CNN’s V. Spehar Dismisses NYT Evidence of Democrats’ Alaska Scheme

November 2, 2026 MMN Editor Filed Under: Commentary Culture Investigations

CNN via SnapStream

On Monday, CNN This Morning struggled to reconcile competing accounts surrounding the growing controversy surrounding Alaska’s Senate race. This comes after a New York Times article that detailed an alleged Democratic effort to recruit a candidate who could swipe votes away from Republican incumbent Dan S. Sullivan to benefit Democratic challenger Mary Peltola.OnMessage Public Strategies executive vice president Abigail Jackson was adamant that claims of Democrat scheming in the Alaska race was not fueled by Republican speculation, but the facts. Jackson pointed out that Democrats’, “framing of ‘are Alaska voters smarter enough to determine the difference between Dan Sullivan’ is a bit disingenuous because that’s what Democrats were banking on when they got involved and recruited this other Dan Sullivan to arrive.” INSANE: CNN liberal “V. Spehar” — a “nonbinary lesbian” who uses they/them pronouns — claims there’s still zero evidence Democrats recruited Dan J. Sullivan to run in the Alaska Senate race against incumbent Dan S. Sullivan to help Democrat Mary Peltola. Has this lady not read The New York Times article?!?!— Curtis Houck (@CurtisHouck) November 2, 2026 Rather than engage with The Times’ reporting, digital journalist and creator of Under the Desk News V. Spehar insisted there was no proof Democrats recruited Dan J. Sullivan, the retired school teacher whose name closely resembles that of the incumbent.“Who says that they actually — there’s no proof that Democrats definitely recruited Dan J. Sullivan,” said Spehar. Her evidence? Peltola claiming she had nothing to do with it.When Jackson attempted to explain that evidence against Peltola had emerged, Spehar again pushed back, claiming that it was “…A false statement.”Jackson went on to reference the findings from The Times article, which reported that Democratic operatives and people connected to Peltola’s campaign received orders and worked to recruit candidates who could syphon away votes from Sullivan:There is no proof, but let’s let The New York Times report it out a little bit more because it seems like there was some level of coordination that previously they denied they had any involvement. And now drip, drip, drip, a little bit more information is coming out and it’s — It sure seems like Mary Peltola’s campaign was involved and aware of this situation. Instead of addressing the new details in The Times’ report like a prepared journalist, Spehar attempted to distance Peltola from the allegations by pointing to her public statements denying involvement.“It doesn’t seem like that because she said very clearly, she hasn’t. I’ll tell you, Mary Peltola — didn’t even work with any influencers or anyone. The whole thing she said the entire time was, I’m going to win for and with Alaskans. Stay out of my election,” Spehar claimed.Jackson quickly countered, arguing that Peltola’s “campaign manager said something else.”Spehar’s argument on Peltola’s public messaging sidestepped the central issue raised by The Times’ article, and completely ignored whether people connected to Peltola’s campaign and other Democrats coordinated an effort to recruit another Dan Sullivan into the race. For Spehar, the discussion appeared to be more about defending Peltola’s denials than grappling with what The Times had uncovered. The transcript is below. This is explosive reporting for The New York Times specifically because they were trying to prove in their reporting that there was some kind of coordination. So, that’s how this has escaped to be as big as it has. The question is, does it have reverberations past Election Day? (…)

Developing: Florida Flooding Causes Vote Center Closures in 4 Counties

November 2, 2026 MMN Editor Filed Under: THE NEWS

Rep. Byron Donalds speaks at Trump rally in Fort Myers, Florida – October 23, 2026
Flooding across Florida has led to polling location changes in multiple counties ahead of tomorrow’s elections.
Extreme flooding is causing the relocations, with election officials warning of additional changes pending weather developments.
Voters in Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, and Indian River counties have been moved to different locations, according to NBC affiliate WPTV.
This comes as GOP Rep. Byron Donalds holds a lead over Democrat David Jolly in the polls.
Republican Senator Ashley Moody also holds a wide lead over radical left Democrat Angie Nixon in the Senate race.
NBC reports:

Gov. Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency in seven counties along the Atlantic seaboard that are being hit with flash flooding and extreme precipitation.
So far, at least four precincts in St. Lucie County, which Donald Trump won with 54% of the vote in 2024, have had to be moved because of flooding concerns as the region is hit with “historic” levels of rain ahead of Election Day. Five polling locations in Brevard County also have been moved because of inclement weather and for the “safety and security” of election workers, according to Tim Bobanic, the county’s elections supervisor.
About 22 inches of rain fell over 24 hours in Palm Bay, Florida, the hardest-hit community, prompting water rescues and evacuations, according to Robert Haley, a National Weather Service meteorologist based in Melbourne.
“The biggest issue is we have a number of roads that are impassable, and the ground is totally saturated. So it’s going to take days for that water to recede,” Haley said. “We knew that there was potential for significant rainfall and flash flooding, but the amount certainly exceeded everyone’s expectations.”
Haley said roads were closed, at least temporarily, in Palm Bay, West Melbourne, Vero Beach, Fort Pierre and Port St. Lucie, among other areas. Showers are expected to continue into Tuesday, and Haley said there is about a 5% chance of flash flooding on Election Day itself.

 This is a developing story.

Tusk Cries ‘Russian Interference’ As Opposition Pushes No-Confidence Vote For Court Takeover

Tusk Cries ‘Russian Interference’ As Opposition Pushes No-Confidence Vote For Court Takeover

Recent days have seen Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk thrust into the international spotlight after what’s been widely dubbed a forced takeover of what’s supposed to be an independent top court, the Constitutional Tribunal.Another key official, Poland’s Supreme Court First President Zbigniew Kapiński, has joined the growing chorus of those condemning Tusk’s actions as tantamount to orchestrating a coup d’état.”These actions bear the hallmarks of a coup d’état,” Kapiński declared Monday, in reference to the chaotic events kicked into motion Friday night.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, AFP/Japan Times

According to more of Kapiński’s remarks as quoted in The Hungarian Conservative:Kapiński insisted that Bogdan Święczkowski remained the legitimate president of the Tribunal and warned that the government could attempt a similar takeover of the Supreme Court itself. Appointed to his current position by President Karol Nawrocki in May, he argued that nothing comparable had happened since the introduction of martial law in communist Poland. The Supreme Court chief has also convened an extraordinary General Assembly of judges for Tuesday, 3 November, to discuss threats to Poland’s constitutional order and adopt an official position on the crisis. When The Economist notes that democracy is being blown up…Poland’s Constitutional Tribunal is supposed to embody democratic stability, but has spent the past decade as a battleground for fights between populists and liberals. The latest conflict looks like a full-blown constitutional crisis. The Polish legal system includes several top courts, with the Supreme Court being the highest court of appeal for common civil as well as military courts.Tusk tripling down…Instead of backing down, Tusk is vowing to see through the sitting of his judges, which essentially started by force on Friday night:Poland’s prime minister, Donald Tusk, has vowed to see through a contested overhaul of the country’s constitutional court, declaring that “in certain matters, there can be no compromise”.In a prime-time television address on Saturday night, Tusk was defiant, despite overnight protests that saw riot police drafted to protect the court’s building, saying the shake-up was vital to restore a tribunal crippled by years of political disputes….Defending the action, Tusk said “there was never any doubt that the court in the form imposed by PiS was not a genuine court”, citing adverse rulings from European tribunals. He went on to reject opposition (as well as some international) outrage as akin to “a thief snatching an elderly woman’s handbag, running off, and when he is caught, he screams that he is subjected to violence.”And cue Tusk supporters lobbing the ‘Russian interference’ charge to explain their actions…Tusk further stated: “Let’s call things for what they are: for years, there have been organisations and politicians in Poland who seek to destroy democracy and the rule of law. It is no coincidence they find support among pro-Russian forces globally.”Could this keep escalating toward more coup-plotting and house-cleaning of political rivals? The opposition, however, is increasingly vocal in calling for Musk’s government to resign altogether, pushing a broader no-confidence vote.🚨🇵🇱 Polish MP Bosak is demanding the RESIGNATION of Tusk’s government for the attempted coup in Poland:Bosak outlined 5 demands:1. Withdraw police from the Constitutional Tribunal.2. Allow its judges, leadership and security personnel to resume their duties.3.…— Mario Nawfal (@MarioNawfal) November 2, 2026
As a reminder, President Karol Nawrocki after disembarking his plane upon his abrupt return to Warsaw Friday night, had physically attempted to gain entry into the Constitutional Tribunal amid unpredented breaking out at the top legislative and legal review body.Tusk’s pro-European government has said the suspension is necessary to restore judicial independence, while critics from the opposition have likened it to full-blown and obvious judicial coup.

The Price Of This Short Domestic Flight Is So Absurd You’ll Think It’s A Typo

The Price Of This Short Domestic Flight Is So Absurd You’ll Think It’s A Typo

Americans hoping to fly home for the holidays are in for a brutal case of sticker shock. Just how bad has the airfare insanity become? One flight between two cities in the same state reportedly came with a price tag so outrageous it almost defies belief.A roughly 90 minute flight from Buffalo to New York City is said to have been listed for a $12,000, according to TikTokker Kristen Mirand. The eye-popping figure was quoted for a round-trip ticket, according to the New York Post. Making matters even more absurd, the quoted itinerary reportedly included a detour through Florida. It remains unclear whether anyone actually purchased a ticket at that price. The shocking example comes as holiday airfare reaches its highest level in a decade. The average domestic round-trip ticket for Thanksgiving now costs $402, a 31% increase from last year, according to travel booking platform Hopper.Christmas travelers won’t be getting much relief, either. Average round-trip fares have climbed to $452, up 23% from 2025.Hopper attributes much of the increase to elevated jet fuel prices linked to the United States’ war with Iran, and don’t expect airfare prices to come crashing down anytime soon.”Unfortunately, the majority of that price jump is coming on the back of almost doubling of jet fuel prices compared to this time last year.” Hayley Berg, Hopper’s lead economist, said. “Airlines unfortunately have to pass on those incremental costs in the form of higher fares to consumers.”United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby said that airlines could hold on to much of their fare increases even after fuel prices return to normal, while Southwest CEO Bob Jordan was even more blunt, warning that carriers would “certainly not attempt to give some of these fare increases back.”In other words, even if the war ends and fuel prices plunge, Americans could be stuck paying sky-high airfares long after the crisis is over. And the airlines? They could be laughing all the way to the bank.

A former West Point cadet who admitted to secretly drugging his pregnant girlfriend and administering abortion medication to her without her knowledge or consent is now being sued over the 2022 incident. The woman, identified as “Jane Doe” in court documents, sued Caleb T. Suh in New York Supreme Court on Oct. 28, accusing him of assault and battery and seeking damages.Doe and Suh were cadets at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point when Doe learned she was pregnant in January 2022, according to the complaint. The lawsuit alleges Suh repeatedly pressured Doe to have an abortion, while she told him she intended to keep the baby. Suh later appeared to support her decision but allegedly used her identification to create an online pharmacy account in her name and obtain abortion medication without her knowledge.WOMAN HELD DOWN, FORCE-FED ABORTION PILLS AT HEART OF ‘HELL ON EARTH’ FIGHT OVER BIDEN-ERA POLICYOn Feb. 4, 2022, Suh brought a drink he described as a pregnancy protein shake to Doe’s barracks room, according to the complaint. She became sick and drifted in and out of consciousness after drinking it.Suh later admitted in federal court that he administered abortion medication to Doe without her knowledge or consent. Hours later, Doe became seriously ill and was taken to a hospital, where doctors confirmed she was suffering a miscarriage.Doe reported the incident to the Army Criminal Investigation Division at West Point in May 2022.Suh was charged in federal court in June 2026 and pleaded guilty June 30 to assault resulting in substantial bodily injury to a dating partner.Suh admitted creating an online pharmacy account using his girlfriend’s identity to obtain abortion medication without her knowledge or consent. He also admitted to obtaining Xanax to sedate her before administering the abortion pills.”My intent was use the Xanax to unwittingly sedate my girlfriend so that I could then administer the abortion pills, which I had obtained via the online pharmacy,” Suh said, according to the complaint.EX-DEMOCRAT SHARES ABORTION PILL EXPERIENCE THAT LEFT HER ‘HEMORRHAGING IN THE BATH’Suh also admitted deceiving his girlfriend into believing he supported the pregnancy before giving her the medication. He acknowledged that she later miscarried “as a result of the abortion pills that I had administered without her knowledge and consent.”After leaving West Point, Suh attended Cornell University, graduating in May 2026, before enrolling in a master’s program at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health.A spokesperson for Cornell told Fox News Digital that when Suh was admitted as a transfer student, he answered “No” when asked whether he had been found responsible for a disciplinary violation at a previous school. Cornell said his previous university had reported he was in good academic standing and eligible to return.A person with knowledge of the matter told Fox News Digital that Columbia was unaware of Suh’s status until the New York Times contacted the university Friday and that the school took swift action. Applications to the school do not require applicants to disclose prior criminal convictions, the person said.FIRST ON FOX: TOP REPUBLICANS TAKE ABORTION PILL FIGHT TO SUPREME COURT, CITING COERCION AND SAFETY RISKSSuh asked a federal judge in October to postpone his sentencing until January 2027, in part to complete his semester at Columbia. Federal prosecutors did not oppose the request, and U.S. District Judge Philip M. Halpern granted it.Doe is seeking compensatory and punitive damages.”Our complaint sets out that our client was forced to endure an unimaginable trauma and was robbed of a pregnancy she wanted, while Mr. Suh has since managed to attend not one, but two ivy league schools. We are outraged on her behalf and plan to aggressively pursue justice,” Russell Kornblith, partner at Wigdor LLP, said in a statement shared with Fox News Digital.West Point and an attorney for Suh did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Costco’s latest coffee offering hones in on emerging trend

November 2, 2026 MMN Editor Filed Under: SUCCESS, The Street

Costco has a reputation for being a store where you can buy household essentials and groceries in bulk. But in recent years, Costco has become a destination for trendy products as well.

Costco has showcased its share of viral snacks and baked goods recently, including Dot’s pretzels and Kirkland Signature Mini Pain Au Chocolat.

Now, Costco is giving shoppers another way to get their caffeine fix while tapping into one of the biggest trends in the food and beverage industry – the push for more protein.

Costco’s latest coffee offering is bound to be a hit

For coffee lovers, there’s no shortage of ways to get a caffeine fix at Costco. The company’s Kirkland Signature pods are a staple item in many homes.

Now, Costco is upping its game by selling Bulletproof High Protein Iced Coffee, a powdered coffee mix that combines caffeine with protein, fiber and MCT oil.

The product, which has appeared in Costco locations in parts of California and the Northwest, reflects the growing demand for foods and beverages that promise more than just flavor or convenience.

Each serving contains 12 grams of protein and five grams of fiber. It also delivers approximately twice the caffeine of a standard cup of coffee.

Unlike traditional ready-to-drink iced coffee, Bulletproof’s product comes in powdered form. Shoppers mix it with water or milk before adding ice, creating a beverage that can also be customized with additional ingredients.

The product is another example of how retailers and food manufacturers are responding to consumers who increasingly want their everyday purchases to deliver additional nutritional benefits.

And Costco’s management has already acknowledged that this shift is influencing what members put in their shopping carts.

Protein is finding its way into everyday products

Protein has moved well beyond the traditional categories of protein powders, shakes, and nutrition bars.

Consumers can increasingly find it in products ranging from breakfast cereals and chips to sparkling beverages.

Coffee is a particularly important category for this trend because it combines two consumer priorities – caffeine for energy and protein for nutrition and satiety.

Starbucks and Dunkin’ have both introduced protein-focused beverage options, while food manufacturers are finding new ways to incorporate protein into familiar products.

Last year, almost half of U.S. consumers said they want to eat more protein, according to Bain & Company.

The growing popularity of GLP-1 medications, which can change eating habits and increase the emphasis on nutrient-dense foods, is another factor contributing to demand.

For retailers, protein-infused products offer an opportunity to attract shoppers who are willing to spend on products that align with their health and wellness priorities.

Costco is particularly well-positioned to capitalize on that trend because of its ability to introduce new products to a large membership base while emphasizing value.

Costco is paying attention to changing shopping habits

Costco’s latest coffee offering also aligns with comments from management during the company’s fourth quarter earnings call.

CFO Gary Millerchip specifically addressed the growing demand for protein and healthier packaged foods, highlighting several categories that have been performing well.

“We continue to see a shift in member shopping habits towards healthier packaged foods and protein items,” Millerchip said.

The comments suggest Costco is actively monitoring changes in consumer preferences and adjusting its merchandise selection accordingly.

More Retail:

Costco sees major shift in member behavior

Retail chain shuts all locations as legal changes hit industry

Costco makes major investment in online shopping for members

That strategy is consistent with the company’s broader approach to merchandising, which emphasizes introducing new products that members perceive as offering quality and value.

The Bulletproof coffee is a good example of that approach.

Rather than asking shoppers to change their morning routines, it offers an opportunity to add protein and fiber to something they already consume regularly. That convenience could make functional coffee appealing to shoppers who don’t necessarily want another supplement or protein shake.

Maurie Backman owns shares of Costco.

Alaska’s Decoy Scandal Brings Back The Usual Suspects For Shady Election Tactics

Authored by Jonathan Turley via JonathanTurley.org,Below is my column on the return of Marc Elias in another campaign controversy with the Alaskan decoy scandal. The Elias Law Group and other lawyers were tied to the effort to confuse Alaskan voters by The New York Times in its recent investigative report. These lawyers presumably have a growing conflict of interest as dozens of subpoenas shower down on Alaska. What is clear is that this scandal will not end on Tuesday and, if the results are close in favor of Democrat Mary Peltola, there could be a major fight over her taking her seat in the Senate. Here is the column:Marc Elias is back. The notorious Democratic lawyer who played a critical role in the 2016 Russia hoax is again in the news. His law firm has been identified by the New York Times as part of the expanding scandal involving Democratic effort to confuse voters in Alaska with a decoy candidate named Daniel J. Sullivan. For those familiar with Elias’s checkered history, this is a case of rounding up the usual suspects. The scandal involving Democratic candidate Mary Peltola has quickly snowballed this week. A New York Times blockbuster investigative report quotes former staff who claim she knew of a cynical effort by her own campaign and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee to confuse voters by recruiting and fielding a decoy “Dan Sullivan” candidate in the race against incumbent Sen. Daniel S. Sullivan (R-Alaska). State and federal investigations are now unfolding, with dozens of federal subpoenas raining down on Alaska. The effort to get voters to cast mistaken ballots is grossly unethical and, even in these rage-filled times, a uniquely disgraceful scheme. Peltola and the Democratic Party had long denied any involvement in the other Sullivan’s candidacy. So when the Times produced evidence that she allegedly knew, and that Democratic staffers and lawyers had been deeply involved from the beginning, many of us were surprised – that is, until the name “Marc Elias” emerged. Then it made more sense. The Elias Law Group was already in the news this election cycle for threatening reporters with defamation lawsuits if they kept asking questions about the health of former Gov. Roy Cooper, the Democratic nominee for Senate in North Carolina. Earlier, Elias caused a stir during an unsuccessful Democratic gerrymandering effort, raising the idea that Democratic leaders could abolish the entire Virginia government after courts blocked their attempted radical redistricting plan. The fact that figures such as Peltola and Cooper wanted to be associated with any law firm headed by Elias is itself an indictment of their judgment and standards.Despite his losses in cases such as National Republican Senatorial Committee v. Federal Election Commission, Elias is still a favorite of many on the left thanks to his aggression and partisan fervor. The controversies that make him notorious to many make him popular with others.Elias was the general counsel to the Clinton presidential campaign when it secretly funded the infamous Steele Dossier and pushed the false Alfa Bank conspiracy theory. (His fellow Perkins Coie partner, Michael Sussmann, was later indicted but acquitted for making a false statement to the FBI.)Clinton campaign officials lied to reporters during the 2016 campaign, denying any involvement in the Steele Dossier. Journalists discovered the truth after the election – that the Clinton campaign had hidden payments for the dossier as “legal fees” among the $5.6 million paid to Perkins Coie. New York Times reporter Ken Vogel said that when he tried to report the story, Elias “pushed back vigorously, saying ‘You (or your sources) are wrong.'”Times reporter Maggie Haberman later observed that “Folks involved in funding this lied about it, and with sanctimony, for a year.” The Federal Election Commission ultimately sanctioned the Clinton campaign for the subterfuge. While raising money as the self-proclaimed defenders of democracy, Elias’s group has been involved in gerrymandering and efforts criticized as seeking to invalidate Republican votes, including unsuccessful efforts to challenge Democratic electoral losses. In Maryland, Elias’s team supported another abusive gerrymandering scheme that a court found not only violated Maryland law but the state constitution’s equal protection, free speech and free elections clauses. The court found that the proposed map “subverts the will of those governed.”One media site accused Elias and his group of “making millions off gerrymandering efforts” while publicly denouncing Republican gerrymandering. In 2024, Elias’s legal team was also accused of pushing “to bar third-party presidential candidates – including Cornel West – from swing state ballots where they might siphon votes” from Democratic nominee Kamala Harris.Likewise, the New York Times reported that the Elias firm’s work “on behalf of a Soros-funded PAC in Texas … was opposed by a left-leaning election watchdog as undermining laws intended to limit the influence of major donors.”His group’s work for New York’s redistricting effort was ridiculed as not only ignoring the express will of the voters and also effectively negating Republicans’ votes. In 2024, the Chief Judge of the Western District of Wisconsin criticized the Elias Law Group for one of its challenges. Judge James Peterson (an Obama appointee) said that the argument “simply does not make any sense.”Now, Elias’s group is linked to the decoy scandal in Alaska, which allegedly aimed to make voters cast mistaken ballots. What distinguishes lawyers involved in this type of voter disruption is less their talent as their willingness. There are simply some things that most lawyers will not do.There is also a difference in how lawyers are treated in such controversies. It often seems that election controversies involving Republican lawyers are more likely to end with bar charges and disbarments. Take John Eastman, the former Trump lawyer disbarred in California after a state bar panel found that he had pushed unfounded legal theories and conspired to obstruct the electoral vote count on Jan. 6, 2021.Although I publicly disagreed with Eastman’s theories, I opposed the effort to disbar him as setting a dangerous precedent for lawyers seeking to advance novel or unpopular theories of recovery or liability. After all, lawyers on the left routinely advance dubious theories, including some that are more ideologically than legally driven. Such controversies rarely rise to the level of disbarment, especially when more appropriate sanctions are available, ranging from reprimands to fines.Eastman is currently asking the Supreme Court to overturn his disbarment. It is unlikely that Elias Law Group or Peltola’s lawyers will face similar disbarment efforts – nor should they, in my view, unless they were involved in criminal conduct. But the disparate treatment afforded to counsel in this country by party remains a growing concern. What draws a shower of bar complaints for Republican lawyers brings a windfall of clients for Democratic lawyers. The New York Times has produced sources alleging that lawyers for Peltola’s campaign were involved in this effort, even though they previously told a federal court that they “lack knowledge or information” and “deny any allegation about those purposes.” Such filings and statements could raise ethical or even criminal questions in investigations at both the state and federal levels.Meanwhile, though, tens of thousands of voters in Alaska have already cast ballots that included the decoy Sullivan candidate. This could result in a nasty fight in Congress if Peltola prevails in the vote count. And when it happens, that is where we will find Marc Elias in his element.Jonathan Turley is a law professor and the New York Times best-selling author of “Rage and the Republic: The Unfinished Story of the American Revolution.”
