Polish president turns plane around after ‘coup’ at nation’s top court

While en route to Senegal, Poland’s President Karol Nawrocki turned his plane around and returned home after police entered Poland’s top court, the Constitutional Tribunal, and the tribunal’s president was suspended.”At such a moment, the President must be in Poland,” Nawrocki posted on X. “I’m interrupting my flight to Senegal. I’m returning.”Police say they secured the Tribunal after dozens of protesters gathered to demonstrate against what they called the wrongful suspension of the top court’s president by the current pro-European government. Police said there were also dangerous objects thrown at officers outside the building. Some protesters outside the court were seen praying, while others held posters reading “Tusk — a symbol of anti-Polish sentiment,” “Down with the commies and Tusk’s regime,” and “Stop destroying the state.”Poland’s top judicial bodies, including the Constitutional Tribunal, have been a major bone of contention between the current pro-European government, led by Prime Minister Donald Tusk, and the main opposition party, national-conservative Law and Justice (PiS), which ruled the country from 2015 to 2023. Critics accuse the PiS of imposing political control over key judicial institutions, with some reforms having led the EU to impose fines on Poland.NATO ALLY PUSHES ‘FORT TRUMP’ US MILITARY BASE AS RUSSIAN HELICOPTER PENETRATES AIRSPACENawrocki, an ally of the PiS party, refused to swear in three of six judges nominated by parliament earlier this year. Constitutional Tribunal president Bogdan Święczkowski, who was appointed by the PiS government after also serving as a deputy justice minister, declined to allow judges elected by the current parliamentary majority to assume their duties. According to the tribunal’s website, Święczkowski was suspended Friday.”Restoring the rule of law is our duty,” said Tusk, who returned to power in 2023 with a promise to restore the judiciary’s independence. He posted to X, “After years of PiS-led lawlessness, this is a difficult process, sometimes painful, and it requires decisive action. There is no other way.” Since taking power, Tusk’s pro-European government’s efforts have been vetoed by two successive presidents aligned with PiS, including Nawrocki.HUNGARY AND POLAND DEFEND TOUGH MIGRATION POLICIES AS FRANCE REELS FROM VIOLENT UNRESTFormer Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, a former PiS member whose Rozwój Plus coalition is positioning itself as an alternative to Tusk’s government ahead of next November’s parliamentary elections, also took to X to denounce “the forceful takeover of the Constitutional Tribunal.””Justice cannot be achieved through violence,” Morawiecki said, adding that “Tusk will stop at nothing to cling to power… We do not consent to Belarusian methods in Poland!” “It’s true: a coup d’état is underway,” former PiS Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro wrote on X. “If someone were to forcibly break into the Prime Minister’s Office and take it over, we would all know what to call it… This is a blatant, criminal attack on the constitutional order… That is why I call for resistance that will be loud, firm, solidary and fearless.”Nawrocki was traveling to Senegal at the invitation of Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye for a visit Nawrocki’s office said was focused on bilateral relations, economic cooperation, and diplomacy. He was also scheduled to attend the opening ceremony of the 2026 Summer Youth Olympic Games in Dakar on Saturday. The Associated Press and Reuters contributed to this report.

Florida Woman Arrested After Threatening to Shoot Trump at Daytona Beach Rally

21-year-old Allison Albro
A woman has been arrested ahead of President Trump’s rally in Daytona Beach, Florida, for threatening to shoot President Trump on Thursday night.
President Trump is en route to Daytona Beach to speak at a midterm rally tonight at 7 pm ET.
Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood identified the suspect as 21-year-old Allison Albro in an X post this morning.
“Going to the trump rally in my city tmr so I can shoot him with my Glock!” she wrote on social media, according to a screenshot shared by Chitwood.
“Wish me luck guys !!”
The Sheriff also shared a photo of her mugshot, where she has mascara running down her face.
“She said she was joking with this post, she doesn’t have access to a Glock or any other weapon, and she would never hurt anyone. Today she’s sitting in jail on charges of written threats to kill and unlawful use of a communications device,” Chitwood wrote, announcing the arrest on X this morning:
We are not going to tolerate threats to assassinate the president. Allison Albro, 21, Daytona Beach, is learning that the hard way. She posted this last night and got a visit from the @VolusiaSheriff Domestic Security Unit and the @SecretService.
She said she was joking with this post, she doesn’t have access to a Glock or any other weapon, and she would never hurt anyone. Today she’s sitting in jail on charges of written threats to kill and unlawful use of a communications device. I would strongly advise anyone else thinking of posting a “joke” along these lines to think twice. VSO continues to work hand in hand with the Secret Service, FBI and all our law enforcement partners to ensure this presidential visit to Daytona Beach is a safe event for all who attend, and for our whole community.

Albro is reportedly being held without bond.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
This comes amid a growing wave of threats against President Trump and his supporters.
Another deranged leftist was also arrested for threatening to shoot President Trump during a rally in Wichita, Kansas, last week.
And liberals are still mocking the death of Charlie Kirk and inciting violence against conservatives on college campuses. Recently, a University of Texas student showed up at a Turning Point event and read a poem celebrating Charlie Kirk’s death. ANTIFA at the University of Oregon also showed up at a Turning Point event with a sign that read “F-ck him right in the neck hole,” a reference to Kirk’s death.
Then, on Thursday, a man inside Trump’s midterm rally in Rock Hill, South Carolina, appeared to call for a “massacre” of Trump supporters and said he was there to witness it.

A Soggy Paper Straw Is Worse For The Environment Than A Plastic One; Study Finds

Authored by Bryan Hyde via American Greatness,A South Korean government study has found that paper straws carry a significantly heavier environmental and manufacturing toll than traditional plastic ones. The Daily Wire reports that a team of researchers from South Korea recently tested four different types of straws, including paper, plastic, biodegradable plastic, and sugarcane-based (bio-based polyethylene), across 16 categories.Conventional plastic straws surprisingly outperformed the alternatives, achieving the lowest environmental impact in 10 out of 16 categories, including climate change indicators and greenhouse gas emissions. The findings challenge the widespread assumption that swapping single-use plastics for paper automatically benefits the planet.Paper straw: “I’m saving the planet.”Korea’s environment ministry study: 6.33x plastic’s carcinogenic impact over its life cycle, 2x acidification.Paper straw, 3 sips in: also dissolving.Researchers’ real fix: no straw unless you ask. pic.twitter.com/83LNOcfeD9— Jiasen 森 🍵 (@JiasenL) October 27, 2026
According to the study by the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment, paper straws scored more than six times higher than their plastic rival on the study’s measure of carcinogenic impact. The study also found paper straws have more than two times the impact on environmental acidity, meaning they might be contributing to pollution by making soil and water more acidic, potentially harming plants, animals, and ecosystems.Conventional plastic straws unexpectedly outperformed the alternatives, achieving the lowest environmental impact in 10 out of 16 categories, including climate change indicators and greenhouse gas emissions.Despite being made of paper, single-use paper straws are not recyclable as their small size allows them to fall through sorting machinery.Researchers reported that paper straws are also frequently contaminated with liquid, chemical adhesives, and synthetic coatings used to prevent them from becoming immediately soggy, according to The Daily Wire.Sugarcane-based straws received the worst results, with 16.18 times the human carcinogenic impact, 5.9 times the acidification impact, and had the largest impact in 10 of the categories.Researchers said that after interviewing over 1,000 people, 87.5 percent of them preferred plastic straws, and roughly 54 percent said they supported straws only when asked for them.Rather than continuing to mandate ineffective substitute materials, South Korean policymakers and researchers recommend governments shift toward substantive reduction policies.Their ultimate suggestion is to skip single-use straws entirely or implement “ask-only” policies at businesses, nudging consumers toward reusable options like stainless steel or glass.

Russia’s international hockey ban lifted, prompting backlash from IIHF, other countries: ‘Incomprehensible’

October 30, 2026 MMN Editor Filed Under: THE NEWS

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled on Friday that Russian teams can compete in next year’s men’s and women’s world championships, overturning the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF)’s decisions to exclude them from its competitions. The IIHF has excluded Russia, which has won five IIHF world titles as an independent nation, from most international ice hockey competitions since 2022 following the country’s invasion of Ukraine.Russia did not compete in Olympic hockey earlier this year, the first since 2014 which had NHL players, nor was it included in the NHL’s 4 Nations Face-Off. Russia invaded Ukraine on Feb. 24, 2022, four days after Olympic competition ended that year.CLICK HERE FOR MORE OUTKICK SPORTS COVERAGEThe decision was not met with a warm reception from the IIHF and several other countries, including Canada, which will host the World Junior Championships later this year.”Canada maintains, as it has since 2022, that Russia should not be represented in international sport competitions while Russia’s illegal and unjustifiable full-scale invasion against Ukraine continues,” Canada’s Secretary of State for sport, Adam van Koeverden, said, via The Athletic. “Canada will maintain restrictions on the participation of Russian athletes at events hosted in Canada that receive funding from the Government of Canada and explore further options to ensure that the Russian government is held accountable.””The IIHF disagrees with this aspect of the ruling and maintains that its decisions were necessary to protect the safety and security of all participants and safeguard the integrity of its competitions,” ‌the federation said.REPUBLICAN CONGRESSMAN PRESSES NHL OVER ALEX OVECHKIN’S APPEARANCE IN PUTIN PARTY CAMPAIGN ADIn a brief statement, CAS cited a lack of sufficient evidence to support the IIHF’s security concerns. Russia’s sports minister, Mikhail Degtyarev, told state television channel Vesti that “discrimination in hockey has been brought to an end,” and “this place rightfully belongs to us.”Ukraine’s ice hockey federation denounced the ruling while respecting the authority of the CAS.”We wish to express deep outrage at this decision, taken amid a full-scale war. The threats that were the reason for suspending Russian teams in 2022 have not disappeared. On the contrary, they have only intensified,” the federation said on its website.”We believe that the safety of participants and the integrity of international sport cannot be considered separately from the realities of the war that Russia continues to wage against Ukraine.”Other countries to oppose the decision include Germany, Finland, Czechia, Sweden and Austria. The first tournament to be affected by the change will be the World Juniors, and Germany will host the World Championships next year.Notable NHL players include Alex Ovechkin, Nikita Kucherov, Kirill Kaprizov, Andrei Svechnikov and Artemi Panarin, among others.Reuters and The Associated Press contributed to this report.
