BLUE-LEANING STATE IN PLAY AS FRAUD SCANDAL SHADOWS DEMSFlanagan, however, has shifted much of the blame for the scandal onto Walz and countered that “he was the one who had oversight here.””The governor has been very clear that the buck stops with him,” Flanagan said. Her win could also be a double-edged sword for Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and his ambition to stay on as leader of Senate Democrats.Flanagan, like other progressive Democratic candidates, has actively run away from and criticized Schumer, arguing that Democrats need change at the leadership level.”People want big, bold change,” Flanagan told The New York Times. “They are sick of nibbling around the edges.”
