Shocking Senate report details billions in health-care fraud lost to scammers and schemers

September 29, 2026 MMN Editor Filed Under: THE NEWS

A new Senate report highlights startling amounts of health care fraud, including a payment of almost $1 billion in taxpayer dollars to Russian fraudsters and hundreds of millions to others.
The report, which points to some of the most egregious cases out of a total of more than half a trillion in fraud, highlights more than $21 billion in bogus claims billed to the federal government. Of that, more than $3.1 billion in taxpayer money was actually paid out to these fraudsters.
“While some Americans will be fortunate enough to earn a few million dollars over a lifetime, Washington is literally making these scammers instant billionaires off the backs of the working class,” the report says. “Yet, you never hear socialists ranting about this unfair redistribution of wealth.”
Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, chairwoman of the Senate DOGE Caucus, shared the report with the Daily Signal.
“Socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders famously stated, ‘billionaires shouldn’t exist,’ and wants to tax them away, while government grift and graft is making billionaires out of riffraff,” the report says. “In fact, the $500 billion the Democrats’ proposed ‘billionaire tax’ would bring in isn’t even enough to pay the total cost of the $523 billion the government gives away to fraudsters every year.”
The report notes that fraudsters are getting away with more than $1.4 billion per day, citing a 2024 Government Accountability Office study.
“While Iowans are juggling rising health care costs, billion-dollar bandits are building criminal empires by stealing from government health care programs and using the proceeds to bankroll their mansions, luxury cars, and lavish lifestyles. Democrat socialists push higher taxes and socialized medicine, while turning a blind eye to the billions in fraud,” Ernst told the Daily Signal in a statement. “I’m calling out their twisted agenda that leave taxpayers footing the bill. Let’s put these scammers in the slammer and pass my Protecting American Taxpayers Act.”
The report says that more than $100 billion is “bilked every year from Medicare and Medicaid.” It says more than $100 billion in fraudulent unemployment insurance benefits was paid to scammers over three years, between 2020 and 2023, while $1 billion is ripped off annually from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or food stamps.
The report references what the Justice Department called “Operation Gold Rush,” a fraud case that involved 11 individuals charged with being members of a transnational criminal organization based in Russia that allegedly orchestrated a multibillion-dollar health care fraud. They submitted requests for reimbursement to Medicare for over $10.6 billion using the stolen identities of thousands of doctors and more than a million senior citizens, and managed to get $941 million.
The report also cites Herbert Kimble, charged with billing Medicare more than $1.2 billion for body braces pushed on hundreds of thousands of seniors by foreign call centers. Of that billing, more than $200 million was paid. Kimble was arrested in the Philippines days after making the FBI’s “Most Wanted Fraudster” list.
“When the socialists demand, ‘Medicare for All,’ apparently, they really mean it, even if that includes Russian mobsters and the FBI’s Most Wanted Fraudsters,” the report says.
The report identified Brett Blackman, CEO of a health care software company, who was convicted for billing federal programs over $1 billion for unneeded equipment, with more than $450 million paid. He was convicted in May.
Alexandra Gehrke and Jeffrey King were convicted of submitting $1 billion in fraudulent claims to Medicare; TRICARE, a health care program for U.S. service members; and CHAMPVA, a health care program for spouses and children of permanently disabled veterans, and other health care programs for unnecessary wound grafts. About $615 million of the bogus claims were paid.
Brian Rowan, a wound care sales executive, is charged in connection with a $1.2 billion scheme in which about $614 million was paid.

Another amusement park closes forever after four seasons

September 29, 2026 MMN Editor Filed Under: SUCCESS, The Street

The global theme and amusement park industry is projected to grow from approximately $71.5 billion USD in 2026 to $110.6 billion USD by 2033.

Still, individual parks can face pressures ranging from rising operating costs to heavy regional competition and snowballing corporate debt from repairs and renovations that keep rides appealing to visitors.

Theme park giant Six Flags closed six “underperforming” locations in its amusement and water park portfolio in 2026. Wild Waves Theme and Water Park in Washington State, Adventure Landing in North Carolina, and Fun Spot America in the Atlanta suburbs are also among the smaller parks that have shut down since the start of the year.

The latest name to join that list is Ryze Adventure Park in Missouri.

Standing out from more traditional amusement parks as an “aerial adventure park” with ziplines and elevated bike and ropes courses, the park was opened by locals Greg Hoffman and Tony Holt in 2021 after years of development based on a concept more popular in several European countries.

Ryze Adventure Park shuts down 4 years after opening

As first reported by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Ryze Adventure Park is now set to close after just four years in operation, as operating costs rose faster than the owners could build out a visitor base and reach profitability.

Built across four stories on a lot next to a former church, the adventure park was designed to offer more than 100 aerial challenges, such as an observation deck, swaying bridges, a zipline jungle gym, and a 50-foot free-fall tower.

Tickets started at $39 for adults, and the staff was made up primarily of several dozen seasonal workers during the summer months.

Ryze’s owners promoted it as having “something for everyone” — both thrill seekers and those who would come to the park with kids and spend their time walking around and seeing the views from the different observation decks.

Amid falling revenue, Hoffman and Holt had tried to seek external management help from Applied Adventure Consulting Co., a Colorado-based management firm behind other similar adventure parks.

But ultimately the business model set out at the time of Ryze’s launch anticipated it growing its revenue by 20% within five years. According to the owners, the adventure park saw its profits drop by more than 40%.

“A whole year of expenses without revenue”: Ryze Adventure Park owners on closure

“It kind of softly closed,” Hoffman described to a local outlet. “We had a whole year of expenses without revenue.”

The owners are still looking for a last-minute partner to step in and see potential in an adventure park in the St. Louis suburb. Despite the falling profits, the park quickly found a strong community of regional fans that would return summer after summer over the last five years.

Mamdani deflects Kimmel’s anti-Trump bait when pressed repeatedly on relationship with the president

September 29, 2026 MMN Editor Filed Under: THE NEWS

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani seemed to deflect late-night host Jimmy Kimmel’s questions about his relationship with President Donald Trump, as the mayor avoided bashing him and rejected the late-night host’s request to send him a selfie.”Did you guys hit it off immediately or is it something that you really went into thinking, like, ‘Okay, I need to have a relationship with the President of the United States and I think the best way to do it is to charm him?’ How did you do that and can you help me?” Kimmel asked Mamdani, calling his relationship with Trump “unexpected.”Mamdani responded, “Sorry brother.”The mayor told Kimmel he and the president had many disagreements, but agreed on how much they both love New York City.MAMDANI DESCRIBES TRUMP RELATIONSHIP AS ‘HONEST’ AND ‘DIRECT’ AMID RECENT BLOWOUT”And so, from that first meeting in November of last year, I was just thinking of, ‘How can we make this meeting not about us, but about New Yorkers? How can we spend that time talking about the things that could make life in the city that little bit easier?’ And that’s what it’s been whether we’ve met at the White House or at Gracie Mansion,” he said.Mamdani and the president met earlier this month at the mayor’s residence, Gracie Mansion, despite the major policy differences the two have.”The number one thing that we’ve been speaking about recently has been Sunnyside Yard, which is this idea for decades of building a platform over a rail yard and then building 12,000 homes. And so, in that moment, you know, that you zoomed in on, I’m just thinking about 12,000 homes, 30,000 jobs, largest housing development since the early 1970s,” Mamdani told Kimmel.TRUMP’S HOUSING CHIEF PAINTS A GRIM PICTURE FOR HOMEOWNERSHIP IN ONE MAJOR AMERICAN CITYKimmel asked, “When you text him about Sunnyside, are you sure he doesn’t think you’re texting him about eggs?”Mamdani said he was “pretty sure” and noted that the texts were pretty normal and didn’t resemble the president’s Truth Social posts.”Wow. You really have broken through with him,” Kimmel said. “I mean listen, you seem to be doing a great job in New York, we might need you to move to Washington just hang out at the Oval Office all day. Like if you texted him a selfie of us right now.”Mamdani laughed and shut it down.”I love you, but I love housing more,” Mamdani responded.Kimmel went on to ask if Mamdani would come be the mayor of Los Angeles at the end of the discussion.MAMDANI, LETITIA JAMES SUE TO BLOCK TRUMP ADMIN FROM REFUSING IMMIGRANTS OVER WELFARE STATUSThe White House did not immediately return Fox News Digital’s request for comment.Trump first met with the socialist mayor last November and said Mamdani could “surprise some conservative people” and declared, “The better he does, the happier I am.”Their last meeting, on Feb. 26 at the Oval Office, was notably cordial, with Mamdani seeking Trump’s support for an ambitious New York housing proposal despite their political differences.”The new communist mayor of New York City, I think he’s a nice guy, actually,” Trump said in his State of the Union address in February. “I speak to him a lot. Bad policy, but nice guy.”

New Ransom Note Surfaces Nearly Eight Months After Nancy Guthrie Vanished From Her Arizona Home

A disturbing new development has emerged in the baffling disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of NBC “Today” host Savannah Guthrie.
Nearly eight months after Nancy vanished from her Arizona home, authorities revealed Monday that investigators are examining a new possible ransom note connected to the case.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that its investigators and the FBI-led Guthrie Task Force were recently alerted to the communication and are now trying to determine whether it is legitimate, TheWrap first reported.
More from TheWrap:

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department addressed reports of a new ransom note in the Nancy Guthrie case Monday, sharing that they were “working to determine credibility” of the alleged missive.
“The PCSD/FBI Guthrie task force was recently made aware of a new possible ransom note in the Nancy Guthrie investigation,” a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office told TheWrap on Monday. “Investigators are also aware of social media comments being made regarding this note and are looking further into this and working to determine credibility.”
The investigators’ statement came hours after true-crime YouTuber Jonathan Lee Riche, known as JLR Investigates online, took to X and claimed that a “friend of Nancy Guthrie contacted authorities after receiving a bitcoin demand.”
Riche followed up later on Monday, writing on X while livestreaming on the app, “We are speaking with Lauren now. Friend of Nancy Guthrie. Who got a extortion bitcoin demand claiming Nancy is alive in Mexico. FBI are involved.”
We should note that while Riche describes himself as an “investigative reporter” on his social media platforms, he is not credentialed with any professional outlet.
This comes after a string of earlier communications, some treated as potentially serious, others dismissed as fakes, that have defined one of the most high-profile unsolved abductions in recent years.
The Gateway Pundit has covered this case from the beginning. In June, we reported on the second note that claimed Nancy “perished shortly after she was taken” from an alleged heart-related issue and was “buried in nature now.”
That note, sent to a Tucson TV station days after the Feb. 1 disappearance, adopted a different tone from the first demand.
In July, the sheriff’s department publicly released the full texts of the two February notes in hopes someone would recognize the writer’s distinctive wording.
The first, addressed directly to Savannah Guthrie, demanded $4 million in Bitcoin by Feb. 5 (rising to $6 million by Feb. 9) and included details only someone at the scene would know, a white smartwatch on the bedroom floor and a destroyed backyard floodlight.
It warned: “Your mother is aware of this and her life is in your hands.” The follow-up note expressed regret and said nothing the family could have done would have changed the outcome.
A California man later pleaded guilty to sending fake ransom demands to the family, as we reported. The real perpetrators remain unidentified.
Nancy Guthrie, mother of NBC “Today” co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, was last seen the night of Jan. 31 after family dropped her off following dinner.
Blood matching hers was found on the porch. Her phone, medications, and hearing aid were left behind.
Doorbell camera footage captured a masked man, described by the FBI as about 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-10, average build, wearing gloves and carrying an Ozark Trail backpack and a holster, tampering with the camera in the early hours of Feb. 1. No arrest has been made.
Savannah Guthrie has made repeated emotional public pleas. The family offered a $1 million reward. The FBI has offered up to $100,000. Tips have poured in. Searches have been conducted, including near the Mexico border. Human remains found in the desert in August were not hers.
According to Fox News reporting on the earlier notes, one profiler questioned whether the communications even matched the suspect’s behavior on camera.
Other notes sent to TMZ offered video of Nancy with the “main guy” in exchange for one Bitcoin and claimed knowledge of identities and a phone in a “secure location.” Some of those were treated skeptically by investigators.
Eight months later, an 84-year-old grandmother with a pacemaker and daily heart medication is still missing. A masked, armed stranger was caught on camera at her door. Blood was on the porch. Distinctive notes with inside details arrived almost immediately. And the case remains unsolved.
