Dollar General makes surprisingly affordable change

October 8, 2026 MMN Editor Filed Under: Uncategorized

Consumers today are feeling squeezed from multiple directions.

Food prices continue to rise, gasoline is getting more expensive, and even shoppers who have avoided making major changes to their spending are being forced to pay closer attention to where every dollar goes.

The latest Consumer Price Index data underscores the pressure. Overall consumer prices increased 3.4% over the 12 months through August, while food prices rose 2.7%.

Gasoline prices were an even bigger problem, jumping 3.9% in August alone and 27.4% from a year earlier.

That environment makes a seemingly small change from Dollar General particularly interesting.

Dollar General is expanding same-day delivery through Instacart while allowing customers to pay the same product prices online that they would pay in its stores.

The partnership initially covers about 7,000 Dollar General locations, with plans to reach roughly 20,000 stores this fall.

Dollar General sees delivery as more than convenience

Delivery models commonly include a per-item markup. That’s the cost of that convenience.

Dollar General clearly sees things differently.

The retailer has spent years building a footprint in rural and underserved communities, with more than 21,000 stores and roughly 75% of the U.S. population living within five miles of a location, as the company reported on its most recent earnings call.

That physical presence gives Dollar General an unusual advantage when it comes to fulfilling local delivery orders.

But the company isn’t treating delivery simply as a service for existing shoppers. Rather, it’s using it to attract new customers.

And the company is opting to avoid markups to maintain the value proposition that’s likely to win more people over.

During Dollar General’s most recent earnings call, CEO Todd Vasos said, “We estimate we have already seen more than 1 million new customers first engaged through our delivery and then become an in-store shopper at Dollar General.”

If that momentum continues, Dollar General could benefit financially even if it’s not charging extra for home delivery.

The real value is keeping customers loyal

Offering delivery is a great way for Dollar General to keep up with competitors like Target and Walmart.

But the company’s delivery expansion also protects its position as a convenient, low-cost neighborhood retailer.

The company said its delivery offerings are generating about 80% sales incrementality, meaning much of that business represents sales it might not otherwise capture.

Vasos put the opportunity even more clearly on the earnings call. “Our delivery platforms are also becoming a more meaningful sales driver as digitally engaged and delivery customers are more than twice as productive as our non-digitally engaged customer,” he said.

For Dollar General, removing product markups could mean giving up some revenue per delivery order. But the potential payoff is greater customer acquisition, larger basket sizes, and stronger loyalty.

For shoppers facing higher grocery and gasoline bills, meanwhile, the benefit is simpler.

Getting Dollar General prices without having to make the trip could be one of the few conveniences that doesn’t make an already strained household budget even tighter.

Nike made Jordans too easy to buy, and Bank of America noticed

October 8, 2026 MMN Editor Filed Under: Uncategorized

For years, a new Air Jordan release worked like a holiday. Sneaker fans set alarms, refreshed the app, and paid resale prices when they missed out.

That scarcity was the product. Lately, Nike has been rolling out so many retro pairs that the magic has worn off — and the company now admits it.

Nike (NKE) is still the biggest name in athletic footwear, with roughly 40% of the global market, according to Bank of America. It brought in about $46.4 billion in revenue in fiscal 2026, which ended in May.

Management insists the core of the business is healthy. “The Sport Offense is driving measurable progress across our performance business,” CEO Elliott Hill said in Nike’s fiscal first-quarter earnings release.

The rest of the house is another story. “Simply put we’ve been oversupplying our iconic retro product,” Hill said on the company’s earnings call.

“When consumers see the Jumpman, it should feel special. It should feel earned,” he added.

According to a Bank of America research report shared with me, the damage from that oversupply, and from China, will last longer than the bank expected just a week ago.

Nike guidance falls far short of Wall Street’s bar

Nike’s revenue fell 4% to $11.2 billion in the quarter ended Aug. 31, or 5% on a currency-neutral basis, the company reported Oct. 1. Nike Direct sales dropped 8%, and Converse sank 28%.

The outlook was worse.

“We currently expect revenues to decline in the high single digits range,” CFO Dave Denton said on the call, guiding to adjusted earnings of $1.15 to $1.35 a share for fiscal 2027.

That range sits well below the $1.67 consensus Bank of America cited from Visible Alpha. Shares fell about 9% in premarket trading Oct. 2 to roughly $32, the lowest since September 2013, Roic.ai reported, leaving the stock down about 45% this year.

Bank of America analyst Lorraine Hutchinson cut her price target to $24 from $30 and reiterated an Underperform rating in her report, titled “Another reset.” It was her second cut in about a week, after she downgraded Nike from Neutral with a $30 target on Sept. 25, 24/7 Wall St. reported.

“Despite another significant reduction to our estimates, we continue to see downside risk to the premium multiple until the timing of a revenue inflection becomes clearer,” wrote Hutchinson.

The new target sits about 32% below the stock’s $35.15 close before the report and values Nike at 16 times the bank’s fiscal 2028 earnings estimate. Hutchinson also cut her fiscal 2027 and 2028 earnings forecasts by 21% and 22%.

Jordan retros and China drag on sales

Sportswear made up about half of Nike’s first-quarter sales and declined at a low double-digit rate, while Jordan Brand, 13% of sales, fell in the mid-teens, Hutchinson wrote.

The bigger worry is what happens next with retailers. “Several higher-volume footwear styles sold through below expectations, leaving excess inventory and resulting in lower wholesale order books for the coming seasons,” wrote Hutchinson.

Hill acknowledged the same problem. “Looking ahead, that has impacted our future order books as we proactively work with our wholesale partners,” he said on the call.

China is a tougher fix. Retail sales of consumer goods there rose just 0.4% in August from a year earlier, according to official data reported by the Qatar News Agency.

Local rivals Anta Sports and Li Ning have also been winning over Chinese shoppers, XTB analysts noted after Nike’s previous quarter.

Nike’s own trend is getting worse. Greater China sales fell 9% in the year-ago quarter, Benzinga reported, compared with a 26% constant-currency drop this time, according to Bank of America.

“In the near-term, revenues and profitability in China will be impacted,” Hill said.

Given that backdrop, it’s easy to see why Hutchinson expects no quick rebound. “We expect the reset to take multiple seasons and weigh on both sales and profitability,” wrote Hutchinson.

She isn’t the only skeptic. Goldman Sachs trimmed its target to $30 from $38 with a Neutral rating, as we reported at TheStreet, and Morgan Stanley rates the stock Underweight with a $27 target, according to Roic.ai.

Bank of America pins the recovery on running shoes

There is a bright spot.

“If we were to exclude the reset in Greater China, Nike Performance would have been up low double digits in Q1,” Denton said.

“Running is up double digits again with consistent share gains,” Hill added.

Hutchinson agrees running is working, but she sees it as only a down payment.

“The eventual sales turn will depend on growing levels of newness to drive stronger customer interest,” wrote Hutchinson, who expects innovation to take center stage at Nike’s November investor day.

Much will likely depend, however, on whether Nike can fund that comeback without straining its payout. Bank of America projects $1.64 a share in dividends for fiscal 2027 against just $1.13 in earnings, which means Nike would pay out more than it earns.

The bank does model $2.8 billion in free cash flow that year, enough to cover roughly $2.4 billion in dividends. “The dividend remains a significant priority in our capital allocation strategy,” Denton said.

Nike is also leaning on a new cost program called Pace, which Bank of America said targets $2.5 billion in gross savings by fiscal 2031.

In my view, that’s the real test for income investors. A dividend yield near 5% looks generous, but it now rests on cost cuts that haven’t been delivered yet.

Hutchinson laid out the risk plainly for anyone tempted by the beaten-down stock.

“Earnings increasingly depend on gross margin expansion and cost control, leaving downside risk to estimates and the multiple if execution falls short,” wrote Hutchinson.

Walmart’s $550 6×4-foot resin storage shed with lockable double doors is 40% off

October 8, 2026 MMN Editor Filed Under: Uncategorized

TheStreet aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

Why we love this deal

With the cooler temperatures of autumn, it’s the perfect time to tackle final outdoor projects, like installing solar lighting, tending the flower beds, or sprucing up the yard. You’ll also want to address any patio furniture, gardening supplies, and grilling equipment you’ve accumulated over the past summer. Leaving these items out and exposed to the elements until warm weather returns is not the way to go. You should store them properly to ensure they’re in tip-top shape for next year. If you have limited garage space, an outdoor shed is the smartest selection for this task.

Storage sheds are typically a pricey investment, but during Walmart Deals, they’re more affordable. The Sylviera 6×4-Foot Resin Storage Shed is now available for under $330 with 40% off. This spacious size is large enough to fit an upright lawn mower, toolboxes, and a large set of shelving to organize your gear. Best of all, the shed comes with numerous features you’d expect from a much more expensive unit.

Why do shoppers love it?

This outdoor storage shed has just about everything you could want. Measuring 6 feet long by 4 feet wide with a height that reaches over 6.5 feet, this shed has an impressive storage capacity of 105 cubic feet. Because it’s so tall, most people can easily walk inside the roomy interior without hunching or bending down. For even more accessibility, the unit has double doors, so you can have a wider opening when putting bulky objects away, like pool rafts or plush patio furniture cushions. To keep your items secure, the door has a lockable handle and key for added protection.

Storage sheds can be dark and musty, but this one has improved the classic design. Each side of the shed has a window to let in the sunlight, so you can see everything without bringing a flashlight. There’s also a ventilation system, so you can have steady airflow that prevents moisture and mold from building up. For even more convenience, the storage shed is constructed with a double layer of recyclable polypropylene resin. This heavy-duty material is waterproof and resistant to fading, so it will continue to look good after several seasons in the sun and rain.

Details to know

Door type: Double doors.

Material: Resin.

Special features: Ventilation, windows, lockable doors.

Is assembly required?: Yes.

Another advantage of this storage shed is that it comes with a base. Most storage sheds do not have flooring, but by including this feature, the structure is sturdier and more level.

Class-Action Settlements to Claim This Fall: Amazon, Mastercard or Equifax May Owe You Money

October 8, 2026 MMN Editor Filed Under: Uncategorized

Submitting claims for class-action lawsuit settlements can be an easy way to pad your bank account. With well over $1 billion up for grabs this fall, there’s a good chance you might be eligible for funds from one or more cases.
However, before you make plans to spend your windfall, keep in mind that class-action settlements sometimes take months or years to pay out. Most of the settlements in this story are awaiting final approval from a judge, and these cases could still see appeals — either of which could delay the payout date or alter the amount you qualify for.
Also note that none of the companies below have acknowledged wrongdoing in these cases.

Here are a handful of major class-action settlements we’re tracking this fall.
National Association of Realtors
The National Association of Realtors and two dozen real estate brokerages have agreed to a $120 million settlement. The settlement was the result of a multiyear class-action lawsuit alleging the companies broke antitrust laws to artificially elevate brokers’ commissions.
Buyers who bought a home listed on a Multiple Listing Service (MLS) for which a commission was paid during the class period ending June 25 may be eligible to claim a share of the settlement. The class period depends on the state and the brokerage involved, but the window stretches at least six years everywhere in the country.
The deadline to claim the homebuyer antitrust settlement is Oct. 27. Class members can submit a claim form to receive their share at homebuyersettlement.com.
A final fairness court hearing is scheduled for Nov. 2. If the settlement is fully approved, payments will be issued over several years because the defendants agreed to make their contributions to the settlement fund in installments. Payments will vary depending on how many properties an individual purchased and the amount paid in commissions.
Generic drug manufacturers
Several generic drug manufacturers have agreed to pay out hundreds of millions of dollars after plaintiffs alleged that the companies conspired to fix prices, causing consumers to overpay.
The settlements could provide compensation if you purchased a drug from a list of medications including generic versions of Prozac, Flonase and Adderall between May 1, 2009, and Dec. 31, 2019.
Sun Pharmaceutical Industries and Taro Pharmaceuticals agreed to settle for $200 million, while Sandoz and Fougera agreed to settle for $275 million. Payment amounts will depend on the number of claimants and the final amount of money available to class members after fees and other expenses are paid.
Litigation against other manufacturers is also ongoing. The website to submit claims for these settlements before the Nov. 9 deadline is genericdrugsendpayersettlement.com.
CVS
Millions of CVS shoppers are eligible to claim payouts of up to $5 or $10 from a $20.5 million class-action settlement in a data privacy case.
The settlement class includes everyone who went on the CVS website and mobile app before July 27, according to the settlement website.
The up to $10 payouts are reserved for customers with documentation, such as “browser search history, screenshots showing dates, and/or email receipts of online purchases,” according to the settlement website. The up to $5 amount is the no-proof payout.
The deadline to submit your claim is Nov. 16. Visit cvsdigitalprivacysettlement.com.
Amazon
Customers who returned an item to Amazon and were recharged after being issued a refund — or who never received the refund they were owed — may be eligible for a share of a $309.5 million class-action settlement. A judge reportedly granted preliminary approval for the settlement on Aug. 18; a final approval hearing is set for March.
You must have purchased your item (that you later returned or requested a refund for) between Sept. 5, 2017, and Feb. 12. The settlement covers physical items bought on Amazon, so digital purchases like e-books would not count.
Some class members will receive payments automatically and have 105 days from the court’s final approval to select a payment method. Other class members have a Dec. 1 deadline to submit claim forms to receive a payout, generally covering the unpaid transaction amounts plus any interest. More information is available at returnsettlement.com.
Apple
In May, Apple reached a $250 million settlement in a case plaintiffs’ lawyers dubbed “the largest false advertising settlement in history.” The case centered around delays with the rollout of Apple Intelligence and allegations that Apple’s heavily-promoted AI features iPhones fell far short of promised capabilities.
About 37 million devices are covered under the settlement, which includes iPhone 16 models and certain iPhone 15 models purchased in the U.S. between June 10, 2024, and March 29, 2025.
The settlement will provide payments of up to $95 per device. The deadline to claim a share of the settlement is Dec. 21. Learn more at smartphoneaisettlement.com.
Equifax
Preliminary approval was reportedly granted in August for a $100 million settlement with Equifax in a case alleging that the credit reporting bureau provided lenders with incorrect information about millions of consumers during a three-week period in March and April 2022 following a computer system coding error.
If a lender pulled your credit report because you tried to get a loan, service or insurance during that period, you might be eligible for a payout of between $95 and $280 per person, according to estimates. The settlement website is equifaxfaircreditreportingsettlement.com. The deadline is Dec. 28.
Property managers using RealPage
A group of property management companies that used RealPage software agreed to a $359.9 million settlement after a lawsuit accused them of inflating rents with the pricing tools. There’s a fairness hearing scheduled for Oct. 15 in Tennessee.
People who rented an apartment from a landlord that used RealPage software between Oct. 18, 2018, and Nov. 21, 2025, may be eligible. Payment amounts are currently unknown.
A lookup tool on the settlement website lets users enter current and past addresses to check eligibility. The claim deadline is Jan. 29. Find more information at realpagerentalsettlement.com.
Visa and Mastercard
Consumers who paid ATM fees could be owed money from Visa and Mastercard in a $167.5 million price-fixing settlement.
The plaintiffs argued that agreements between the card networks and operators of some independent ATMs broke antitrust laws by charging users unfair fees.
The settlement class includes consumers who used independent ATMs — that is, ATMs in locations other than banks and “not owned by Visa, Mastercard, or any bank or other financial institution,” as per the settlement website — and incurred a surcharge (that wasn’t later reimbursed) between Oct. 24, 2007 and Aug. 14. Payment amounts have not yet been decided.
The deadline to submit a claim is Feb. 10, 2027; a hearing on whether to approve the settlement is scheduled a week later. For more details, visit the settlement website at nonbankatmsurchargesettlement.com.
