Alaska voter ‘disgusted’ by reported ‘decoy Dan’ plot switches from Peltola to Sullivan

November 3, 2026 MMN Editor Filed Under: THE NEWS

As the Senate race in Alaska makes headlines over an alleged Democrat-linked election scheme, Fox News spoke with voters heading to the polls to see whether their decisions were changed, including one man who said he is voting for incumbent Republican Sen. Dan S. Sullivan, despite having previously considered voting for the Democratic Senate candidate, former Rep. Mary Peltola. The Senate race, which is a ranked-choice voting contest, has been the subject of significant national attention due to the inclusion of a candidate with nearly the same name as the incumbent GOP lawmaker. The male voter, who did not provide his name, explained that he “thought it was sketchy from the get-go.”A New York Times report published last week detailed the alleged scam that involved Democrats seeking to recruit Daniel J. Sullivan Jr. to run in the race against the incumbent Sen. Daniel S. Sullivan.”When The New York Times article came out, and I found out how that transpired, I was disgusted by the whole thing, so sleazy,” the voter noted.ELECTION DAY 2026: VOTERS CAST BALLOTS WITH CONTROL OF CONGRESS ON THE LINEA woman who was with the man in Alaska noted that he had “thought about voting for Mary Peltola.””I switched,” he said. The woman said she believes it is “unethical, and I don’t think [Peltola] should be elected.”The man agreed. They both confirmed they would be voting for Sen. That is all I have ever known about,” Peltola said. “I am not interested in tricking voters. I know I can beat Dan Sullivan.”Sen. Fulton County Scanner Failures Leave 1,069 Early Ballots Unread; Elections Director Seeks Board Approval Tonight for Rescan After Polls Close

November 3, 2026 MMN Editor Filed Under: THE NEWS

Fulton County Elections Director Nadine Williams has notified the Georgia Secretary of State that two ballot scanners failed during early voting, leaving 1,069 ballots unread on their original machines.
Williams is asking the county election board to approve a modified counting process at tonight’s 6:30 p.m. meeting.
In a November 3 memo, Williams detailed a power loss at one site that left a memory card unusable and a persistent paper-jam error at another.

According to the memo, the first failure occurred on October 21 at the Mechanicsville Library early-voting site, where a scanner lost power after 361 ballots had already been scanned.
After the machine restarted, it would no longer operate, and state voting systems staff advised against uploading its memory cards because the data could be corrupted.
Williams proposes rescanning all 361 paper ballots on a central scanner.
The second incident happened on October 26 at the Hugh C. Conley Recreation Center, where a scanner repeatedly displayed a paper-jam error even though staff found no apparent jam. She reports that 708 ballots were affected.
Fulton plans to transfer the original memory cards to another scanner to complete the closeout, with a full paper rescan of those 708 ballots only if the transfer fails.
If the board approves the plan, Williams estimates the work will begin between 7:00 and 7:30 p.m., after polls close.
Staff will announce the start in the public observation area at the Fulton County Election Hub & Operations Center, and the process will be visible to the public.
The Republican National Committee has already responded, stating it will station extra observers to monitor the tabulation of the affected ballots.

GEORGIA: The RNC is on it in Fulton County. We will have extra observers present to monitor the tabulation of ballots affected by the scanner issues.
SEE A PROBLEM? REPORT IT. Our team is on the ground and tracking concerns in real time
— RNC Election Integrity (@RNCVoteProtect) November 3, 2026

In a post on X, the RNC Election Integrity account wrote, “The RNC is on it in Fulton County. We will have extra observers present to monitor the tabulation of ballots affected by the scanner issues,” and directed people to report problems.
This Georgia County has a documented history of tabulation and documentation problems.
County officials have previously acknowledged failures to sign tabulator tapes covering hundreds of thousands of early votes in the 2020 election, and state investigations have examined double-scanning and batch-management issues during the recount.

Used-Car Prices Are Climbing Fastest for These 10 Vehicles

November 3, 2026 MMN Editor Filed Under: Money.com, SUCCESS

Used car prices are on the rise, and electric vehicles and hybrids are leading the charge. A new report from car shopping firm iSeeCars identified the 10 models that saw the largest price increases over the past year, with several electric vehicles making the list.
The firm’s analysis found that used prices are climbing primarily for fuel-efficient hybrids and electric vehicles, while gasoline-powered cars “experienced nearly flat prices” from September 2025 to September 2026. Overall, used EV prices increased 9.8% over the period, while used hybrid prices rose 4.9%.

A $10,000 investment 10 years ago would be worth over $30,000 today. It wasn’t a stock. See how investors are adding gold to their IRAs with Goldco’s free guide.

One possible factor is the cost of filling up. Electric vehicles can become more appealing to shoppers when gasoline prices are high, making them an alternative for drivers looking to reduce their fuel expenses. A similar trend emerged in 2022, when rising gas prices coincided with increased interest in electric vehicles.
The BMW X2 compact SUV topped iSeeCars’ list, with its average used price jumping 24.3% to $33,425 in September. The next four spots went to electrified vehicles:

the Tesla Model S, which rose 22.5% to $57,862
the Tesla Model X, up 18% to $61,309
the Lexus ES 300h, up 15.5% to $42,836
the Tesla Model 3, which climbed 15.4% to $28,931

The shift is particularly notable because used electric vehicles were less expensive than comparable gas-powered cars just a year ago. The average 1- to 5-year-old used EV now costs $32,533, or $579 more than the average used gasoline vehicle.
In September 2025, the opposite was true: Used gas-powered cars cost $2,227 more on average.
That change could make shopping for a used vehicle more complicated for consumers weighing the potential fuel savings of an EV against its purchase price. While electric vehicles may offer lower ongoing fuel costs, buyers also need to consider insurance, maintenance, charging access and potential depreciation when comparing ownership expenses.
“The results reveal a market where EVs are appreciating in average asking price much faster than other drivetrains, while also spending less time waiting for buyers,” Karl Brauer, executive analyst at iSeeCars, said in the report.
The findings suggest that demand for used electrified vehicles is strengthening, even as their prices climb. For shoppers, however, the recent increases mean that the savings associated with buying a used EV may not be as significant as they were a year ago.

It’s Been a Long Time Since Bonds Looked This Good

November 3, 2026 MMN Editor Filed Under: SUCCESS

Bond yields have been rising for years now, and that’s been tough on fixed-income investors. Here are the trailing 10-year annual returns of some leading bond indexes as of Oct. 31, 2026. In all but one case, bond investors lost money after inflation. While that’s been disappointing, it’s had a silver lining: Bonds’ risk/reward profile has greatly improved. To illustrate, here’s a chart in which I’ve plotted out the changes in the average monthly duration (a measure of interest rate sensitivity; that is, risk) and yield to maturity (that is, reward) of the iShares 7-10 Year Treasury ETF IEF.Yields were recently the highest they’ve been in a decade and, conversely, durations have drifted down from the heights they reached amid covid and its aftermath. (All else equal, bonds become less rate-sensitive the higher their yields in absolute terms, and vice versa.) That is, bonds offer far more reward and pose slightly less risk than they did 10 years ago. How has the relationship between potential upside and downside shifted over time? I’ve rendered that picture below using the iShares ETF’s average monthly durations and yields, assuming the upside represents the potential payoff from a 1% decline in rates at the time and the downside the penalty from a 1% rate rise. To put things in perspective, as of July 31, 2020, the ETF’s yield to maturity had shriveled to 0.47%, and its duration had ballooned to nearly 8.0 years. Given that, investors stood to earn as much as an 8.5% total return in the highly unlikely event yields fell another 100 basis points from there. But they’d have lost almost 7% if yields rose 1 percentage point. In other words, there was only a 1.6-percentage-point difference between reward (that is, the 8.5% potential upside) and risk (that is, the 6.9% potential loss).Contrast that with where things stood as of Oct. 31, 2026: The ETF’s yield to maturity was 4.94%, and its duration had shrunk to around 7.0 years. Thus, investors were poised to notch a nearly 12.2% total return if yields fell 1 percentage point compared with a potential 1.7% loss if yields rose 100 basis points. Meaning that the risk/reward has tilted much more in investors’ favor, with 10.5 percentage points separating potential upside (12.18%) and downside (negative 1.73%). While it helps that durations have come down, this is really a story of higher yields providing much more cushion, as my colleague Dan Lefkovitz recently explained. To illustrate, I’ve plotted the monthly potential upside and downside returns for the iShares ETF, broken down by the yield to maturity at the time. As yields rose, the risk/reward bent higher.More Where That Came FromHow does it look for other types and maturities of bonds? I used the average monthly durations, convexities, and yield to maturities of all funds in the six largest diversified or government-related fixed-income Morningstar Categories to derive the difference between the potential upside and downside in the same way I did for the iShares ETF mentioned above. Here’s a time-lapse of those differences.(The chart above only runs through Sept. 30, 2026, as many bond mutual funds hadn’t reported their portfolio holdings as of Oct. 31, 2026.)So, it’s easier to make out; here’s a compare-and-contrast of the starting and ending potential upside minus downside for each category. In nearly every case, rising yields and falling durations greatly improved the risk/reward trade-off investors face. Based on this, it’s hard not to conclude that bond-fund investors are being fairly compensated for the interest rate risk they court for the first time in a long time. CaveatsThat said, some important caveats apply to the preceding analysis:For one, I only factored in one risk—duration. I didn’t account for others like yield-curve risk (as duration assumes a parallel shift in rates across the curve), credit risk, or prepayment risk. Let’s say we get a recession, rates fall, but credit spreads widen. That’s not necessarily going to be a picnic for bond-fund investors, yet it’s not reflected above. (And let’s not overlook the fact that credit spreads are quite narrow by historical standards.)Also, if inflation takes off, far exceeding the expectations investors are pricing in, then the improved risk/reward could prove illusory. In such a scenario, investors might be able to scratch out a positive nominal return but end up underwater after inflation. (This, incidentally, is why I’d previously said Treasury Inflation-Protected Securities could be worth considering as a potential substitute for nominal Treasuries.)In addition, plump cash yields continue to beckon. Bonds certainly look less bad against cash than they did before, thanks to an upward-sloping yield curve that ensures bondholders are paid for the extra duration risk they court. But with the three-month Treasury bill recently yielding 4% and having virtually no downside, some might decide they’d rather keep the bat on their shoulder instead of taking a swing at potentially bigger returns in longer-tenor bonds. Finally, even though things are looking up for bonds, it doesn’t mean they should take the place of stocks. You could argue that bonds’ improved risk/reward means equities have to clear a higher hurdle rate than they have in years, with all the attendant questions. But if you have a long time horizon, diversified stocks are the more prudent choice, given the expectation they’ll generate a higher return than fixed income over decades.Switched OnHere are other things I’m reading, saying, watching, and listening to:A manager changes his mind about AIA thing that exists: An ETF that’s a 161-bagger yet has seen $9.1 billion in lifetime outflowsI chatted about investor outcomes, fund selection, and much more with Dr. Abhishek Gadre on his excellent “Money Matters MD” podcast“My First Day Seems So Much Older Than Me” by Jeffrey Eugenides“No Country for Old Men” rewatchAC/DC’s “Thunderstruck” on xylophone (and it rocks)Don’t Be a StrangerI love hearing from you. Stewart and Meyers Attack Stevens For Endorsing Rogers

November 3, 2026 MMN Editor Filed Under: Commentary Culture Investigations

Comedy Central’s Monday host of The Daily Show, Jon Stewart, and NBC’s Late Night host, Seth Meyers, both attacked Michigan Democratic Rep. Haley Stevens for endorsing Republican Mike Rogers in the state’s Senate race. In terms of the reasoning behind Stevens’s decision, Meyers completely omitted any talk about concerns over anti-Semitism, while Stewart tried to have it both ways.Stewart was up first and argued Stevens was letting her personal feelings override people’s need for health care, “But that says why you are mad at Abdul, but not why you’re for Rogers. Rogers is —  hold on, let me find the word — ‘a nightmare’— who is against every principle you’ve worked for your entire career. I mean, at least say you were visited by three ghosts who convinced you that it turns out people don’t need health insurance. This can’t really be about getting your feelings hurt.” Jon Stewart also attacks Haley Stevens, “: But that says why you are mad at Abdul, and not why you’re for Rogers. Rogers is — hold on, let me find the word — ‘a nightmare’ — who is against every principle you’ve worked for your entire career. I mean, at least say you were… pic.twitter.com/k8rqTGvfZY— Alex Christy (@alexchristy17) November 3, 2026 Later, Stewart addressed the fact that Stevens’s fiancé is Jewish, “But by the way, just because he’s Jewish, that doesn’t mean he’s pro-Israel or a Zionist. Judaism is not a monolith! Supporting Netanyahu and their campaign in Gaza doesn’t make you Jewish. Although, I will say this: Throwing away all of your personal and professional relationships over a personal perceived slight, that’s pretty Jewish! We do do that. If I may, that is pretty, pretty, pretty — that has big ‘Aunt who wasn’t asked to light a candle at bar mitzvah’ energy.”   He also continued to mock Stevens for endorsing Rogers, “You see, in Judaism, there is Reform, Conservative, Orthodox, and Curb Your Enthusiasm plotline. ‘You didn’t invite me to your party? You didn’t invite me to the party? Well, then I am for deportation! Deportation! I say deport! Deport!’”A Zionist is simply someone who believes Israel should exist. Different people put different adjectives in front of it, but that’s all it is. But after giving cover to the idea that anti-Zionism isn’t a form of anti-Semitism and mocking the possibility that Stevens decided to endorse Rogers over El-Sayed’s anti-Semitism, Stewart tried to have it both ways by suggesting the concerns about anti-Semitism are legitimate:Man, this split between Haley and Abdul, it raises all sorts of uncomfortable questions about the ability for one issue to split a nascent Democratic coalition. It even brings up this country’s relationship with Israel and what emphasis our leaders should be placing on their safety, and how to balance concerns for the tragedy for Palestinians with real concerns about anti-Semitism. These are real nuanced, complex issues. I wonder how our news media will discuss these issues?Stewart then moved on to mocking the media’s obsession with polling instead of the actual issue. However, later on NBC, Meyers introduced an extended version of the montage he played on Thursday, “But Democrats are especially aghast because after seeking the Democratic nomination and promising to stop Trump, Stevens is now joining him and endorsing one of the most nakedly racist campaigns in modern American history.” Meyers also bases Haley Stevens, “But Democrats are especially aghast because after seeking the Democratic nomination promising to stop Trump, Stevens is now joining him and endorsing one of the most nakedly racist campaigns in modern American history.”(2/4) pic.twitter.com/wkX82z5LgD— Alex Christy (@alexchristy17) November 3, 2026 After the montage concluded with Trump claiming El-Sayed should need to go through a metal detector before being allowed in the Senate, Meyers retorted, “That’s both incredibly racist and also impossible. You can’t put metal detectors in the Senate. Half of Mitch McConnell’s organs are titanium. ‘I’m sorry, that’s my new spleen.’ So that’s the campaign Stevens chose to endorse.”In non-Michigan news, Meyers earlier saw no big deal with Democratic shenanigans in Alaska, “Wait a second, so the Democrats scoured the state looking for guys named Dan Sullivan so they could recruit one of them as a spoiler candidate and siphon votes away from the Republican who is also named Dan Sullivan? Wow, I’m shocked. It pains me to say this, but I have to call balls and strikes. This is very [bleep] funny. I mean, [bleep] A. They finally did it. The Democrats finally did something as dirty as the Republicans.” Seth Meyers reacts to the Fake Dan Sullivan story by claiming, “It pains me to say this but I have to call balls and strikes. The difference is this time the Democrats are actually good at it. If anything, they were too good. When Republicans tried to do something dirty, their dip[bleep], no-neck lawyer accidentally holds a press conference at a landscaping company and then leaks hair dye like a Bic just exploded on his head.”The fact that Meyers can’t even mention the reason behind Stevens’s endorsement but finds dirty tricks in Alaska hilarious neatly sums up how the late night comedy shows have viewed this entire election season. Here are transcripts for the November 2 show:Comedy Central The Daily Show11/2/202611:08 PM ETJON STEWART: But that says why you are mad at Abdul, but not why you’re for Rogers. US Factory Orders Are Surging At Their Fastest Pace In Over 4 Years

Following mixed manufacturing survey data, expectations were for a sizable jump in US Factory Orders in September. The actual print was even better than expected, rising 1.9% MoM (+1.8% MoM exp). That was the third consecutive monthly gain and followed a 0.3% increase in August and lifted orders up over 10% YoY…Core Factory Orders were even more dramatic, up 1.3% MoM (almost triple the 0.5% MoM expected). That is the strongest annual growth in core factory orders since July 2022Transportation equipment (+4.6%) was the biggest durable-goods boost, led by a +28.3% surge in non-defense aircraft and parts (the usual volatile swing). This full report includes non-durable goods and confirms the earlier advance durable-goods reading (also +1.8%, led by transportation equipment) signaling that demand looks reasonably healthy across both durable and nondurable goods and fits the ongoing manufacturing expansion seen in the ISM data. The aircraft spike juiced the headline, but the underlying gain (ex-transportation) and the matching strength in nondurables suggest the improvement is more than just a one-off. This is consistent with firm capital-goods/equipment spending trends that should support growth. Overall, the data points to solid factory demand continuing into the fall.

11 kitchen tools for building better sandwiches, plus tips from a pro

November 3, 2026 MMN Editor Filed Under: THE NEWS

Today is National Sandwich Day, making it a good excuse to upgrade your desk lunch. We asked Gilli Rozynek, owner of New York City’s Brown Bag Sandwich Co., to share tips for building better sandwiches at home, along with the kitchen tools she uses to chop, toast, slice and store them.”One of the biggest mistakes people make is stacking a bunch of delicious ingredients together without thinking about how they’ll actually eat them,” Rozynek says. “You might get the meat in one bite, the lettuce in the next and the sauce at the end. That’s why we love chopping our sandwich ingredients.”This technique helps distribute each ingredient and condiment throughout the sandwich.Rozynek believes the best sandwiches combine richness, acidity, texture and freshness.”If you have something rich like cheese, mayo or fatty meat, you probably want something acidic to cut through it, like a pickle, cherry peppers, mustard or a vinaigrette,” she says.Bread is a key component of any sandwich, so it’s important to choose the right loaf.”Look for something that can stand up to the fillings without being so tough that everything gets pushed out when you take a bite,” Rozynek says.Shop expert-recommended essentials to elevate your next sandwich.Original price: $50A good serrated knife can make it easier to slice delicate tomato skin, bread and sandwich fillings without crushing them.Original price: $16A pizza cutter is one of Rozynek’s favorite tools at Brown Bag Sandwich Co.”We use it to chop ingredients together inside a bowl,” she says. “The rounded blade works with the shape of the bowl, making it easy to mix and chop ingredients without needing a large cutting surface.”Ask a chef for their favorite mayonnaise and you’ll get several answers, but Kewpie comes up often for its rich flavor and texture. Its high egg yolk content, along with MSG, gives it a distinctive taste.Spread condiments such as mayo, mustard and pesto with this wide, rounded blade from Zyliss. The 4-inch knife has a rubber handle and can also help you spread sticky toppings like peanut butter or goat cheese. Its sharp blade can halve a sandwich or trim the crusts.Original price: $50According to Rozynek, sandwich bread shouldn’t be an afterthought. “A little toasting can make a big difference, especially for hot sandwiches,” she says. This two-slice toaster lets you choose a preferred toast shade and bread type. Its touchscreen design also adds a modern touch to the countertop.Original price: $50If you like the original Hamilton Beach breakfast sandwich maker, this newer model offers a larger cooking surface for standard sandwich bread. It can prepare hot sandwiches with or without eggs in about five minutes.A cast-iron skillet can help create a crisp grilled cheese and handle recipes beyond sandwiches. With proper care, cast iron can last for decades. Use it for fried eggs, seared steak or cornbread, too.Make crustless sandwiches with this cutter and sealer. Add peanut butter, jelly and your preferred bread, then place the sandwich between the cutters and crimp it closed. You can freeze the sandwiches for a quick snack later. As a culinary school graduate who has used a version of this serrated knife for 20 years, I’ve found that it cuts through loaves of bread with minimal effort. Rozynek agrees: “You want to slice through a crusty hero or roll without crushing the bread. It’s especially helpful when cutting a fully assembled sandwich in half.” At $16, it’s an affordable addition to any knife block. These containers help prevent homemade sandwiches from getting smushed in your lunch bag. Each one has a secure locking lid and is safe for the top rack of the dishwasher. For more deals, visit www.foxnews.com/dealsFresh bread can make a sandwich feel more special, but baking a loaf from scratch may seem intimidating. This Hamilton Beach bread machine handles the kneading and baking for you. Add the ingredients, select a cycle and choose your preferred loaf size and crust setting. The machine then prepares a warm loaf for sandwiches and toast.
